  • uhh @ynkjeter that is wrong because he did the harmonic on accident and it sounded really good with the rest of the solo. watch any live performance there is no harmonic there. it was on accident and he is laughing because of how good it sounded. Thumbs up if your a muse fan and you've seen them play this live and know what im talking about

  • @nabaseball4 You're correct in the sense of he did it by accident and thought it sounded better. He was probably laughing at how cheesy it sounded though, how very "80's" it was. Also, don't ask for thumbs up like that - it makes you look like a pretentious fool.

  • Did no-one read the top comment?

It's the fast run which is almost totally out of place with anything Matt's ever done (it's probably the fastest run on any of Muses recorded stuff) that suprisingly works so well. It was also an improvised solo, and that was the first take. They were laughing in success (and a bit of "That was weird, but really good!").

  • Haha! Matt's chuffed little smile in the left video when he gets through that little run up! :D

  • "Ima do a little something like...eh... this. Woah, that was pretty cool" lol

  • oh my God,this guy is a pure GENIUS...Unbeliveable..so much talent in one person..

  • does he really did pinch harmonics?? or it was just his fernandes sustainer?? i need a guiding light to answer this

  • @kikiwew just a pinch harmonic

  • this EPIC laugh always!!! :D

  • How amazing is Muse? just give them credit for the genius and awesome talent they have! no one could do what they do!

  • That harmonic wasnt planned. But when it happened, made it sound so sick. That's why they laughed (:

  • I think they're laughing because the harmonic kicked in at the most perfect time and it wasn't even planned. It wasn't a pinch harmonic. You hear the note is normal at start, but the Fernandez Sustainer brought in the harmonic so beautifully and they didn't expect it to happen that way.

  • After the pinch harmonic, He looked up and had a very serious look on him and others saw it and probably made him laugh for some reason xD. That's why :L

  • I dont get why you are all talking about the pinch harmonic ...?? He nailed it..

  • is this recording of Resistance cd somewhere to get? and how's the recording of Absolution called? i cant find it

  • @nikeid9 it's called the making of absolution. It was available for a limited time with absolution. But it's impossible to find anymore. And yeah, this is on the making of the resistance, i'm pretty sure.

  • the laughter (right and left) start at the same time xDDDD

  • This man is absolutely incredible ! He can laugh while he's recording the final version of this solo for the resistance album :-) !

  • oh yeah, and this account (for reference to the reply to topcat2726) is also ynkjeter

  • Lol, my sister has a chair like that

  • @TheMaggot14 She's lucky that she can imagine herself that close to Matt's bum.

  • Looks epic being played, makes appreciation to the riff a must!

  • Is it me or we can really hear matt's laugh on the record ?!

  • 1 person is a zombie.

  • I want to have sex with the red glitterati!!

  • I think he gave that look because he probably screwed up a couple times on the shred part and then on that cut he nails it.

  • i want to be a cleaner there just to meet the muse

  • This kind of things are reserved for the genius....Matt is one of them.

  • The strange "PPPFFIIIIIIII" at the back ruins this song D,:

  • Haha i love the fact that matt hits a pinch note and is shocked by his own awesomeness xD

  • While he is making the riff he does something that he didn't expect so his face is like: "WTF did you see that?!" and he makes a funny face.. so when he looks back at the video he laughs 4 this reason!!

    :D MUSE 4EVER

  • Painfully epic shredness

  • guys he laughes because at the end of the solo he make a funny face at the camera

  • no matter how "commercial" they'll go in the future, i deeply believe MUSE will be a band that will never sell out and I'll be able to show it to my grand kids and say "that was how WE rolled back then!"

  • Dom give me your shirt ,please. You have stolen my wings. ;-)

    WTF great solo Matt!

  • WTF GUITAR !!??? :P

  • The one that voted thumbs down has been killed by that armonic

  • i remember first time i nailed this solo...it gave me butterflies...

  • Can't stop watching him laugh lmao

  • 0:15 O.o

  • now I can't listen to this song without having the laugh in my head.... I love my life

  • farewell glitterati Manson :-(

  • pinch harmonics ARENT really hard to do - and they're laughing because of the pure awesomeness of the solo and the fact that he did such a sick run... theres no humor... its just what happens when you're a musician and you lay down a beastly riff - this happens too all musicians... you just laugh when you play something magical. thumbs up if you're a musician and know what i'm saying... because it IS the reason he's laughing

  • @ynkjeter yeah i completely agree... people were sayin its coz its cheesy but wen i 1st watched the dvd with this part on it, it was the 1st time i heard the song and i cracked up laughin as well.. wen u kno ur certain capabilities as a musician and u pull somethin off like that u cant do anythin but laugh =P. and weve neva heard matt playin stuff like this be4 the Resistance. It was just epic!

