  • What kind of cruel person plays such beautiful music for only one minute?

  • VERY nice.

  • what's your bass guitar and how long was it (frets)?

  • that is f'ing wicked

  • Great playing man! Your work on it shows.

  • i just cant get enough..i feel so relax while listening to this

  • wish this was longer! I simply cannot get enough of this being played so beautifully on a bass, I must learn this piece :D

  • beautiful! the more Bach that gets played, the better! Bravo!

  • to me, it feels a bit rushed, or in a hurry

  • Lovely, innovative technique ;)

  • Beautiful!!! Perfect for this time of year!

  • Well done, man!!!

  • Beautiful! Thumbs up!

  • Beautiful.

  • Fucking beautiful!

  • this guy is the shit.. love it

  • I needed to hear that, Very VERY nice!

  • Maravilha!!

  • wonderful playing, norm! glad i found you on youtube!

  • Nossa que baixo é esse? muito lindo...

  • MTD 535 awesome bass

  • Sounds great that's all that matters :)

  • If you listen closely, he is complimenting the melody he himself is playing.

  • Yes, please enlighten the youtube community and list all of the terrible 6 string bass players. You make a list of bad 6 string players, and i will come up with one that's twice as long, consisting of 4-string bassists. But that's not the point. The point is that it's not the bassist's job to "shine in the background" and stay out of the limelight. Based off of that, Geddy Lee and Jaco are/were absolutely terrible bass players.

  • You're all leaving out great 5 string players, too! :D

My favorites are Dan Briggs and Arif Mirabdolbaghi.

  • @edthehead83 please enlighten the youtube community why jaco is a terrible bass player cause to me he is the best

  • if you would have actually taken the time to read and comprehend what i wrote, you would not be falsely accusing me of this blasphemy. one would derive that Jaco is terrible, based on the irrational logic that GarryNull has provided us with. I'm just saying that there are a lot more 4 string players than there are 6. therefore, it's more than likely that you will have a larger amount of shitty 4 string players.

  • @edthehead83 ah ic... sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • It's okay. Just for the record, I play both 4 and 6 string basses. I think it's pretty safe to say that the majority of bassists start off playing 4 strings. Each one has it's own thing. My J bass(4) is used for slap and pop/funky stuff but my Ibanez(6) is faster and easier to play; better for metal and my style of playing.

  • how is jaco terrible?

  • Nice.

  • Sweet!!!!

  • EXCELLENT!!! it certainly transmit the message of joy - So happy to have had the opportunity to check with you at the Bass clinic in Burlington Ontario.... oh by the way... Emma said she will never forget the experience either... check our channel if you have the chance

    Peace!

  • too bad you don't have a brain

  • you have the grace of God!!

    God Bless You

  • too bad there was no rubato in Bach's time...

  • I was just kidding, they are actually chopsticks but the resting piece makes it look like a cross! It should be a cross but the chopsticks are an ode to Norm's solo debut Pondering the Sushi.

  • Haha, the two things are not chopsticks, it's a cross dude! He's a Christian!

  • May God bless you!

  • sick,

    that was dope!

    guys got mad technique!

  • i appreciate that he is very gifted, but playing this on a bass just doesnt sound good. a bass is just that, bass.

  • I never understood why people go around posting negative comments on people's videos, especially if there's nothing wrong with them.

    That and it's a 5-string, not a 6-string.

  • Can't express my opinion?

My point is very valid and it mostly gets people mad but I don't care.

Most people dont' know shit about music anyway.

  • I would have to say that its clearly you who "don't know shit about music" if you can HONESTLY say that this doesn't sound good.. I have been a musician studying under some amazing teachers for the past 22 years, so I like to think that I know a thing or 2 about music.. and this is amazing.. Norm is a WONDERFUL player, and people who post comments like yours area clearly jealous of his God given talent

  • Sounds like a personal problem.

John Myung plays a six-string bass, enough said.

  • Jeff Berlin plays a 4 string bass, enough said.

  • Your implications that 6 string basses are sub standard to 4 string basses is ridiculous. There are plenty of amazing 4,5, and 6 string bass players. It's not about how many strings you have, it's about how you play them and some bass players feel that a 6 string bass will expand their range and possibilities of expression. I don't know what anybody should find wrong with that... I suppose you don't like 7 string guitars as well?

  • @edthehead83 are ridiculous.*

  • Norm...you are one of the best bass players I have ever played with...and that was a very challenging piece...but you definitely did it justice. I haven't seen you in years, hope things are well with you.

  • don't screw with bachs chord structure. he was a genius.

  • I swaer this is the first time I have seen someone play melody on bass and you picked a hard one. Freakin amazing man.

  • Wow man....beautiful.

  • Norm , you are very "gifted" and i love your take on this ......Very inspiring

  • I do so like where you are going.

    More please.

    Maplelodger

  • what is that thing right before his neck with the 2 lines on it?

  • chopsticks... engraved... he explains it in the 3rd episode of his blog... where he interviews the maker of that bass... Michael Tobias.... ever heard of Tobias basses??.... he makes them...

  • well, the two lines are pictures of chopsticks. I think he was asking what's the "thing". It's an extra piece that shortens the distance between the body and the strings. It's just something he prefers.

  • the wood thing is a "slap ramp" it reduces the distance between the body and the strings to slap better... the lines are chopsticks with sushi this inlays are because of his first solo album "Pondering The Sushi"

  • you master, i have work in home, thank you

  • great!

  • wow.

    amazing.

  • this is so beautiful!!

  • It's such a peaceful song when it's played on the bass!

  • Norm, You always amaze me.

  • fantastic

  • oh...was fantastic!

  • your brilliant man

  • i have this video and i totally forgot about it haha

hey if you guys wanna go see norm live he plays 2 er 3 saturday nights and sunday mornings at coast hills community church in aliso viejo california

hes a great guy and an amazing bassist

  • Maestro!!!!

  • Great song, and awesome bass guitar! I love MTD Basses! I'm saving money for an American made one! Cheers!

  • those are some jealousy inducing fingers for a guitar player. long and slender, almost like a spider's legs.

  • beautiful. Great job!

  • amaizing... very good arrangment

  • No Words!

  • Beautiful!! Just beautiful! You make that bass sing so sweetly! :D

  • Tasty!

I did this with "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and playing solo like this on bass is one of the hardest things to do, like backing a moving truck into a compact parking spot. You make the bass sing and the arrangement is so musical what a treat!

    Cheers!

  • Beautiful. I'll see if I can "read" your fingers well enough to figure out just how you played that. :-D

  • this is a very excellent performance. i would say its a warrior before and MTD

  • his jazzy spin on it really is so awesome

  • Thumbs placed firmly up!

  • i took some notes at a christian musicians conference in washington in your class, and i still go through them every now and then. you showed me a lotta cool stuff. youre an awesome bass player

  • Sweet playing Norm... Nicely done....

  • wat kind of bass is that?

  • I think it's an MTD

  • I think it may be a Warrior.

  • It is an MTD 535. MTD puts out a "Norm Stockton" Model. He is just that good. =P He is even better live! (It if it possible?!)

  • its not a specific model, but that specific blue color, he had custom ordered, and now you can get it; its called norm stockton blue

  • yeah love that bass MTD´s are the best

  • Norm can play. Also he is a very nice cat !

  • Cool, buddy. :)

  • bem legal o/
