im Haitian yes white people live in Haiti mulatto is what they are called being a Haitian is not a race its a denomination my Haitian had it rough since the start we never had it easy i wold love to think there weren't so many ignorant people in the world who think were evil and sold our soul to the devil just because we overthrew the french government but its whatever im proud to be haitian the first republic to gain its independence and inspired other nations to do the same AYITI CHERIE!!!!!
@doughertycharlestv yeah but when they are of her complexion in Haiti there still considered mulatto or white because there complexion isnt black but regardless your stil Haitian i have relatives that are white looking and speak better french and creole than me but they live in Haiti so its all good :)
Please ignore Pat Robertson - he's a complete gaping asshole. This one tiny nation on the island of Hispaniola established so many inspiring historical precedents, it's truly astonishing. The only successful slave rebellion in history also became the first fully autonomous black republic in the world, before any nation in Africa. Haiti was of course made an example of by the imperial powers for doing this, and is why the once richest colony in the Americas, is now the most impoverished.
@nolovelost92 "to immigrate to Canada" is just as correct; and the change of syntax within a sentence is a rhetorical device called anacoluthon, nothing poor about it sir !
Jesus Christ get over the whole haiti aspect of it. It's just an amazing song. I know it's called Haiti but just enjoy a great song people. WTF with the whole race thing???
@dawnenl13 Regardless of if it is or is not AS poor as portrayed, it is still an impoverished country and there is no denying that. I'm Haitian and I've been to Haiti, and I can honestly tell you that few parts are as portrayed in the video. Every country has poverty, no need to get offended. Just be proud of who you are regardless! (not saying you aren't)
I guess you think the parents of the white infants were in the country to show love and kindness to the enslaved Africans and natives. The sins of the father are repaid by the children. We were happy they never returned -that was the point of the revolution - the only thing they need to return is all of the money they stole. There was no need for the French president to come to the Country unless he came to bring back what was stolen. FUCK YOU as well - you wish.
it isn't solely about being poor it's about the government, if you look up what she's saying in french it had a lot to do with her family and friends and everyone around her and her family being killed in haiti. which is why they left for canada i'm pretty sure. idk, i've just seen a lot of stuff focusing on poverty. when it's more about her personal reason for writing the song about her experience with haiti, etc
i think there's something incredibly admirable about the haitian people. it begins when they overthrow the colonial french government in the early 1800's. i don't know much about haiti but i think its safe to say times have never been easy. but they have strength and persevere. it's incredibly admirable.
@noahtavlin Are you out of your mind? Those retards took one of the most beautiful, and productive islands down here, and turned it into hell on earth! They raped white babies children and pregnant mothers during their ''overthrow'' Their standard was white French infants stuck to the end of a pike! The scene was SOO gruesome when French ships approached the docks, they left. Never to return.
What's so admirable about Haitians who in the midst of perhaps the largest natural disaster to hit its nation ever, many of its people still prefer to steal, rape and kill rather than come together to rebuild their country?
Almost two years later and it still looks like the day after the earthquake? WTF? If Haitians had any pride and self-respect they would've gotten together and cleaned up their country LONG AGO instead of continaully waiting for the world to do it for them.
But Haiti is still a massive shithole. You can make a vid showing happy people in sudan; it doesn't mean its a nice place overall. You realize Haiti is the most dangerous country in the western hemisphere right?