  • @ynkjeter i agree dude

  • @ynkjeter thumbs up for sure, you sum it up exactly, i remember back when i started palying guitar 7 months ago the 1st few times i finally hit muse bits that gave me fits, i busted out laughing in the middle of playing and even now when i do my own stuff ill still laugh when i do something sick xD

  • @ynkjeter

Pretty sure they're laughing at the face he makes after nailing the riff.

  • @ynkjeter Thats exactly what i was saying to my friend. excluding the thumbs up.. Though i guess he could have given me a real thumbs up!

  • @ynkjeter yeah, he's laughing cause in the half he's actually playing the riff he gets the pinch harmonic perfect

  • @ynkjeter Hes not laughing cause he did a sick job. That comes naturally to him. He's laughing because it's sooo cheesy.

  • @ynkjeter And he knew it as soon as he played it too....

  • @ynkjeter its quite hard to get it that perfect and natural sounding after a quick run to be fair. i know the solo like the back of my hand but that harmonic does still stump me sometimes.

  • @topcat2726 its definitely hard to get that entire solo perfect/natural sounding, that's for sure, but it sounds like you're implying the harmonic is what is so difficult to pull off - i am by no means a virtuoso like matt , or even a great guitarist, but i'm not bad either, and i can honestly say i have no problem hitting that harmonic after the run in the solo (though i sometimes struggle making the run sound that amazing!) - his laugh isn't him reacting to the harmonic alone, i'm sure of it

  • @nick22samm i dunno, because he never does the harmonic live or at least ive never seen it. i find the run easy but the harmonic tricky lol! we are obviously very different style guitarists. i get ready for the harmonic before the actual run because i know i'll get the run right haha!

  • @ynkjeter I think they're laughing at the silly face he pulled right at the camera after the run no?

  • @ynkjeter I've been wondering this for a while, and it's not that he's laughing, it's how hard he's laughing

  • wait! i don't get it :( someone please explain D:

  • @kuul25 He accidentally plays a pitch harmonic when he would have just been playing a straight note/chord. If you listen the the live version of the song there's no pitch harmonic so we're assuming that's the cause of their humour.

  • @LukeJamesHorton oh.. thanks! :D

  • aha his face on the left screen at 00:17 aha!

  • Why is Matt laughing?

    hahaha

  • @ihsanfauzi He accidentally hit a pinch harmonic, which are really hard to do. (I say it was accidental because he doesn't play it in live versions, he just plays it straight)

  • @haggis855 Well....thats not very hard to do xD

  • @Illidan123456789 Well in that case, he just didn't mean to then.

  • Bells, are you HONESTLY surprised you could nail that on the first try? Are you not AWARE of you pure GENIUS? (this is assuming that is the reason they laughed, otherwise I do not know, and love it anyways) :D

  • @robynbird28 if the dude was aware of having pure genius, I don't think anybody would like the guy

  • yeah thats awesome but not really a riff...

  • why they laugh?

    i didn't understand >.<"

  • DAYUM! What is that chord that Matt is playing at 0:42? That looks like such a pain to do but it sounds neato! =D

  • @C0NEZ0NE hey C0NE, it is a G# Chord (just like the standard G, just everything one fret higher) and his pinky is playing the note e on the G-string, but don't ask me for the exact name, should be something like G#??? :D

  • Matt Bellamy is a discussed guitar player. I consider him my favourite of all time, over any other.

    Well:

He has his own sytles and prefered techniques. Like the tapping. Compared to every other living guitar player Matt gets a good 8,5/10 for that. He recently plays lot of tapping live, like in Plug In Baby. He doesnt stop improving.

His one overall surpreme ability to me though is his right hand. You can see pure perfection of having a very loose, percet playing hand...

  • @SaintUdnitz I wouldn't label him my favourite guitarist of all time, but he is my favourite musician of all time :D

And his right hand is awesome, like in the solo for this! The scalic bit at the end and his tremolo picking on that unison bend... I hate his talent :P

  • @MuffinWithAnAxe yeah dude ^^

  • @SaintUdnitz his tapping while using the kaoss pad (particularly in the live @ milan version) in invincible is absolutely amazing

  • 0:34 Drum solo!

  • they're laughing at that harmonic, whether it was a pinch or from his sustainer it wasn't intended. You can tell look at his surprised face on the left as he plays it. I don't think it was supposed to happen as every live version he doesn't do it.

  • I think it was just the face he was pulling while he played :p

  • he's god

  • every time i listen to this song on my ipod or somethin, i always find myself smiling at the guitar riff part cause i always think bout that adorable laugh matt does at 00:19 :D

  • wtf? i dont hear whats wrong or why they're laughing? :P but it sounds so fucking nice :D the laugh :D

  • @YouSWETube I think that they're laughing at how ugly matt is when he plays, he does some weird facial expression. And he's incredibly ugly in that beard, and looks a tad bit like chin-chan (look it up on encyclopedia dramatica).

