  • hey sister, have ya heard?

  • Awesome song. Everyone heard them. Radio and all. Its just that Debbie Gibson was cuter that these guys. But in the end, she even turned punk

  • Sounds just like Velvet Underground <3

  • Totally agree. Best song in so many ways!

  • the world needs this in bass tabs.

  • @MissionGoneBad

Don't release the bass tabs!.........that would end the Mayan calendar for sure, and brimstone would rain down from the sky.......some shit you just don't mess with!

  • stand up in the heart of hell, I'll never tell

  • im a loser

im commenting on a youtube video

    haha

    this song is the shit

  • One of the top ten bass performances of all time.

  • My favorite VF song too!

  • Six people can't do what they can and don't understand the importance of volatile substances.

  • grazie

  • ..meine Fresse, nach ca. 30 Jahren kenn´ich den Text immer noch auswendig.... Einfach ein gewaltiges Stück Musik(geschichte) und "Country Death Song" kommt direkt danach.

  • im wearing my VFHG shirt. :) lol

  • i stood right up in the heart of hell

  • This was one of my favorite songs about 20 years ago. I worked out a lot of bass or at least until it got crazy. I can find any tabs for it now... got to work it out again.

  • the ending is a WTF, but ya gotta love it.

  • @bassmastastan24 the ending is the best part of the song

  • My favorite song too... and 25 years later it's still so good! Amazing band! Thanks for posting.XXX

  • i do do do do do what i can

  • i do do do do do do what i can

  • This remains my favourite song of all time. This album was pretty psycho, with Country Death Song and Never Tell being the most. That's what made the Violent Femmes' first two albums great: keeping it fresh but keeping it Violent Femmes at its heart.

  • dry but relax,..

    I like the solo

  • dry but relax,..

  • Awesome!! Wonderfull post!!!

  • remember's me when i was taking acid a teenage such good trip

  • I've heard that this song is based on a true story?

  • Wow! du gros rock sale comme une tonne de brique, une run de bass envoutante unique et inoubliable. Dans mon top 15 à jamais!

  • bassista fenomenale

  • Wow this band is fucking amazing! I can't believe I'm just now finding it! Kurt Cobain is how I found this band.

  • Volatile substance indeed, Gano. This song turns me on. Every. Single. Time.

  • is he never gonna tell or is he gonna pass out

  • best femmes song ever

  • I LIKE THE BASS!!!

  • I woke up with this song in my head.

"Hey sister, have you heard? Some people stand like trees, without a word, and what that mean is that some people don't talk"

    I effin love it!

  • their best song

  • It is my favourite song, I've got to say.

I've had so much on my mind.

I was so glad when I died.

And now I'm dead and underground

Waiting for nothing until I am found.

  • wow im amazed, anyone else know any other great music like this i might be missing out on?

  • @mike390g uhh everything else the femmes put out? i usually play their records in sequence with the pixies' stuff, they go together pretty well even though theyre totally different sounds

  • @mike390g pixies buy the album doolittle listen to hey its an awsome song the rest of the album is good to

  • 2nd or 4th cassette tape i bought a quarter of a century ago!

  • This song still excites even after all these years...and it's gotta be LOUD!.

  • what that meeeannnnnns is, some people don't....talk.

my favorite femmes tune. fuckin amazing!!!!

  • i would qualify this as death country. am i right?

  • Gordon's voice reminds me of Lou Reed a little bit

  • @whathelephant1251

    yea, the delivery...

  • loving this bass!

  • @zachbdude How can ya not, it's Brian Ritchie!

But this isn't on Hallowed Ground is it? Maybe so, been awhile for me!

  • @scumgod13 It is on Hallowed Ground. It sounds to me more like one from their debut album as well though.

  • The Violent Femmes is one of the best and most under rated band of all time! If they had radio play they would be huge.

  • @dosomethin888 yeah one of the greatest bands of all time for sure, but radio play would take something away from me & all the die hards...its our music, so pure, most ears won't hear the truth....maybe in another couple of decades ...until then/// never tell /// ; )

  • I stood right up in the heart of hell!, i never gonna tell, i stood right up in the heart of hell, i aint ever gonna tell tell tell tell.... weeeeeeeeeeeee

  • thanks mate, love this song, haven't heard it in about 16 years, will download this from youtube, couldn't find it on limewire

  • najdrugari ikada))))))))))))mmmpmpmmmmm

  • najdrugari ikada...zauvik ..jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee))))mpmpmmmmmmmmmmm

  • my favorite femmes song. got to play the bass solo in barcelona. god knows i'll die happy.

