DM with good master/mix will be awesome the Vinyl is much better. Same with St. Anger production wise (ps. I love both these records)

Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic didn't have the best drumming I'll give you that, but ignoring the drum sound, the drum playing in St. Anger rivals his drumming in And Justice for All, its very complex and fast in St. Anger.

And Black and Load/Reload was supposed to be simpler/less complex than the early albums lol.

Great song! The verse riff starting at 1:12 is fantastic. Metallica, in my opinion, is at their best when they stick with a simple riff like that without to many prog-rocky breaks distracting from the pure bad-ass-ness. Just think about songs like Battery and Creeping Death!

The thing is though, as much as I hate to say it, things started going downhill from Black onwards because Cliff was gone. A few of the songs on there (One) were written around 85-86 era.

Dave and Cliff shaped them in my opinion.
