  • He is so on cocaine.

  • This guy reminds me exactly Of The Doctor from Doctor Who

  • What a mindjob. Papers will never be the same.

  • oh this was fun. i know how it's done but this guy is a blast. if he comes to atlanta i'll go see him.

  • i know why she chose 7, he shows 10 with his fingers and says count off while showing 3. 10-3 is 7

  • my brain got fucked

  • This guy has SWAG.

  • lol u guys are funny how gullible u are....this really isnt the way this trick is done...i am not going to spoil it, but let me just say there is no way this guy is stupid enough to let his career rely on people picking up subtle hints....

  • @KATOMATE01 Yeah. But either way, it's genius. A magic trick within several magic tricks. Awesome.

  • @KATOMATE01 Yeah, you must have a point there. It would be a too big risk I would think.

  • @KATOMATE01 He's willing to risk his career for it because this type of thing is proven. An unthinkable amount of research and effort has gone into the human mind and psychology. Derren is no doubt an expert in it. Influence is all around us, we just don't know it.

  • Thumbs Up if you went back to look for the clues.

  • but why was it 7?

  • @Draiko1111 Maybe it was pure coincedence or a trick but i was thinking seven as well. Being one of the nearly 60 000 people who has seen this video chosing a number between 1 and 10 it is bound to happen sometimes.. but still, it's derren brown

  • very beautiful girls....

  • I'd be scared someone would just be oblivious to the cues somehow and miss them

  • His explanation doesn't wash. The real trick is not revealed.

  • How could she know that the page was nr 14 when she stopped?

And saying that that woman could tear the page and keep the piece with "influential" in it, in her right half of the pile and seventh in line, just cos derren said; "tear around influential" - - thats ridiculous and i dont buy it.. he cant be basing this on the subsconscient mind because SOOO much can and will go wrong.

  • @Nordb0nk There is a lot that could go wrong. I suspect it really was not page 14 that DB turned to. Unless I counted wrong, I counted 8 page turns which means the page should have been 16, and not 14. Did I miscount? Could he have gotten a special printing with all pages numbered 14 or something (Or Danny is in on it)? I do agree that a lot of the explanation is misdirection and there's a lot he's not telling us.

  • The REAL trick is still unexplained by Derren Brown. Can't you see you are ALL being fooled??

His explanation IS the magic! IT is what make the people BELIEVE and say WOW! Because when he only shows the big banner with the word "influential", many people is still not believing it, thinking it's a fraud, the people called on stage are actors, but when he shows his explanation EVERYBODY believe him! Like "there's no trick in here! He's a genious of subconscient!".

  • @pfeil Fail.

  • Brilliant...

  • Brilliant...

  • Brilliant...

  • I wonder if this was set up?

  • what about the padlock?

  • @sfgox10 The thing about the padlock is that he is giving her subconsius messages about the correct numbers. When we think about things we make slight movements that is registered by the unconsius part of the brain. He uses that fact and "tells" her what the numbers are using his mind.

  • Derren is so awesome and funny

    Genius! Influential!

  • Derren is so awesome and funny

    Genius! Influential!

  • Damn he's good...

  • O.O

    Holy shit!

  • this is sick xDD

  • this is so awesome !

  • This guy is a psychological genius.

  • @dannyboy41 I approve, but I wouldnt want him to be my boss

  • weird

  • Love his hyper energy!!

  • @Greenwolfdragon I'd say it's a bit too much.

  • @kamratframjandet It's necessary for his show, this is how he hides his suggestions, keeps the volunteer focused, diverts the public, ...

  • Freaking amazing...its impossible to pick up on his suggestions, but they work!

  • No it is quite possible

  • LOL hes like FREAKING OUT

  • thats amazingggg

  • hahaha he's so happy!! :D

  • Wow. He's wonderful to watch, and he has an energy that most people don't!

  • I wont read all 179 comments, but why was there 2 piece of papers in the case? I mean you only need one paper for page 14 ey? So there must have been a plan, a work around for the woman choosing between right and left pieces of paper. AND! He must of said different page names throughout the show for backup. Its just that we didn't notice, and only believe what he has shown us at the end in the video montage....

  • But that doesn't account for the envelope. Hypnotic suggestion is pretty effective.

  • Even I could work out that the lady were going to choose the pieces she had in her right hand, rather than the pieces in the left hand. He directed that very nice, aswell with subliminal encouragement etc... It must have been the same for the number 7 at the table later on... but I couldn't tell that one on forehand.

