  • Rock is super nervous and I have no idea what the fuck is going on with a documentary about hair??????????

  • the ad is fucking funny lol

  • omg. jian is making chris really uncomfortable

  • And become a bit it did.

  • OMG ITS JUST HAIR!!!!!

  • you know

  • I love Chris Rock, but this is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!!!!!!!!!!................................ and the movie is VERY STUPID, VERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... damn it...

  • I think black people want their hair like that because they like that hairstyle. Overanalysing it and saying they want it to be more european is the thing that just creates that segregation in the first place. I think racism today is mostly caused by people who complain about it. Most of us don't care, and we don't want to be constantly reminded that they are different.

  • @JordanWebster07 Some people don't care. We kinda still do because we have to. Its in our heritage. The older generation had an idea of what "pretty" was. And it was white. Always. So there were few things they could change, other than their hair through painful chemicals and expensive tools. Those same women made their daughters endure it until today when they have the choice. But its hard to take it when grandma criticizes you for not perming your hair. I learned that from my sisters.

  • its also interesting to watch the people in the room around him become afraid to talk about what he said. or even just accept it... i can understand him trying to high light the uncomfortable level in the room. his statement dost seem to me like something so hard to agree with? did i just learn something about american culture?

  • its refreshing to here someone explain it as and see it for what it is "insanity" i just gained 100% more understanding and respect for chris rock.

  • i love how he's stating his point about white people even after the interview was over

  • lmao..."thats white people taking a vacation"

  • fascinating

  • chris is rite about the white people and the racist thing.

  • Shame though that he is so intoxicated. Chris Rock is a very sharp observer and commentator, it's sad to see him in this state.

  • @beachjoel Huh?

  • @colornine84

I'm no expert on drugs, but he is on something, that's pretty obvious.

  • @beachjoel Dumbest thing i've read all day.

  • I love both of these guys but this interview was terrible.

  • @aha45 ... I completely disagree. This was an amazing interview. These questions were invasive and wildly uncomfortable for Chris. That is great journalism.

Look at how many times Chris puts his hands behind his back, or scratches his chin, or rubs the top of his head. All signs of anxiety and nervousness, about how to answer the question. He was in no way prepared for these tough questions, about race, (which is all his movie pretty much focused on, oddly enough.)

    What a chicken.

  • @Huntington1234567

Well first of all, I wouldn't say that making a subject uncomfortable is great journalism (though it may be a sign the interviewer is asking the right stuff). Too often journalists/tv people confuse being rude and obnoxious for firm and probing.

But anyway, I say it was a bad interview because Chris Rock was so evasive. He didn't really answer anything or open up. To me, that's a bad interview.

  • @Huntington1234567 To be able to get on camera and speak out against the insanity and denial of reality that is racism in the most racist intolerant godforsaken hellhole on the face of the planet where a human life is devalued based on his physical attributes is one of the bravest things anyone could do.

  • seems like chris rock doesn't know anything. every other answer is "i dunno" "you know"

  • Chris rock is right: going to the ice rink in summer would be cool!

  • "I'll shake dis WEAVE out cho head!"

  • He is one of the Comedians that don't have to be funny to entertain me, I just love to listen to him!!!

  • WOW!, i can't never seem to stop being surprised when i find that blacks in the US are the most racist people in the world, I am black and this just makes me sad to see this obsession with "black & white" no wonder it'l never end, this nigga is helping it stay alive

  • i hate to say this as a white guy, but Chris Rock is right, hahahaha

  • @yourmajezty why? you're not a WHITE guy, you're a guy that's white

  • if chris rock cant answer many if the ques. why in the hell did he go on the interview. dumb monkey

  • started going bald at around twenty. How some people react to hair is truly funny.

Definatly checking out the documentary, bet it's hill-hair-ious.

  • whats q tv?

  • Love the out-takes at the end. I love watching Chris Rock grow and get better through the years. He was always brilliant and insightful, now his intelligence is more evident. Can't wait to see "progress" show up as a future segment in his act!

  • i thought jian had clearly really prepared for this interview and chris came in looking quite tired from the promotion or whatever. it happens. i thought he still said a few interesting things, i might check the film out.

