"Stereotypes don't have power over a people when the people in the stereotypes embrace tham and laugh at them."
I disagree. A stereotype exists by virtue of being a common yet unrepresentative generalization of a whole. Whether or not you embrace it doesn't make it less common, nor does is make it less of a generalization.
It's like arguing that the more you use a cliche, the less cliched it will become. It's the complete opposite.
I have nothing against the GLBT community, but I read the comic's preview pages and it's filled to the brim with stereotypes. That's not way to represent anyone or anything.
Hey thanks for your comment! Believe it or not this comic and it's main character Psyche are based on my own personal life. So as gay acting as he is in the comics, I am more so in real life. Haha. So being an LGBT person this comic does represent myself and quite a few people I know. If we can't laugh at ourselves then there is seriously something wrong with us. :) Everyone in the LGBT community that has read my cutesy comic so far has loved it. Yay!
You use the term "gay acting." What does that really mean? Being gay only means being attracted to the same sex, yes? I'm straight, but I don't "act straight." I don't watch porn every night, guzzle beer, go to WWE matches and arm-wrestle my motorcycle-driving weapons-loving military friends.
I don't think there is any way I will be able to win with you. It seems you are looking for a fight that doesn't exist. Everyone who has read my comic has been able to see the humor and joy in it, as a gay man I embrace my stereotypes and laugh at them and love them. As does the LGBT website Prism Comics, who supports gay comics and gay comic creators. Prism Comics loves my book and loves that I can poke fun at our queer culture. Perhaps this book just isn't for you? All my best!
It seems like a pointless "dicussion" when you are talking to a gay man who has based a gay character on himself and who sells his comics to other gay people who was interviewed on a gay TV show discussing his gay comic book. No one seems to have a problem with my book but you. Sounds like a pointless discussion. If you don't agree with my book, that is your right, and I support that. But I disagree and am happy with my bok and stand by it. :)
The fact that I'm offering a different opinion to the kind you're looking for doesn't make it "pointless."
I don't "disagree" with your book either. I'm merely disinterested in entertainment that tries to build laughs off of stereotypes. Stereotypes of any kind are cliches.
I was just surprised that you would personally embrace such cliches as if they constituted the norm of a particular orientation.
Again, I am thankful for your opinion, but I disagree. Stereotypes don't have power over a people when the people in the stereotypes embrace tham and laugh at them. Laughing at things that may seem insulting and hurtful no longer give those things power. Besides this, I don't see myself, or my character as a stereotype, I see my character as a true representation of myself as a gay man. You may see me and my character a different way, I see us as happy, gay people loving our life. Thanks again!

"We Agree to Disagree."
Don't speak on my behalf and pretend the discussion is coming to a mutual close.

It's a discussion, not a fight. Don't be so defensive.