  • caught the daily male/mail and the page fourteen one

the vid with the black and white balls

  • what if the pink lady didn't choose 7? would that word influential be there?

  • Do you remember when he makes those strange noises with his mouth, when the girl brings him the cut newspaper? ;)

  • is there anyone who ll tell me what the show is about i mean i dont understand anything

  • i just had my 12th shot. i agree.

  • did he kiss her on the cheeck :/

  • get over it

  • you can see he loves doing this... he's so giddy. he literally jumps around on stage when he realizes it has worked. it's kinda cute in a sense... like a kid on Christmas.

    anyway... best trick ever.

  • it's not 1.6 mln words because many words repeat ;) anyway I love Derren's shows... just bought his book - I strongly advice reading it

  • :D I love it when Derren gets excited.

  • maybe i'm wrong, but look back the videos what he projected and the first 3 or 4 he didn't wearing the same coat - i mean those are black - or it's just an optical illusion?

  • He changed coats between two halves of the show!

  • not surprised, he probably sweats a lot jumping around like that.

  • @MavisRileyJunior I believe he does this to even further trick the mind, as when he changes his coat you subconciously think its a whole new act that has nothing to do with the things said before thus drilling the subconcious informationail pieces even further in your mind, but you dont know about any of this, because you didnt get it in the first place and this trickery makes you not care about it even if you thought it was wierd or misplaced. The proof is all there on the final cut.

  • people's minds are really weak against a master like derren

  • amazing

  • mofo's selling him as influential

    jolly quick

    mind tripping cunt

  • best ever

  • THIS GUY PWNS

  • There are much more subconscious suggestion than that he showed. Check ut 4:00, 4:42 in the "Part One" video. :D

  • Its great he is soo honest at the end about what he is doing. He could simply be another fraud that the audience would think he is paranormal or something.

  • fucckking awesome... he can make me shoot my self.. lol

  • a real life jedi

  • he talks so my head explode

  • Agreee

  • Darren is the one who originally told her the headline was on page 14...

  • is d way he talks so fast a part of d trick???

  • nope, just fun to listen to

  • People are easier to influence by fast-talkers. He proves it

  • Imagine how much fun the media have with us all to create a particular atmosphare in the society. Of course they know all about NLP (Neuro linguistic programmering). They are the experts at it. And imagine how much power a goverment have when they inderict have control of the media, even if it is only one media outlet. Think about it!

  • Welcome to advertising, We´re glad you could make it.

  • Derren Brown proves free will is a myth.

  • Amazing how the mind freaking works

  • she didn't read the paper . she couldn't know where was the word influential . so she couldn't know where to tear ..and what about number 7 at the end ?? he doesn't explain everything .. or did I miss something ?

  • @ytertyu You can actually read a whole text subconsciously within a blink of an eye. It's fucking hard to transfer that knowledge to your conscious mind, but there are people who do it either naturally or by MUCH training. But that wasn't needed here, because it was all about the subconscious anyway.

BTW, to MavisRileyJunior: How can there be "spoiler posts" when Darren gives a complete explanation anyways? o_O

  • @ytertyu go up to someone tell them to think about a number between 1 and 10. and without you knowing how to influence people when you guess they chose 7 you're right 75% of the time. i don't know why. its just statisticly very likely. And now imagine you're able to do some mind tricks i think its easy to get the 75% way up. Try it out on some people ;) just make them anwer quick and don't let them think about it too much

  • @ytertyu When given option to select a number from 1 to 10, the most common number is 7. Hes calling her out clearly and loudly and acting very quick and exhausted so she will think she has to make the decision quick and doesnt have much time so she goes with the most plain answer, which is number 7.

  • the trick explanation at the end is not the real trick.

  • derren brown is a mind rapist

  • fucking great!

  • I'm only going to say to all you intelligent people that from this effect I love minute 2, 41 and I'm not saying more about it.

    Great entertainer Derren Brown.

    Amazing.

    Cheers.

  • I'm only going to say to all you intelligent people that from this effect I love minute 2, 41 and I'm not saying more about it.

    Great entertainer Derren Brown.

    Amazing.

    Cheers.

  • Why is he screaming so much?

  • OMFG Derren Brown is so fucking amazing! he's like a human subliminal message machine!

  • and of course if everyone in the audience was a "stooge," there would be such a high chance that word would spread around saying that he's a fake, so that can't be possible either.

