P51 looks to be a copy of Yak-3. ;-) You take Yak-3 with the weight (of empty plane) 2.1 tons, add to it 1.4 tons of shit and you'll get a P-51 with the weight (of empty plane) 3.5 tons. ;-)
The Yak 3 looks to be a copy of the P-51 Mustang. It is quite likely the U.S. gave the Russians the blue prints to manufacture and deploy against the Germans.
@tuunee1 it depends, the planes were made for different purposes. The yak3 was designed as a pure air superiority fighter that performs best below 15000 ft. The p51 was designed as a high altitude bomber escort fighter, so fuel capacity alone made it notably heavier than the yak. It probably could not out turn the yak, but it was about 30 mph faster so hit and run or boom zoom attacks are very possible. All in all, it comes down to the pilot.
good informative video. i had heard, post war the yak 9 had outperformed almost all aircraft in WWII. I fly an rc yak 9 powered by an 1100cc twin cylinder petrol engine. my yak 9 outflies my friends rc aircraft of the same engine down low. but up high its a little sluggish. much the same as the original scale. now i know why. Thanks for the info :-)
Yaк-3 Surpassed also Me-109 and FW-190 on all to characteristics of speed of manoeuvrability of speed of the ascent, the first squadron of Jak-3 of the Air Forces of the USSR has brought down 28 German planes having lost only 2 so if you do not know that never speak about that about what you do not understand in general/
@JasonZarifis: The Soviet Klimov (at least the later PF2/3) roughly matched the Allison 1710 in this bird, but I really don't think that it's 500mph in level flight as that approaches the Rare Bear and other highly modified race planes.
@JasonZarifis I don't think they could ever reach this kind of speed. Most likely it's a mistake. Yak-3 is rated at about 422mph or up to 447 in some later versions (not sure how widely those were used). And actually Allison would be a downgrade (in power at least, not likey in reliability, as VK-105/107 engines tended to overheat and wear out quickly), because it made around 1150hp vs 1500+ for Klimov powerplant. Granted, Yak-3 was probably the best dogfighter of WWII
in the West it is assumed that the general helped Frost Russian in ww2 and this is false, because the French pilots vyevavshie in Russia with the Soviet Union, the Yak-3 successfully fought against the German assov.Chest and praise french pilots from iskadrilii Normandie-Niemen fighting on Yak-3!
the best dog fighter of ww2 despite what westerners think.under 10000ft nothing could touch this the germans knew this thats why they got told to avoid it .
One of the greatest planes and one of my favorites... As I am already loving Russian aircraft since I am an aerobatic pilot, I fly an Su-26 (Cy-26)... Very great aircraft..
Great flying Mark. Just about finished with Bob Days Yak7B and should have it in the air by April. Hope to film it flying over the Virginia countryside...will post for any one interested in Yak fighters...thanks for the inspiration.

LoL
they are totally different and Yak-3 is much far superior than P51 even if it doesn't have same British Merline engine :))

There is no better endorsement of the fighting capabilities of this excellent aircraft.

Неужели есть еще летающий Як-3? Как хорошо что хоть на западе сохранили его. В России нет. Спасибо разместившему видео.

500 mph?? Really? I suppose this is for the Allison engined version? That's ridiculously good.
