ALL GM CARS, ESPECIALLY THE IMPALA AND MALIBU SUCK. FOR ITS EIZE AND WEIGHT, IT SHOULD HAVE BIGGER BACK SEAT. ITS UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE AND RIDE IN. INTERIOR IS AS CHEAP AND FRAGILE AS EVER. THE ENGINE POWER IS A JOKE, AS IS THE SLOPPY SUSPENSION WHICH MAKES IT FLOAT, AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY. THESE CARS ARE RENTALS FOR A REASON!!!!!!!
CHEVY'S ARE MADE TO BE RELIABLE>> NOT OVER THE TOP STYLISH >> LESS TO FIX >> IF YOU GOT A CHEVY IN YOUR YARD >> BEST BELIEVE IT WILL START RIGHT UP COLD OR HOT WEATHER>> & THE INSIDE LOOKS SOMEWHAT LIKE A CADI>> THE GRILL SUCKS BAD = (
@jherskine maybe you should have done homework on the Impala first and you would have known that the first year of the rounded impala they only had optional ABS. (hint : you car came standard with OnStar so if you didnt have it it was a rental or fleet car)
Good fuel mileage - good ride quality - low level of NVH for an entry level car - good durability - good standard safety features like OnStar, side airbags, SC, TC and ABS on newer Impalas.. The ergonomics (spelling??) of the impala are ok but the interrior isnt much better looking in the top end LTZ trim than it is in the base LS trim... which makes NO sence at all. Why would you put a flat-black dash pad and power door switches in EVERY color and trim level impala?
these people make me puke. it handles awfully, the cup holders are a joke (there is only 2, and they only fit small drinks, and if you put a small drink the center console is in the way of you picking them up), the exhaust sounds like the car is chewing sand, you have to bleed the power in, and even then, the second it thinks there is a loss of traction under hard accleration it cuts engine power, the suspension is a joke, the interior looks and feels cheap, and it feels overpriced. imprezas ftw
@poserskaterboy cup holder in my impala can hold 12-24 oz soda and energy drink cans i buy. 16-20 oz bottles. It even holds HUGE quart (32oz) sodas from the gas station or quarts of chocolate milk i get sometimes on trips. I will say that the exhaust sound on the GM 3.1 and this car are close.... as for TC kicking in - turn it off when you want to play and replace those crappy goodyear tires that came on it with some good michelin touring tires on it - big diff in ride and traction
@poserskaterboy wait a minute dude, its a fuking family sedan/ grocery/ grandma car its not a fucking sports car by any means, i drove my dads rented 2010 impala while hes 2004 impala is on the body shop and i amazed by the ride quality , fuck i own a 92 firebird and it feels really nice for once not to feel every fucking crack on the road, did i mention its roomy as all hell inside that car. U cant really compare this car to something like an impreza.
I have had a '06 Chevrolet Impala LT since May '09, and I am so underwhelmed by it, I just bought a '07 Honda Accord EX-L V6. My Impala did not come with the optional antilock brakes, so the brakes lock up and the car skids in emergency braking situations. The Accord has four wheel anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution, so it stops in a much shorter distance than the Impala. The Accord kicks the shit out of the Impala in every way except two: trunk space and AUX plug on the radio.
07 LTZ owner, Dark tinted windows, CCFL projector headlights... love it, would love to see a more aggressively designed impala in the future with a v8 or seriously tuned v6...
We go a 2004 Impala, ex-rental in the fall of '05, with 12k miles on it, and it's now its still with us at 130k. Its been the most reliable car we've ever had. The only problems we've experienced are damaged moldings, results of low curbs and frozen puddles (don't ask) a blown fuse in the rear defroster, and some minor, ocaisional problems with the dash. It has been abused by teenaged sons, and still, no ticks, rattles, anything. It certainly looks its age, but doesn't feel it. One tough car!!!!
You know, with GM declaring bankruptcy, they should take the oppertunity to make the Impala rear-wheel drive, put more V8 variants in them, and make them sports sedans to compete with the Chargers.
I don't exactly appreciate the interior overhaul...mainly because it has no options and doesn't offer much in way of amentities. The grill doesn't bother me at all, and if anything, looks professional. I kind of wish it were rear-wheel drive and could come in larger engine sizes (like the equivalent to the G8 GT or Camaro). More power is never a bad thing
I agree that the VW company has upped its game in the past few years, but I guess I look at the Impala as an American icon that will never get old. I'll admit I'm bias towards American cars, but do appreciate the value and reliability of other foreign cars just as much.
They're both very reliable. Both have got 5 star quality ratings from JD. But then, all other things favor the Passat.
Furthermore, the styling of Impala just doesn't feel right. I hated the old one and this new one is nothing special. I don't know what the designer wanted to say with it's front grill, if you can call it a grill, but it seems he styled it not becuase he wanted. He styled it, because he had to.
Passat looks more like a premium car and the CC version is just gorgeous.

MESSAGE TO GM:
Step 1:
Take Malibu 6 Speed trany
Step 2:
Replace 4 Speed in Impala with the same 6 Speed
Step 3:
Stop taking money from the Gov't, we all knew you would have do declare bankruptcy anyway
BTW; Have a 09 LTZ Impy, beside some minor complaints (could be fixed with a minor refresh) it is amazing, buy one!
