  • that is the focus of silence

  • That lens is perfect. But stop doing that shit or you will have a problem. Just take pictures. Stop worrying about noises. You're slamming the focus from end to end. Not good. Go shoot and enjoy. It's a great lens.

  • Turn off the Vib mode and try again.. My 70-200mm is quiet as like cat feet, but 105mm macro G does made some sound but if i turn off Vib mode then it get quiet too.

  • my 70-200 worse than that, the AF so slowly...

  • Wow you have a blue edition and that is noisy as hell :)

  • THAT IS NORMAL

  • Mate, that's fucking quite... Go by yourself a Tamron 70-200mm and tell me if yours makes a noise.

  • Фотодрочер - неудачник. =3

  • may I ask you was the VR on. I would assume it was not on. I used a 70-200 and VR kinda make a bit of noise I was not used to, so I don't know if it is normal or what.. thanks.

  • sound good for me! :)

  • try put something in front of the lens....

  • Sounds perfectly normal.

  • I would trade my Canon EOS 40D + 17-40mm f4 for a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 any time! (=

  • yeah canon users are jealous, haha... the color depth of nikon rocks so bad...

  • @kivexx Well. What does Canon do better? Video? Oh sure, I care SO much about video when im buying a digital SLR. Dude, wtf. Colordepth, dynamic range, ISO-performance. Nikon > Canon. :) Doesnt the D7000 sensor piss on your 550/600/60 and 7D sensor? Oh yes it does. Go and make up rubbish about another brand in a different place, like Fritzl's cellar maybe?

  • canon users are jealous, thats it :P

  • Yeep! go for canon!

  • This lens sounds rubbish to me. Switch to Canon where you'll be fully satisfied. Canon a brand that can be trusted and a great camera!!!

  • lol.

  • buy canon !

  • @sweethouze28

    It's fine....

Infact the canon OS is completely silent.......

and the AF is the same.....

  • Nikon's G's are completely silent too. This isn't a G.

  • @xjoncamposx Yeah because both have SWM focusing motor, 70-200mm was the first one with it

  • @xjoncamposx awks because it actually is a G lens...

  • Um.. well the focusing sounds like focusing, but if that static-y sound is from the lens and not the camera then maybe you should send it in to Nikon.

Seriously though... that's my dream lens.

  • sounds trashed! just bin it !

  • *sarcastically speaking* its broken, send it to me, i like broken crap :D

  • Thats a wicked fast AF

  • Sounds aproximately to the decibels produce by the human heart. Better send this lens to me. It is so LOud and annoying!

Seriously, please tell me where you found a baby blue Nikon lens.

  • its just the lighting that's coming off of the lens..still the same exact 70-200vr

  • omg... lol you got problems.... -.- tzzzzzzzz

  • You can give it to me if it's too noisy for you :p

  • I second that :P

  • When you have to say 'put the volume way up' that means its not very loud. I'm pretty sure that's normal because my 55-200mm is way louder. good luck with the new lens!

  • completely normal, don't worry, my lens does exactly the same sound

  • Completely Normal!

  • damned... AF very fast...

  • normal for me

  • thats perfectly fine, i love my 70-200 2,8

  • normal ;)

  • That's fairly quiet really. And fast. So I guess it's better than normal.

  • yeap!!, relax it is normal!

Now just do like the rest of us...Enjoy !!

  • I was thinking of buying the 80-200 AF-D but that's freek'n fast!

Anyway, I heard Canon's version is not as sharp but don't have the annoying corner issues this one has. That's what I heard.

  • Journalists and Sports Photographers don't care about the corners being soft. All important details/subjects are usually fill the middle of the frame. Softer corners, especially at widest aperture actually bring more attention to the subject in the middle.

  • no way that is soo fast it is way faster tha my nikon 18-200vr! is this the right speed?

  • totally normal. enjoy the lens, it's one of the best!

  • Assuming the buzz is due to ambient noise, the sound 70-200 does sound like that. The slight knock is heard when the focusing elements hit their limits.

  • soooo fast!

  • unfortunately for you this nikon lens completely trumps the canon equivalent in sharpness and build quality. i cant see how that focus is 'slow' - faster than most that i have seen

  • that trumps canons in build quality and sharpness? not even close.

  • You just shot yourself in the foot with that retarded comment.

  • as someone who's used both, they're the same. but CaNikon's 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses don't focus nearly as fast as their 300mm f/2.8 USM or AF-S lenses.

  • I think it's very same as the Canon version's. Just testet my cheapoo 70-200 F/4 L and it couldn't be a smaller difference in speed, though my lens go to 1.2 meters instead of 1.5:) But the difference is small however...

  • I still love my 70-200 F/2.8 I couldnt imagine not having that extra stop of light. I also find canon lens to be at there sharpest if you stop down 2 stops from wide open which would be 5.6 for the F/2.8 and f/8 for the F/4.

  • O sorry, I meant that the autofocus speed is the same. Ofcourse I would prefer a 2.8 if I could afford it. But no man:), you should use all these 70-200 wide open. The Canon version of the 70-200 F/4 is slightly sharper then the 2.8 at F/4, but sure they are getting a bit sharper at 5.6 but, you lose a stop of light, and luminous intensity is what you pay for sort of...

    Happy shooting...

  • DAMN that is fast focusing.

  • Perfectly normal, it's the silent wave motor moving the lens elements, the click is the VR units at work.

  • I own this lens and to my knowledge thats normal. mine does the same thing and I agree with whoever said above about it more than likely being the elements coming to the end of the focus range.

  • sounds good to me steve, i think its normal!

  • its normal....

  • That sounds normal to me, i think it is just the elements coming into contact with the end of the focus range

  • Wha? That was it FOCUSING??? Wow, that was silent.

  • Sounds perfect to me.. beautiful :)

  • Sounds like sweet music to my ears.. mine also has teh same sound and never thought anything of it

  • Doesn't seem to be a problem.

SWM motor sounds okay. On mine the VR makes more notable sound.
