Contrary the belief that it was religious repression, this event has been wrongly used to prove religious oppression.
The deaths caused by starvation was due to poor economic decisions, so I don't know why you would include it in the figures this so-called "Tibetan Holocaust".
I also don't know why you would include deaths as a result of suicide and battle validate your claims of genocide. Genocide is the systemic killing of a race. So how can you include, 1) people killing themselves, and 2) people killed in battle, I mean, come on, when you have a battle, yes, people actually die! can you believe it?!

2) Cultural and political imperialism has occurred in Tibet, and Tibetans have the right to self-determination.

For example, the destruction of the monasteries was part of the Cultural Revolution, where they wanted to scrap the past and start on a new page. Contrary the belief that it was religious repression, this event has been wrongly used to prove religious oppression.
The deaths caused by starvation was due to poor economic decisions, so I don't know why you would include it in the figures this so-called "Tibetan Holocaust".

It doesn't reveal anything of the present-day Tibet. Not even the Dalai Lama has accused China of genocide, he is careful to use the term 'cultural genocide' which is the fading away of the Tibetan culure, and NOT the systematic destruction of his race.
Unfortunately, people are ignorant enough to interpret this as 'genocide'. Neither has there been any verified claims of genocide. Just because the CCP heavily regulates foreign media in China DOESN'T make all your suspicions true.

I support the current movement in Tibet for independence because:
0) CCP is no egalitarian system (there is enough proof) nor is Xinhua press.
1) I do not realistically think it will revert back to a feudal state, we should have a historical perspective on this, much has changed since the 1930s and I don't think the workers will allow this to happen.
2) Cultural and political imperialism has occurred in Tibet, and Tibetans have the right to self-determination.
3) Tibet was an independent nation.

I also believe that Tibet should have the right to self-determination, but at the same time I do not think they would want independence, since A) past revolts showed zero support, B) their lives have improved greatly (education, economy, life expectancy).

It's not just a matter of holding a referendum on a state that would like to split due to extreme repression. Tibet was an independent nation invaded and annexed by China. The justification that Tibet was a part of Qing dynasty propels the idea of other countries following CCP's idealogy. Turkey would invade Greece, India can invade Pakistan, almost every other country on the globe can start invading neighbors. There would be global chaos and they will justify - Well, China did it! What then?

2) I would assume their spiritual leader that they hold in the highest regard represents their will. The Dalai Lama has made it clear they do not want to be independent.
3) The video verifies the historic events of neither the CCP or Tibetan's claims to justify its sovereignty of Tibet.

Last, I forgot to mention that a big part of the reason why the 1959 revolt in Tibet (which was funded and encouraged by the CIA) failed because of the lack of support from the TIbetan population. Go read up on it. Even the recent protests have been called mainly protests of ethnic violence by Western journalists NOT independence like CNN/FOX is trying to imply. Clearly nobody really wants to go to the old system of fuck-me-in-the-ass theocracy except the exiles who would benefit of course.

Also, China has built hospitals, schools, roads, etc for the Tibetans since they took over. Did you know that TIbet was a theocracy run on SLAVERY prior to the 1950 takeover? POOR monks? These same monks are seen in videos walking along with the violent mobs that STONED children and BURNED down stores of innocents- Han Chinese and muslim population. These POOR monks supported the slavery system of theocracy they had going. What a joke. Learn more about Tibet before making a video about it.

And your info is full of shit. Justify your claims that they are trying to wipe out TIbetan ethnicity. If they're trying to do that, they're not doing it every well. Ethnic minority population growth outpaces Han Chinese in China since they are limited to 1 child. The Tibetans are not even taxed. The Tibetans have received huge amounts of aid to cover the lack of tax. Tibetans are given grants for post-secondary education like in Canada for the natives.

Granted the Tibetan genocide situation betweem 1950 and 1983 was really bad. Not that it suddenly stopped after 1983. Latest numbers up until 2008 will be published soon. That said, the problem is Maoism that silences everyone. No freedom of speech! Until the root cause of problem is solved with democracy, there is no guarantee what the Maoist CCP slaughtering machine is doing with no access to anyone to report events in Tibet. They say it is "internal matter". Deception = Xinhua, for starters.

Jesse Owens did MORE for the cause against racism & oppression by standing as a proud athlete. He was a winner, not a whiner. He didn't hide or boycott to ineffectively deliver a message. Today's athletes could make a stand by wearing a pin, learning to sign "Free Tibet" while on the podiums, acting as teachers while there, etc. This protest belittles us all.
