In case you were unaware of this, the Americans won the battle and succesfully secured a landing post to move all of their men and equipment inland. German general Rommel refused to send reenforcements(I suspect because at that point he wanted Hitler to lose) leading to a relatively easy march into Germany.

In case you were unaware of this, the Americans won the battle and succesfully secured a landing post to move all of their men and equipment inland. German general Rommel refused to send reenforcements(I suspect because at that point he wanted Hitler to lose) leading to a relatively easy march into Germany.

Rommel had no authority to reinforce any beach heads due to Hitler in his madness having appointed himself superior commander of all german forces and holding back all armor, due to western misinformation, that the real landings were to come elsewhere.

The number of casualties isn't the only issue in deciding who wins a battle. If one side has higher casualties, but takes strategically important terrain, it is worth the loss.
As for Rommel, he could have moved troops to reinforce Normandy. I suspect (just my opinion) that he delayed the troops because he knew Hitler was out of control.