I suggest a formidable force of *small tools*, like how we carve combs, beads, pendants, thimble holders, and bottle shaped needle cases for the community.
@vibenhard haitians are less dependent on there goverment then americans...if americans had no infurstructure they would lose there mines...haitians made history 200 years ago and the been for it since then...when i go to sleep at night glory for haiti is what i dream about
@vibenhard I would like to thank you for opening up my eyes. I During the past few years I've been trying to obtain the American dream which consists of owning a home, a nice car, and marrying a model wife. Now I realize that the American dream is spending time with people I love.
@vibenhard Rape is an almost every day occurance in Haitian camps. Children are most vulnerable. There are people in America who have barely anything. 13 million children suffer from hunger. In Haiti, one of the camps is controlled by the criminal gangs. It's nice to piss on American materialism, but let's not say that the people of Haiti are happier because they are less materialistic and are standing together as a community. Because that's just a dumb generalization.
happiness is not determined by the things we have compared to what others dont. people in haiti are just as happy as we are, its just different things that make them smile and laugh. the emotion happiness is just the same. i love this video, its really beautiful. the song is awesome too, the arcade fire is a really versitile band and one of my top favorites forever :)
@gimmesky Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, and it's silly to think they represent some sort of idyllic lifestyle. Haitians die every day of preventable causes like starvation or tuberculosis, and many are without access to clean drinking water and proper health care. Except for the earthquake last year, their pain has gone largely unnoticed by the world. Check out kanpe.org (a charity that Arcade Fire is a part of) or pih.org to find out more about the struggles and hope.
@gimmesky well according to scientists, happiness is determined by how much those around us have. The more they have the less happy we are even if we are far richer then they are.
I've heard this song hundreds of times on my iPod. Gives me a great feeling every time I hear it. Beautifully written, composed and sang. Arcade Fire are so underrated!
@Sindeerockstar No, YOU are the blind shit bag. Go fuck yourself. MOve to Haiti and keep America clean by taking your nigger ass out of here. You apes ruin the country.
@diggingupdinosaurs I agree with you, Regine is so hauntingly beautiful in this song. Did you know she's a native from there. Arcade Fire make such beautiful music.
we donate millions, millions of dollars to haiti and they've gotten nowhere, how about we use that money for our own country, this is why the economy, we should help ourselves not them, so if you donate to haiti dont ever complain about how bad the economy is....
@AMar71878 it means they are playing music created by black people about black people and all the fame, money, and praise dosen't goes to black people not because they intend to but just by existing
@Skidhblanir I assume you are black then, one of these people who have a gripe against white people for all eternity? GET A LIFE! Look at all these hiphop artists who just flash their pimped up cars and cribs all the time, not much of their money going to charity is there even though its their ancestors! IDIOT that you are
@Skidhblanir Arcade Fire have donated millions to charities giving aid to Haiti. Régine Chassagne (the singer of this song) is of Haitian descent and mixed race, and this song is her tribute to her homeland. So much for profiting off black people. Get your facts straight before you make ridiculous claims in the future.
@lMaximumlHeat I saw them live in Maryland about a week ago. They started playing this, and I cried for the first time since the 5th grade. And Im a junior in high school now. Before I die, this is the song I want to hear.
@msane4XX Yeah I'm going into my senior year, I saw them play this at Lolla and cried. As amazing as all of Arcade Fire was (my favorite show of all time), it was whenever she sang that I kinda lost it.
Poor people does not always equal unhappy people. Believe me. In the small villages of my home country, Nicaragua, most people are poor but I miss that place and those people like you wouldn't believe. Sometimes you find the most beauty in the places you'd least expect them to be. :)
@AnytimeMinutes I hate to sound rude, but that's total bullshit. I spent the 1st ten years of my life living in Puerto Rico and I remember my childhood as happy times, because we knew what we were "missing", we were able to live without it.
I now live in Mississippi, where I go to college, I'm surrounded by my friends, I've experienced all of the amenities(tv's, Ipods, FaceBook, Xbox Live) but in Puerto Rico, we lived as happy as a true American, because we had each other.
@AnytimeMinutes It's a shame that some people have such a limited view, but I have two families, two more than you will ever have, you shallow bastard.
@AnytimeMinutes I thank you for forgiving me, and I forgive you for the comment, but Puerto Rico is my home, much like your house, except much bigger, If people remember there homes for happy times, then they'll have a sense of longing for it....
@mysteryskater48 ill forgive you for the judgment call, since you don't know me. you cant tell me, once people experience life in America, you hardly see them go back do you?
@AnytimeMinutes Funny you say that, I was there last November, and yeah America's a great place, I love it, it's a "super-power" country, but the people here are good people, but I'm going to love Puerto Rico more because it's my home, plus Puerto Rico is a third world country, but it's not a shantytown!
@bellatrixthechicken I never directly said america was the best, but I don't think you can be completely happy with those living conditions. I've thought about going to canada
Although they undergo many difficulties, especially economic difficulties, it does not take away their dignity and their happiness, something to be imitated, indepedent of our class ethnic, cultural and social life!
Haiti was a disaster zone before the earthquake, not that I'm disrespecting Haiti but even before the earthquake Haiti had one of the world's worst economies and crime rates.

