I'm kind of confused as to what proportion of this video is sarcastic.
The point of the public option is supposed to allow insurance companies to survive but offer them competition so that the quality of service for the buck will have to go up to compete with the public option, and so that people can get the public option at least if no private insurers offer anything acceptably good for what is affordable. You are implying that it won't really do that at all? /confused
You can be secure in the knowledge that whatever the men in suits who know how to smile at the cameras and shake hands with the "citizens" tell you the bill will do is false, or not at all the whole story.
Now, the way I would think one would "allow competition" would be to remove some of the barriers that keep the government-enforced ologopoly in place. Not "compete" with tax funds. Economists are spinning in their graves.
Check out godbotherer1909' latest comment here - I was a bit off.
there is a lot of issues with the current healtcare setup in america. the single payer system seems to be the way to go and what really annoys me about these people screaming thier heads off about goverment control or the costs involved are the same types that voted for george bush and had no problem with him getting a blank check for the iraq war. what was spent on the iraq war could have covered a goverment option with money to spare.and money is still being spent on that war
Some vet got some press by invoking the constitution on this health care thing, as well as the oath he took to "protect" it from "enemies foreign and domestic." Heh, how bout that "not officially declared a war" he fought in? If he's so concerned about his oath, it's pretty clear what he should be doing....
Americans spend more on healthcare than ANY OTHER COUNTRY ON EARTH and come 36th on the WHO assessment of health care systems. The current system is corrupt, broken, and kiss goodbye to your hard earned assets if you ever get really sick. The single payer system will be cheaper, won't line the pockets of insurance companies, you won't be tied to your employment to keep healthcare.
It may end up being cheaper in the short-term due to the habits of the current (not fully government-funded) system still being in place. You can be absolutely sure that any change made will be lining someone's pockets very well, and the already %50+ fascicisized state-privileged medical companies look like the recipients. In the long run, the forced funding will do what it almost always does - raise prices and erode service level.
By the way, single payer isn't even on the table right now.
Gotta disagree friend. We're transitioning to a system enjoyed by every other industrialized nation and they all pay less than us. And 35 of them are ranked better at providing healthcare. There's still greed among doctors in London or Paris, but their citizens don't go broke paying health bills. We do need to go straight to the single payer option though, I agree with you that the half measures could make things worse.
Well, there are of course many factors at play when we look to other parts of the world,I hesitate to place all of the credit/blame for the health care conditions on a single variable. I am not optimistic, in any case.
I would like to point out (again?) that the reason one can not get cheaper health care is because of the protectionist "regulations" on the industry.
And we know that everything passed in Washington benefits a big-money concern at the expense of everyone else.
Which isn't to say that some of the supposed beneficiaries won't benefit, hell, maybe I'll be shocked and health care overall will improve (though that is of course a hard thing to determine a measure for).
Of course, what will suffer.... well, will go unnoticed, hidden cost and all that....
I understand the fear many Americans have, but having grown up in Europe I don't share those fears. The current system charges incredibly high premiums so a profit motivated insurance company can ration treatment. We're already lining people's pockets; the insurers. A one payer system takes the insurer out of the picture leaving more money for healthcare at less cost to the consumer. Again, every other country pays less for healthcare. Even if one payer is badly run it'll be a big improvement.
Actually, the more I've listened over the last week makes me think you might be right. Looks like instead of taking the profit out of illness this bastardized plan might just end up sifting more cash to the insurance leeches. Hope I'm wrong. This sucks.
Well, I called it wrong then. I thought the "patriots" were getting manipulated on behalf of the insurance companies, and they were fighting the Medical care industry for the bread. Interesting. Not surprising, I guess. I knew some big already-a-state-colluder group was getting it good.... I hate this....
yes the patriots are being manipulated by their fear of bigger government, it is a new tax, single payer is the cheapest, screw the lobby & insurance co job, with no rationing
Everyone should read Matt Taibbi's article over at Rolling Stone. It's a long read, but well worth the time. Yes, it is a scam, but not for the reasons you stated. Anyway, good vid! Btw, minor correction: the FDIC is not tax-payer funded, it is funded by the banks. For the most part, as far as healthcare reform goes, there no real reform even on table anymore - so we're basically screwed.
The rate the banks pay is not calibrated based upon the assessment of the risk of a payout on the policy, as every non-governmental insurance does. When a payout on an FDIC policy is made, it comes from the general till, and no adjustment to the coverage rates is made.
Dude, you are truly scaring me with this new delivery. i like it. I keep shouting... oh no no no.... say it isn't true.. And yes it is. This bullshit is straight up fascism. Who would of guessed...Ummm What did anyone expect from the state? Really now...
Has industry ever NOT raped the government till if given the chance? lol
I made a video a while ago expressing the gouging to be expected from this... it is nuts that people don't understand what is really on the table. Sad.
In all honesty though, I don't think it is correct to call a consenting act of prostitution "rape." Especially when it's the "victim" holding the most guns.
you should know by now, my thoughts on politicians... they are usually just saying what we want to hear... He is making it out that this health care reform isn't gonna cost tax dollars. That it's not about government taking over the health care industry. I haven't looked into this plan in depth. I do think that we need to do something about it, cause it's a HUGE problem. I honestly think they don't care, cause those companies line their pockets
