  • As Japan has the katana, does Russia have a traditional sword?

  • @grittygreenhorn yes they have it's called "shashka". But it originated in South Russia (Caucasus) among Caucasian peoples like Cherkess. A lot of what is called Cossack culture even the clothing originated from these mountainous Caucasian tribes. But As Cossacks predominantly lived in the south it is also their culture and heritage. But yes "shashka" is the Russian national sword. Used officially by the royal guard etc...

  • @grittygreenhorn ,,Shashka,,its cossack sword,its very similar to katana

  • @SlavaSvarogu It is not similar... it has different technic of how it is made, it is different in dimensions and it is totally different in usage... Both are very sharp, but that's it in similarity.

  • @payomagic yes, technic and philosofy is not same, but blade its very similar