This song is so pure. Such a suprise for Arcade Fire.
waddy123 1 year ago
@waddy123 Arcade Fire might be sincere but they are still profiting off black people
Skidhblanir 1 year ago
@Skidhblanir What does that even mean?
AMar71878 1 year ago
@AMar71878 it means they are playing music created by black people about black people and all the fame, money, and praise dosen't goes to black people not because they intend to but just by existing

@Skidhblanir wtf?
jamzyhorton 1 year ago
@Skidhblanir I assume you are black then, one of these people who have a gripe against white people for all eternity? GET A LIFE! Look at all these hiphop artists who just flash their pimped up cars and cribs all the time, not much of their money going to charity is there even though its their ancestors! IDIOT that you are
EzPz8 1 year ago
@Skidhblanir Arcade Fire have donated millions to charities giving aid to Haiti. Régine Chassagne (the singer of this song) is of Haitian descent and mixed race, and this song is her tribute to her homeland. So much for profiting off black people. Get your facts straight before you make ridiculous claims in the future.

Video aside (which is superb, by the way), this is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard.

@lMaximumlHeat I saw them live in Maryland about a week ago. They started playing this, and I cried for the first time since the 5th grade. And Im a junior in high school now. Before I die, this is the song I want to hear.
msane4XX 1 year ago

I now live in Mississippi, where I go to college, I'm surrounded by my friends, I've experienced all of the amenities(tv's, Ipods, FaceBook, Xbox Live) but in Puerto Rico, we lived as happy as a true American, because we had each other.
mysteryskater48 10 months ago
@mysteryskater48 well then, give up all you've achieved to go back to puerto rico if that is true happiness
AnytimeMinutes 10 months ago
@AnytimeMinutes It's a shame that some people have such a limited view, but I have two families, two more than you will ever have, you shallow bastard.
mysteryskater48 10 months ago
@mysteryskater48 its a shame you don't see reality.
AnytimeMinutes 10 months ago
@AnytimeMinutes I thank you for forgiving me, and I forgive you for the comment, but Puerto Rico is my home, much like your house, except much bigger, If people remember there homes for happy times, then they'll have a sense of longing for it....
That or I'm a really optimistic asshole...
mysteryskater48 10 months ago
@mysteryskater48 ill forgive you for the judgment call, since you don't know me. you cant tell me, once people experience life in America, you hardly see them go back do you?
AnytimeMinutes 10 months ago
@AnytimeMinutes i can because that's how it works, you're here.
AnytimeMinutes 10 months ago
@AnytimeMinutes Funny you say that, I was there last November, and yeah America's a great place, I love it, it's a "super-power" country, but the people here are good people, but I'm going to love Puerto Rico more because it's my home, plus Puerto Rico is a third world country, but it's not a shantytown!
mysteryskater48 10 months ago
@AnytimeMinutes
I want to leave america because its corrupt and go to Canada.
Free healthcare bitch
Where's your point now?
Also my favorite place in america is my grandmothers summer shack on a lake in the woods without cable or plumbing. not exactly teeming with wealth
bellatrixthechicken 10 months ago
@bellatrixthechicken I never directly said america was the best, but I don't think you can be completely happy with those living conditions. I've thought about going to canada

Haiti was a disaster zone before the earthquake, not that I'm disrespecting Haiti but even before the earthquake Haiti had one of the world's worst economies and crime rates.