  • The men do have them. It reminds me of a Lil' Wayne song "no short haired girls."

  • This interview was like a chemistry experiment that fizzled out

    weird vibe

  • i love chris

  • Lol Chris is high as a kite.

  • i fucking can't stand the interviewer

comes across like a fucking loser

  • @inspectahdeck77 Wether he is a loser or not he has a sweet job.

  • I certainly hope this doc is actually entertaining. After watching this interview I have zero desire to see it. Chris Rock basically pulled a Billy Bob....Those Americans just keep on keeping on ...........

  • Normally I enjoy Jian's interviewing style. Here, however, he can't seem to get away from the topic of hair or the movie about hair. Did Chris Rock's agent forbid Jian from asking him anything else? A pretty bland interview, no?

  • @sjsully Chris rock was in Canada promoting the film 'Good Hair' hence while Jian's questions centred around the topic of Hair (and really he just brought up points that were highlighted in the film). Honestly though, I LOVE Christ Rock, and i loved the film on a personal level but he gave a HORRIBLE interview. Almost as though he was exhausted promoting the film and just didn't want to get into a deep discussion about it.

  • @sjsully On a side note, I find that whenever American entertainers are interviewed by CBC journalists they tend to be taken aback by the 'hard-hitting' well researched questions. Like their used to just answer bullshit, and as a result sometimes give horrendous interviews.

  • @sjsully He's asking him about his work. It is relevant. What's wrong with that if it is interesting and Chris Rock wants to continue answering the questions?

  • Is it me, or does Chris seem to be really tired - or rather, tired of of being interviewed? If Sundance was in Feb and now it's Oct, he's logged a lot of miles & time talking about his movie. He must have answered the same questions about 1000x by now.

I have reservations on how this sensitive subject will be treated on film, but I still want to see it. I've been tracking the release date - still not in my city & I don't see a date on IMDB.

  • oops i gave u a hands down by mistake.

    I totally agree with you.

chris seemed extremely uncomfortable in this interview.

  • lol - no worries on the 'oops'

Those press junkets are murder. But Jian usually does a better job too - look 4 his interview with Clark Johnson

I missed the theatrical release. My library has the dvd now. I've reserved a copy (everyone, get a library card)

  • Jian does a great job, even with Chris. But I think his questions were far too dense!

I just saw his interview with Kevin Smith, great stuff! They were both like, right here in the moment!

  • Thanks for the recommend on the K.Smith interview. Having gifted Jay & Silent Bob fridge magnets, will def check it out.

veering off topic: if you want a laugh, search: david cross, morning djs.

  • haha, he said "Jain" wrong.

    Great interview.

  • I can't wait to see this documentary. Chris Rock rocks!

  • Hockey kicks basketballs ASS, even though both were invented by Canadians.

  • As a Canadian, of course I love hockey. But a few years ago I started watching basketball, and now that is all I watch. I find it much more entertaining.

  • a pretty neutral question turned ugly by misinterpretation. that whole no eye contact thing at the end wasn't jian's fault at all.

  • its funny how chris makes it seem like jian said how has america "progressed" when he clearly said "changed" Chris insulted himself and seemed to blame it on jian

  • he didnt insult himself. in this context, change and progress mean the same thing to me too.

  • @KobeJames9876

I thought the question was pretty benign, change and progress are two different things.

  • @jesserai

yeah, you mentioned that you think that already. wut good did it do to repeat yourself?

  • Ok then, how do you see progress and change as the same word? given the context in which the question was asked It doesn't appear as if Jian is implying progressed. When Chris says a thing like "progressed?...progressed?!" it seems to me he thinks Jian really did SAY progressed and not change with a between the lines meaning of progressed.

  • hes just explaining the meaning behind his answer.

-jian asked how has america changed

-chris says white people are less crazy

-chris then explains that, basically, the reality isnt so much that black people are progressing (like how most people phrase it), but that white people are regressing in their beliefs that they are better and more capable than other races (i.e. less crazy).

so chris obviously wasnt replacing "change" with "progress" like u thought. u just misheard him or somthin...

  • I think you and Chirs misheard what was said but what ever, "How has the nation changed?" got turned into "how have black people progressed?".

