Awesome, nothing better than an old insane asylum, sadly we are losing one out here in CT, Norwich Insane Asylum, they are tearing it down, it is or, was 50+ buildings, check it out on youtube, it looks a lot like this one.
@AJBMP43 yeah i have a lot of friends out there so ive seen a lot of pix of norwich. sucks theyre tearing it down! and yeah, kirkbrides all look mostly alike. i think ive been in like like 4-6 of them.
My buddies and I got in a few times when we were in our teens. It looks exactly like the renovated areas, except run down. I stayed in the hospitality house for Munson for a while and it is the same structure and design as far as i can tell.
I love the fact that you guys get into some fantastic places....and I love the video...but man!...stop destroying things....kicking in doors, breaking windows etc...hey I am not preaching here I just would love you guys to respect the history whether its bad or good?...and respect the spirits still there....the vandalism is just senseless!...but keep up the good work other wise you offer us a look into the past...
It is like a shopping strip here now, no rush left... no point in going. the stories are nice, but if you want the rush then this is not the place to go.
they say you may end up with mesothelioma from going in there due to all the asbestos but in the early 90's my father was the foreman for a asbestos removal crew for the company called Delyle! My dad and his crew spent several months in all of the buildings on the property including the basements and there's nothing paranormal about anything here unfortunately. It is a pretty awesome set of buildings though!
This building has been renovated since 2006 when the video was posted. It now houses a high-end Italian eatery, a gallery of fashion and art shops, several "condominiums", a coffee shop, a bike accessories shop (pedal not metal), etc.
The last time I visited the campus was back in 02. I was a freshmen @ Northwestern. God that place scared the heck out of me. I was back up there last year and they are in the process of converting it into little shops. I have to admit i was dissapointed.Nevertheless it is still an awsome campus.
i got caught by security in building 50 last year, we got in through a basement window. we had to take the kick in the plywood becouse the borded up the usual entrance. probably wasnt a smart way to get in but it worked.
they just tried to scare us into not going in by saying we would die of disease. it was stupid, they probably know people go in every day. but whatever. nice vid
hate to tell you all its still possible to get in ive been inside almost every building there all very cool but every year it gets harder and harder to get in i love this place and cant imagine not being able to go there anymore
My friends and I got into building 34 a few weeks back. We had to be boosted up and then help the last guy in. Take a flashlight, but be careful how much you shine it because they have people who come and patrol.
Also, I've heard you can't take religious items inside without them being destroyed in some way, so feel free to check that out.
After we bought stuff in from the asylum in 88' we had a few garage sales to get rid of the stuff that wasn't antique. Kermit, a former patient, dressed in a vintage fireman's raincoat came to many of the sales looking for gosh knows what...Freaky Dude !
Back in 88'they had a silent bid auction. 3 of us bought 12 rooms full of stuff. We spent about a week hauling stuff & exploring buildings & tunnels. Wild times ! You could feel the grief in the air...
oh my god people i live right next to it it's not even running anymore-and it isnt an asylum it was a hospital with SUM mentel people in it-it's just a peice of crap now
you just described an asylum jack ass. my mother in law worked there. they called it the state hospital to try to p.c. their image. you should explore the tunnels underneath it. i hear theres one that leads to the junior high.
the one on main street. Its got a camera and has high fences around property. Need a big ladder r\to gain access of the in side. planning is a must since the 5o can see you cross into the back. once your back there your fine . It going to be razed soon through. good luck!!
i want to go there i live in tc on the east side. i hope they dont destroy it all as far as re newing it goes. ive heard many stories about it as far as insane people go.
"Trattoria Restaurant in the basement, which was the morgue" Wrong.... the morgue was on the far north end of the property, I have been in it. AQAU what would you have them do with it? Let if just fall down. Your lucky you dint fall through the floors making this. Ever hear of TRESPASSING!!!
Usha777, you seem to have a keen knowledge of the inner workings of the insane asylum... hmmmm, curious. That, paired with your apparent pent up anger indicates that maybe you were once a "resident" there. If not, well you should have been. As far as "trespassing" it's a damned good thing he did, to document this building before it gets "all shined up" is an important thing to do.
The place it totally normal. I've been to dinner in the restaurant, done lots of yoga in the center, there's nothing eery about the developed portions. It is completely renovated in those parts. The only thing haunting it might be the dead cow buried in the field.
People should not let superstitions fueled by schlocky horror movies devalue historic architecture. The boogeyman is only where you imagine him. These are majestic buildings. I have worked on the site for 5 years -- no ghost sightings!
Also, it should be noted that these videographers have documented themselves breaking the law and putting themselves at risk for injury. As an owner of the property, I can assure folks that we will prosecute trespassers.
Oh thevillagetc, lighten up. Look up the word karma, it doesn't say anything about Casper. I won't scare away any prospective tenants with my observations. If you are not aware of the energy that surrounds those buildings and lives within those walls, you are truly out of touch with your project. Sad. Try walking the halls of those buildings without your checkbook and blueprints in your hands. It's a magnificent place, and I don't mean that from a financial development point of view.
I wonder how many strange things will happen to the residents and business that move in there. That place has some serious karma. Even when you go to Stella's Trattoria Restaurant in the basement, which was the morgue, it's a surreal experience. I love that is it being preserved. But I wouldn't want to live there!

but maybe thats just me lol

lonelyboy03 3 years ago
I think its pretty dumb that their renovating it now.. It's losing its spooky zeal :p
martin8771 3 years ago
id rather see them renovate it.
it was falling apart, it would have fallen down by now if they didnt fix the roof.
its an important part of state history. we might lose it as an explorable building, but at least itll stand for another 100 years or so.
between you and i, im bummed that i cant explore it anymore too.
lol