  • definitly one of my fav femmes tunes

  • My math teacher told me about this band. Glad he did! :D

  • και γαμω τα κομματια

  • the bas kills it ,this has and will always be good music.

  • Fantastic song. The bass is amazing (as is everything else)

  • I´ll ever love that tune

  • Need to listen to Jesus Walking On The Water to balance this out.

  • a very dark song. i think nick cave would be jealous

  • This song is good but self titled is definately a better album

  • You are so right, the best Violent Femmes song.

  • Best gospel ever.

    WOW.

  • The best album ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DANIELDAF good, but not quite THAT good.

  • @shmoe2332 Thats the first thing i thought when i heard the song as well - its only really the vocals tho

  • you understaaand???!

  • this album is the best!!!

  • Wow, I really love the bass solo!

  • ritchie's playing at the end is sick

  • Tanks Cangouro, this is the first time I hear it and I´m in Love

  • So full of quotable lyrics:

'But now that you've repeated it, and repeated it, and repeated it, I'll be sure and do what I can...but no more, y'unnerstand?!'

'Whatcha gonna do, ya gonna turn, ya gonna turn rat fink?'

'I've had so much on my mind. I was so glad when I died'

'And I will find you out. And I will cut you up. Mm-hm'

  • what that means is that some people dont...

    talk

  • one of their greatest songs ever, it´s genious... the lyrics are so bizarre but still somehow understandable and the sound is just amazing... wow can´t stop listening to it it´s truely fantastic

  • 3 can keep a secret if 2 are dead.

  • I enjoy Gordon's psychotic admissions.

  • I'm not a huge fan of Violent Femmes to be honest... That said, this is by far one of my favourite tracks of all time.

I guess that portrays pretty well how I feel about this song.

  • apistefto,,thanks so much for uploading this!!!!!

  • κι ομως.. χαχα

  • As much as I revere Modest Mouse and rank them at the top, have they recorded anything to match this?

"I stood right up in the heart of hell!"

  • You ought to be knighted or something for uploading this. Thanks!

  • i fuckin love this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best femmes tune by far crazy bassage

  • probably my favorite femmes song, too. love the bass-playing. this album's a lot darker than most of their other stuff.

  • THANKS for this !!

Huge Femme fan since the early 80s... Glad to see someone else has the vinyls !

  • love itttt

  • "What are you gonna do, turn rat fink?" This song turned me on to the Femmes.

  • Timeless...

  • I have been searching this song for a long time. It shocked to me when I heared first time, perhaps 20 years ago. I think it is one of the best songs of the last eighties. Thanks to the colleague that included this song in Youtube. Next thing to do is to buy the CD, if I can find it in Spain, of course.

  • yes, do that... it's an excellent album!!!

I have the vinyl... from the old days...

  • @Cangouro I had the tape from then

  • @jcmsilgo If you'd really like to treat yourself get The Violent Femme's self titled. One of the BEST albums out of the 80's if your a fan of this folk punk-esq music. Especially the special 20th edition as it comes with a pretty wicked live version of this song.

  • @jcmsilgo go to cduniverse . com

  • Always adored this --I miss the 80's

  • there is a live version that is absolutey amazing. If someone could that up that would be great.

  • Thanks for putting this up.

After all these years -- and it's been 20 years now -- they still sound fresh and bring back all the haunting craziness of those long ago days...

It's of utmost importance -- we're dealing with volatile substance.

I think Violent Femmes will survive the ages. They have the musical ability, the originality, the edge. They are now classic in the best sense -- something that endures because of its quality.

  • fucking great song !!! they really inspired franck black by the way and i do believe that songs like "gouge away" directly come from the energy that "never tell" deliver...

i stood right up in the heart of hell...

  • wow

  • "I stood right up in the heart of hell, I never tell" Best Femmes song

  • my love - she never talks- if shes hurt or angry or if she things smth- she never says smth- she keeps it all ALL to herself...and kills our love