  • @1tanterhetaida2 haha yeah maybe:P

  • Wow, is this the real muse guitarplayer?

  • @ManuelLogan yes, matt bellamy.

  • which is the effects that matt uses here?

  • Guiding light SOLO

  • i love the success laugh at 0:19, and tom at 0:33 xD

  • He's actually laughing cause he didn't mean to hit a pinch harmonic at the end of the scale, it was spontaneous and random, that's why he laughs. Coz live he never does the harmonic, well that's my opinion anyway :)

  • @Drigzy That makes sense, because it's a hard one to get after doing that fast lick

  • @Drigzy but i think they kept the harmonic on the CD lol i think it actually suits that part really well.

  • @Hardboi01 Yeh its badass i think thats why it just stayed in recording :D

I just havent heard matt play it live, the harmonic surely was a stroke of luck on the recording?

  • @Drigzy yea sure was... im glad they kept it lol

  • @Drigzy Nah, he plays it pretty well live as well :)

  • @Goof245 i've heard it played live twice and both solos were ace but no pinch harmonic on either :S

  • @Drigzy Ok, what's the pinch harmonic?

  • @Drigzy It wasn't spontaneous by any means, it was just accidental. That harmonic was caused by Matt accidentally hitting the "Harmonic mode" mini-toggle switch for the sustainer pickup, which causes the pickup to create (usually) a 5th harmonic. He laughed because he realized what happened on the playback and thought it was funny.

  • @xHighPotencyx well tbh i didnt really need a specific run through of how it occured im just saying it wasnt meant to happen and it still sounded good :)

  • @xHighPotencyx that's right.

    no "sustainer" accidental switch though.

it was matts awesome talent! it does happen accidentally lots of times (it did to me while random playing) in this particular one, it created an awesome solo.

the best muse solo to my mind (invinsible comes second, but this one, without whammys, tapping, or else effects (just WILD distortion) gave me the chills x10000)

  • @RamiroHF really? :D show us! put out a video on it! :D

  • AWESOME VIDEO

  • i think he laughed because he realized how ridiculous and over-the-top the solo was. i thought it was perfect for the theme of the song.

  • j'adore quand il fait son petit réglage vite fait à 0:21 op' XD

  • Fucking amazing!!!

  • Definitely the best MUSE solo ever! in my humble opinion that is. i love the way that guitar screams in pain

  • @81Kain

    Best Muse solo ever? wtf?

  • Yeah in my humble opinion it is. i'm a fan, i know pratically every solo they made but FOR ME this is best.

  • Sure, we all have an opinion...

But I think Hysteria or Invicible are way better :P

  • every newborn solo live is the best! its different , guiding light is just queeny ,,,,

  • fuckin love this solo!

  • lol Chris behind Matt, laying on the sofa ^^

  • I've heard this song over and over, and the solo still gives me goosebumps. Incredible!

  • matt bellamy's most awesome riff i've ever watched! :))

  • omg Manson Glitterati!!! the best guitar i've ever seen T________________T

    love the laugh xD

  • Matt can shred now! X-D

  • Haha, love the laugh!

  • Omg i just noticed Matt's sitting in the same kind of seat as I'm sitting in at the moment! :D

  • i can't do that at 0:15 :( he's really great ^^

  • 0:15 is sick

  • Yeah, their laughing at the fluked harmonic

  • solo:)

  • lol laughing at the pure cheesyness!

  • @zm177 are u sure? xP

  • Judging by the Converse shoes on someone's feet, I'm gonna guess that the person on the couch is Chris.

  • It is Chris, you can see his face.

  • Thanks for the upload! :)

  • Amazing Matt!j envy your skills and your "job"!..what a great way to work!!!

    ps totally agree with iamleeboyle!

  • that was sick! cant wait for BDO 10'

  • they were laughing at the daftness of it all !

  • they were laughin at the face matt pulled at 0:18 when playin the solo

  • Actually, he was laughing at the fact he hit a harmonic on the last note of the scale accidentally, because live he doesn't do it, meaning it must've been just spontaneous, and worked ;)

  • @Drigzy really? And what's a harmonic?

  • @kamuse90 the high pitched squeal you heard :)

  • LOL matts legendary laugh at 0:19

  • it is actually the fact that matt was doing an "80's hair metal solo :P" or stuff. that's what they wanted to do anyways, and it is the SHIIIIT :)

  • @RamiroHF

I actually find it quite cool you fucker

  • @RamiroHF Right, but listen, it's not just "an 80's hair metal solo", it's veery close to Brian May's sound (wich, of course it's damn hard to emulate). I think Muse is the most Queen influenced band nowadays (In a very good way! Knights Of Cydonia, US Eurasia, Exogenesis, Uprising...), and the best band now in 2010... Rock on

  • i love how they are all surprised at just how cool that guitar solo was!

  • The fact that matt just pulled of a sick little lick

  • What were they laughing at halfway through? xD
