I know the 82 men who survived the capture suffered hell, and those alive still do, Nightmares, stress, poor health.... and the knowledge that their own country failed to life up to the promises they made when they set Pueblo off to sail. The promise that help would be only minutes away..... No help ever came. Men were ready on carriers and other ships and airbases, but no word came for them to go get Buchers men from the Cold hands of the brutal DPRK.
who wrote this??? notice the Hawaiian sign of friendship @ 4:23 and 5:23 when the N. Koreans eventually found out the real meaning of the middle finger they beat them more brutally than usual... nice guys these Koreans... Read Bucher's book..
If NK wants to improve relations with the USG it ought to show intent by releasing USS PUEBLO. I would like to see the USS PUEBLO docked next to USS MIDWAY in SAN DIEGO as a memorial to the crew of the USS PUEBLO and others who undertake covert missions on behalf of the USG.
Apart from the ABC TV play, ARRL QST magazine presented the situation from the point of hams in the crew. They looked at bamboo cubical quad RADAR antennas, talked about DX but stands out for me was how crew remembered Church service. Words hard remembered. No minister. Simple Sacrements. I'm a Lay Minister and we had to put together a Morning Service lacking a Rector. You guys are my inspiration. GRACE Peter, WB2SGT
I lived in Pueblo, Colorado at the time of its capture and remember the headline "USS PUEBLO CAPTURED" on the front page of the Pueblo Star Journal. Believe it or not, there are people making plans to bring it to CO if it ever gets back into US custody. I read Commander Bucher's book and would like any opinions of what others thought of it. The crew went through hell.
@generalripper1964 yes, I read it back when it came out in 73... they probably shouldn't have been that close in with no nearby chance of support.. his discriptions and how he tried to kill himself in his cell are graphic... the Korean's are truly bastards..
You had to have met and worked under CDR Bucher. Pete was the real stuff, no hoypaloy, no holier than thou, no crap, he was an enlisted man's officer. Against incredible odds he saved 82 lives. The KORCOMS were out to shoot to kill. A leaky, over loaded 12 knot boat, the Navy's finest..!!! I am one of those he saved.
The poem itself, not to mention the official letter sent to North Korea by the government, show that EVERYONE spies on each other. No government can say now that they don't spy. Oh well, I still love the U.S. but North Korea was pretty much correct in capturing the ship.
Yeah, there was. Go look at documentaries having to do with this situation, even discover and the history channel have mentioned this. VBSTV's website has a documentary, the vice guide to north korea, has a part where they mention it.
@wingedsoul Sorry, but you are looking at some of the North Korean forgery materials. There was not letter sent to North Korea by the United States govermnment. I have seen all the VICE segments. Shane Smith did a great job. The only bloody reporter type to go to NK and get it. The whole bloody place is a giant mirage.
Can't understand why no else has not commented. These guys were left out to dry on thier own. The poem is great, wish that I had heard it years ago and the photos tie in great.

Due to my poor judgement and ignorance; there will be a moratorium
on my internet comments until I have educated myself about the
Pueblo Incident.

Thank You for your service.
I stand corrected and humbled. I was not there and you were, and served
with this Man. It must have been something I read somewhere. I have heard
tha he was a "Sailors Sailor". When I am wrong, I am wrong.
Please accept my apologise.

@4405486 Thanks for the note.
The note our crew sent to Pete during the Court of Inquiry said it all.
Captain, We started this together, we will finish it together,
Signed,
Bucher's Bastards.
That was in February 1969. We are still finishing it, regretably without our Captain.
tnx agn & 73's,

I repaired Teletype Machines and did field maintainance on KG-13 and
KW-7 Crypto Machines. I have run into the XO a couple of times, I like him;
I have not heard to many good things about Bucher. See what I think, after
the video.
