This seems to make me think that the Taliban is not as united as people make them out to be. Divide-and-rule and cementing factional alliances as well as "rehabilitating" the Taliban\Warlord power dynamics appears to be in the best interests of Obama's Af-Pak policy.
Pepe does his best to present such an insanely complicated picture, but his claim that the US/NATO strategy is to work with & rehabilitate the Taliban, and to be seen as a "pacifier power" is hard to take seriously, given that NATO forces are actually at war with the Taliban as we speak.
The Taliban will become pacified once the rebel leaders are weakened by NATO, and when Abdullah Abdullah (or Karzai if lucky) maintains strong Warlord backing followed by a proxy-Pakistani business and military dealings with certain elements of the Taliban through people like Qazi Hussain Ahmad. There are of course lots of other complex go-betweens and proxies that will be required but its essentially divide-and-rule tactics.
as afghan we all know US and Nato is not here to help and rebuild the country .
they have rubbish plan in region BUt afghanistan is thier pitch they can play in here to score their goals.
i remember 10 years back talaban had fighter jets, tanks, pakistany army BUT they were not able to fight with Ahmad Shah Masoud NOW US army Nato all this shit they can not finish taliban????? it is funny,
Excellent video. This is real fucking journalism. Not the bullshit you see in the New York Times, Fox News, MSNBC, etc. This is REAL FUCKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!
There have been three rough phases in the Afghan war
1. 2001: Kill Osama Bin Laden
2. 2002-2008: Nation building by Bush
3. 2009-?: Nation building by Obama
The US stumbled into a guerrilla war because the consequences of the first phase were not thought through. If the Taliban were displaced, who would rule Afghanistan? Did the US want to set up a failed state in the region?
I believe Pepe gives the US government under Bush too much credit - he stumbled into the war.
Actually the goal of the U.S. was NOT to capture Osama Bin Laden and that was never really their intention. It's just pure imperialism on the U.S.'s part, nothing else.
They are invaders and occupiers and should leave and pay reparations.
so your saying that the US doesnt deserve the chance to capture someone who lead a terrorist attack on innocents killing thousands... i think you need to open your eyes Bin Laden is/was crazy and despite my oposition to the continued war in iraq and afghanistan Bin Laden definetly needed to be stoped
There is no proof whatsoever of bin laden having done that, thats why the FBI never actually charged him with anything- because by their own admission, there was no evidence. Besides anyone with even half a brain can see 9/11 was an inside job, and those buildings were imploded.
Yeah dude its all a conspiracy theory. I suppose all those people who came out and said they believe its an inside job are also all conspiracy theorists- including former government and CIA officials, the italian head of intelligence, engineers, scientists, and even the 9/11 families who call for a new investigation because they admit the governments story is deeply flawed... oh and its a conspiracy theory thats why the FBI said they wouldnt charge OBL because they didnt have any evidence?
there is indeed no proof, except for the famous video where he admits involvement, but the authenticity of that video is questionable. Why don't you take a look at the other side, before labeling them conspiracy theorists. By the way. Ever heard of the gulf of Tonkin incident? I'm sure some people also called the people who know what happened conspiracy theorists, right up until Robert McNamara admitted himself that it was a scam, on two occasions. Watch the Real News video about this, perhaps
I never said that kwillyou22. They have every right to get and capture Osama Bin Laden and put him to trial but that was NEVER their intention. In fact right after 9-11, the Taliban did say that they would hand over Bin Laden to the U.S. only if the U.S. showed evidence that he was responsible. There was plenty of evidence and the U.S. could have handed it over but they didn't because they only wanted to invade the country. Also don't listen to the conspiracy nuts like MuslimGhost.
"considered best US scholar" perhaps because he tells them what they want to hear? If taliban only controls 10%, how come its still there? they cant get rid of it, and 10% doesnt exactly spell popular. All this makes far more sense than "fight for freedom and democracy" or whatever the hell those morons choose to call murdering innocent people.
Don't believed so much what this false Pepe Escobar says. Observer that his guy not only use a false name but he also analyze ONLY with speculations and conspiracy theories made by his own!!! This man is a manipulator!!!
nato and the american forces only control a few major towns like kabul and few others but most of the rest of the afghanistan is controlled by the talibans.
Prof. Juan Cole is hardly Fox News. See his July 31, 2009 Antiwar Radio interview on YouTube where he makes the statement. Prof. Cole is considered one of the best U.S. scholars on the Muslim world.
The USA is at war in Afghanistan and Pakistan, these two countries border both Iran and China ...
hmmmmm.
I think we are fighting to prevent Iran from becoming a Global power. Iran is not playing the game according to the rules as outlined by the West and hence are on the rogue State list.
~Yeah, Karzai is NWO Sellout to the Dope Show in Afghanistan who now produce 93% of World's Opium supply and now all over high synthesis "China White" has hit the Streets. Karzai/Abdullah gave a Head to get Ahead clearly sucking up to Criminal "Elites" in the USA/UK/Israel~

There is little to gain in Afghanistan. It is going to cost the US more in dollars than it would make trading with Afghanistan.