I would really want Derren's job lol. He must be so proud of his work.

  • I love the energy he has onstage. You can tell he's so excited about what he does and can't wait to get up in the morning to do what he does.

  • hopefully!!! :)

  • if i can persuade people into doing stuff like that i too would be excited and cant wait for each day to come

  • Wait, so how did he get her to open the case when she couldn't before??

  • Giving suggestions when he's talking to her directly, giving hints to each number, either in words, or in hand motion.

there's a clip on how he makes you choose a certain card out of 52 (somewhere on youtube lol), which uses similar technique he used to tell that girl the combination.

    This guy is amazing.

  • i would like to think so, too, but watch how she steps to the case, looks at it, than steps back, and does the exactely same move again 2 secs later to then be insync with his talk.

  • She was chosen via monkey in part one(which should be on my channel) Trust me she isnt a stooge,

  • unfortunately she already got the case before part1... but nevertheless, in general i think derren is a master in fooling people - and his greatest trap is that he makes people think the mind can do nearly everything. nlp is powerful, of course, but it cannot offer an explanation for everything, and it is far to often missused as a pseudo-scientific substitute for in fact spiritual beliefs. derren knows this fact and exploits it - in a very entertaining way :-)

thx for uploading, by the way..

  • Sorry about that lol.

Well she is chosen at random at some point.

    Glad you enjoy videos.

  • What does choosen vie monkey mean?

She is a stooge. She never chooses "Daily News" or "14" as Derren says. She choose the lady in the audience, and picked a headline that was on page 14. He's using misdirection.

  • He throws a toy monkey into the crowd, who catches it is chosen. No she didnt choose daily news,it was daily mail ;)

  • derren is a genius, no doubt about that... so dont get me wrong, but does anybody know, how this girl dany was actually chosen in the beginning of the show? cause the trick is really easy, if she is involved in the whole thing, and look at 3:20, i think she is giving it away there. at this time, he did not even mention the case, but she is already moving towards it, as if she would know what comes next...

  • She was chosen at random, and isnt "In on it".

  • i would like to think so, too, but look how she steps to the case, looks at it, steps back and does the exactely same moves again to then be insync with derrens talking. looks a lot like bad timing to me

  • The ending supposed to make you feel like he's reveling the trick... but it's just more misdirection

  • OMG... imagine how long he spent thinking of that....

  • HOLY SMOKE!

  • Shoulda hypnotized them girls and had them make out.

  • @ VEGETADTX: LOL! The point is... NLP. Derren's constantly (and Incessantly)Programming words in their (and our) heads. It REALLY works; daily, hourly, anytime, for thousands of years.

Been 2 various NLP-performers in the UK and the results are staggering and mind you, I consider myself not to be very gullible. (I must add that I'm Austrian/Dutch.)

    XCLNT stuff.

  • By the simple fact that he talks 20000/km per second I can't understand a god damn thing from this vid... I don't get the point :(

Are those three with him? or what?

  • i think derren has supernatural powers, but i dont really know, mavis

  • great performance

  • goddammit. he's a genuis.

  • lol i like is energy but he didnt explain how he influenced danny to pick number 7 and choose the word influental, while he only said the word once and mail, page 14, choose like 6 times..

  • Just imagine how embarrassing for him it would have been if one of them had changed their mind....in front of all those people.

  • but they didnt. and thats why its quite brilliant

  • That's probably why he was like, crack-fiend ecstatic at the end when it worked and he got to show everyone how he did it. I mean, honestly it could have gone wrong and if I were doing this performance I'd be sweating bullets through the whole thing!

  • I love how he's so excited when revealing what's been happening during the show, without the audience realising. :D

  • this guy is amazing, absolutely unbelievable. I love all of his videos. I wish he was more popular in the US

  • When he's describing what he did, you can so tell he's acting. But because he's passionate, he's doing it amazingly well. I mean, it wasn't the Daily Mail and p14 that were picked - it was Kirsty and a random headline. But he used his powers of manipulation to convince the audience (through flattery too, e.g. "you're intelligent people") of what he did. But he has his own secrets, amazing secrets that he pulls off so convincingly.

  • I think you're right. He doesn't give away half of the 'secret technics' he is using. Very inspiring done though, satisfying enough for the audience as a group. But it leaves a lot open to think about still. Great example of the usage of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

  • lol.. darren said "fucking" o-O

  • haah youd be surprised about derren ;)

  • It's pretty impressive.