  • haha no, i just gave you an outline of wut was said...

  • On the point of owning "stuff," what might not be clear from this interview is how much money African Americans are paying into an industry that has a lot of whites and Asians profiting from it. Something like $9 billion a year! His criticism of integration is a common one, that the unanticipated down side has been the loss of black-owned businesses. That's why there are efforts to support black entrepreneurship, to build African-American jobs and wealth.

  • He's been dancing around the politics of this film in one interview after another. It's like when Jonathan Ross of BBC asked about him saying in his act that he doesn't like n-----s, he shrugged it off as just being jokes. But he's too smart for that. In this interview he was a lot more comfortable talking about white craziness (well put, too), so I wonder if it's discomfort over criticizing other African Americans. I'm sure that's tough, but I wish he'd say what he needs to and stand behind it.

  • Pathetic that a self proclaimed artist doesn't even have the balls to stand behind his own film. Jian was pulling teeth to get him to give an opinion about his own film!

Rock is so shallow and obsessed with money he would rather the Civil Rights movement had been about "owning things"...? What?

Too scared of being a target to take a stand Chris?

"He that loveth his life shall lose it"

  • this is just awkward. i almost feel sorry for chris rock. he seriously seems far too uncomfortable being in the presence of jian. don't get me wrong, jian is a great journalist, but this interview was not great whatsoever! almost as awkward as the billy thornton interview

  • I think Jian took Chris seriously enough. Maybe even a little too seriously; some of the questions were a little too hard-hitting/gouging I think, which make Chris seem a little awkward.

I really liked his last point about progress, however.

  • this really pisses me off

  • elaborate please

  • this is ridiculous. so chris rock is suggesting this movie is about black women wanting european hair dos..just because they want it. why waste your time, we already know this. a whole film dedicated to a trend and he's not willing to give a reason to it? love how he belittles martin luther kings efforts aswell by saying we should own something and not being part of something. i think that movement was a pretty decent success.

  • indian women wanna be light and thin like bollywood actresses...not like white women at all. arab women want nosejobs and to be light as well. rich men like light skinned women...thats why. there are plenty of tanned, brown, and light brown girls in bollywood too. white women get tans...not cuz they wanna be southern european or arab or whatever.....

  • way to promote your movie, dumb ass! what a shitty interview.

    wtf

  • Bitter?

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • Is it me or does Jian seem to be trying to get him to make some jokes?

I love Jian and his interviews but it seems like he almost expects this to be a funny interview and Chris Rock wants it to be serious. He looks a little pissed @ times when Jian tries to add humour

  • Well when you're interviewing someone who views himself as an "artist of comedy"...you'd hope he'd be naturally funny. Chris rock struggles when he can't whip out racial innuendo's...

  • There's no need to be funny, it's an interview. Duh!!

  • ok interview.

  • wow, to think i could be watching '80s videos instead of this! See ya!!!!

  • 80% of hair costs in america are from black people.

that seems like a stat from thin air.

CIA world factbook says 79.96% of america is white and 12.85% black.

there are plenty of white ladies who love to induldge in their hair

  • Yes, white women indulge in their hair. The majority of them do not buy weaves to the degree that black women do. Hope this answers your question.

  • Is it just me or was Jian sweating buckets at the end of the interview?

  • hot lights prob

  • fuck yeaa love QTV!

  • i liked the behind the scenes view they should of shot that way threw the whole interview. thanks Q and jim ahhaha

  • He always thinking about your next bit.

  • Chris Rock is very funny, but not especially smart.

  • not true

  • I disagree. I think he played with Jian in this interview. He has opinions on many things, I'm sure. But he's not about to be a political and racial target by talking openly in interviews.

I get what you're saying. I just think he was purposely holding back to avoid even more controversy than what the film will already accomplish.

  • You are very wrong. One must be exceedingly intelligent to deliver his kind of comedy/social commentary they way that he does.

  • maybe not especially smart but he isn't an idiot either.

he seems to have a very good grasp of people (duh, comedian) and is very grounded as far as what he needs to say to be understood.

  • chris kinda seemed like he was biting his tongue a bit..up until the last 5 minutes of course lol

  • Chris rock has such a cute baby face.
