It's HSM but not the ring-type MF override type. It's just more silent than the Canon version, which is a bit louder and slower (it always adjusts slowly before it confirms focusing).
really shouldnt put ur lens on like that. more likely to get dust in the camera. have the camera facing downwards and put lens on. i know it seems like it only takes a couple seconds, but itll take alot more time trying to clean it if say some dandruff, or booger, or a bird shit into ur camera lol
The HSM is only slow in the dark or when you have the lens cap on like he did on his demonstration. You will find all lenses will be "slow" or cannot focus with the lens cap on, it is not within the Focusing range, which for this lens somewhere around 14" and beyond