  • that was so sweeeet

  • haha he called himself magicboy

  • woahhh, geneii!!!

  • He is pretty much amazing.

  • amazing!! darren brown is a genious!!! but you cut out the cool ending...

  • dude he isnt on drugs hes on a tight time schedule...

  • i got 7 too

  • precision co-ordination

look it up, it's quite interesting

  • I love it when he reveals his tricks, thats the best part of the show! It´s so boring and frustrating when a performer does a trick and never explains it!

  • But why did she choose number 7??

  • Because thats the number most people choose when picking between 1-10.

  • lol when he asked to pick a number between 1 and 10 the first number that came into my head was 7. It's a bit spookey.

  • 7 is the most common to pick between 1-10.

You will notice it a lot in his shows when he asks someone to think of a number.

  • did he do some drugs before the show? hes all hyper lol

  • I'm sorry that you are apparently unable to imagine being excited without drugs.

I think the way he is practically jumping up and down just before the influential banner is revealed is one of the most endearing things I've ever seen. We're all in a bit of a hurry to ditch our inner child, and that's sad.

  • this man is a legend.

but it wouldnt be good to be friends with him cuz he could like tell you subconsiously to do something weird, lol

  • He's a very understanding, tolerant and empathetic guy though, or seems to be from his book.

  • god i think this is the most excited he got

  • Watching it is the most excited I got too :D

  • Tear around, influential XD!

  • wow! FUCING HELL!

  • this guy needs to redo his act. good trick but it was a 20 minute trick. Start to lose interest

  • he gets incredibly excited dont you think!!

  • I think most people would too if you just managed to do that and it all turned out well and worked! Just like when he has a really happy smile on his face when he (spoiler for Shopping Mall video>>) makes all the shoppers raise their hands up in the air at the same time by talking over the loud speaker! :P

  • well thats the whole point with this shit, you say that he uses "influence" when he speaks, well thats the whole point with all this. He makes her go where he wants by choosing what he says.

How on earth is he supposed to do this otherwise?!

  • absolute legend!!

  • what a clever guy -- how in the world did he figure out he could do that

  • damn he's good..

  • haha

  • he also said, when she was making her choices..."I don't want to INFLUENCE you."

  • What a charming and excitable man.

  • the most important question is why is he wearing a black suit on the video broadcast and a brownish suit the rest of the time ??

  • Good observation, although audience members are the same and certainly werent stooges.Weird.

  • The stage show has 2 sets and an intermission, that's when he changes his suit. The parts from the video screen were taken in the beginning.. They showed it all on the original TV broadcast, even the part where he told the audience he would be in about 10 minutes or so.

I'll need to add this to my "MavisRileyJunior is going senile" list.

  • Hmm okay I'll let this comment go.

  • He even says at 8:30 "when you all came back from drinks"

  • A few questions were left unanswered.

how the hell did he know how the woman with the daily mail would rip it?

how did he know she would choose 7?

(he could have primed her to choose 7 by using another one of his manipulation techniques)

  • number 7 is a very popular number. seven days in a week. seven dwarves, seven is my lucky number.

also he kept mentioning page 14 and tearing the page in HALF. HALF of 14 is 7. as he said... inevitable

  • Aaaaactually, she CHOSE 7... but he PICKED number EIGHT!

Look again... he counts till seven, casts aside the seven pieces and let her take piece 8!

That might bring us closer to the sollution.

What I do NOT know is HOW he knew how to pick number 8 from all the pieces. The "tear around" thingie cannot be enough, now can it?

  • She could have teared it into 5 pieces, 10 pieces, 1000 pieces - he had noway of knowing how manypieces she would do - how big each would be.

  • As influential is near the centre of the page, the way he describes how to tear the paper, this makes the word near to the middle of the pile. As for him selecting the number 8, depending on how he places the pile, he always has two degrees of freedom for error (-1 to +1). He explains it really well in his book in the chapter about card tricks.

Derren Brown is, without a doubt, the best entertainer, he far surpasses any magician or psychic reader. one word for him - Legend.

  • It's a great trick, but I thought I'd just point out that NLP (which he *claims* to use) doesn't actually play that great a part in his tricks. It's a brilliant combination of misdirection, mentalism, etc. etc.

He's a brilliant performer, but his claims for NLP are misdirection(!).

  • He says in his book that he has never claimed to use NLP and that's just bollocks.
