This is nice, short and simple. I like to duplicate this layer and mask out the background so that I'm only distorting the body, then I can worry about filling in the background underneath. That way you avoid the "Oh so obvious" Liquify look where the background elements get distorted where they shouldn't. Maybe you could segue into advanced techniques as the videos progress?

This was a great "quick" tut... thanks!  I guess people needs to remember that PS is best used to make people look "natural" unless you are trying for an art effect... I call it "altered reality" when I PS my friends and family... making it look "real" can be challenging... but I love it when they don't have a clue I've done something, they are just pleased with how good they look!

I find it hard to slim someone down when you get to the area of the upper body (shoulders mostly) because if I do nothing it looks really weird (like in the psd in this video) and if I try to shirnk them it distorts the whole upper body. What can I do or how can I do it?

i recommend removing the "target" of your fattening from the background before using the liquify-tool, and then put it back to the background when you're done. That way you won't mess up the background. It might be hard to put it back if you've been using the tool to make someone skinnier, but it works for some occasions, and if it doesn't you can always use a different background.
