  • Typical Callas - pain in the ear - at 3.33 she scares the bats out of the cave with

her screaming . Try Maynor for beauty and line - not one soprano

can match her - she is the standard of comparison -overlooked to-day but

a great singer in her time .

  • still the best recording

  • @mtlhoma listen to ninon vallin or grace moore, far better.however, you might prefer listening to a chicken.

  • @hobo1975 i will give them a try but i feel sorry for people who have the need to promote their liking by having to denigrate to make their point. Thanks again.

  • @hobo1975 Agree with you that Vallin is good but Moore, no. and Callas is Callas. Thanks again.

  • @mtlhoma Moore was a wonderful singer, callas was a great artist with an oversung, shouty, sharp voice. i hear that Grace Moores youtube version was coached by Charpentier himself and is wonderful, expressive, spontaneous and beautiful.

  • very sensitive reading, apart from the high notes that are painful.

  • In my opinion the great Callas is not convincing while singing: "Je suis heureuse". Is she ? I don't hear it. This is not her rôle. Another American soprano was much better: Grace Moore. Glamourous Grace. Her french is lousy, but she studied this role with the composer Gustave Charpentier. She is Louise from the bottom to her feet ! Singing "Je suis heureuse" she IS heureuse ! Ever seen her movie of Louise with the great George Thill ? Look at her eyes. She is sóóóó lovely !

  • I THINK THAT CALLAS CAN NOT BE COMPARED TO ANY OTHER SIGNER ITS LIKE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE HER VOICE ALDO NOT THE MOST JOLIE, BUT I DONT CARE SHE ABSOLUTLY BRILLIANT,A CLASS ON HER OWN,,,BRAVA. MARIA

  • @otorino9o9 she CAN be compared to any other singer and any other recording of the same arias. just break it down into criteria (legato, respect of dynamics, pronounciation, vocal quality, etc.) and compare one by one. and you will see that it is very easy to compare. she will win on many points (legato, musicality, dynamics, pronounciation) but not all (voice, high notes), obviously.

  • Great aria lovely wonderful well done i wonder how Tebaldi would sing this aria hahaaa well she wouldnt but anyways Callas did a wonderful job here she convey all the emotions and the true drama of a great soprano...

  • Tebaldi sang this aria in concert. In Italian, though. Tebaldi's rendition, as always, was highly musical. I hold Maria's closer to my heart, though. Her performances in San Remo (1954), preserved on CD, and in studio (this version) are both incredibly beautiful and moving, and are both explosions of vocal colours.

  • @MAPIAKALLAS She did sing it. Listen and learn.

  • Let me go on the record by saying I'm not a big Callas fan- but this recording is FAR better than that of Gheorhiu! Despite a big wobble on the high B on "heureuse" in the last of the aria, her passion, her nicely done pianissimos & attention to pitch are all very nicely done. Nice tempo by the conductor- it seems HE knows a good pace (you'll notice this is shorter by almost a whole minute than Angela's.) I liked it- not as well as Leontyne's but well done. :)

  • Any recording of Callas' is FAR better than that of Gheorghiu.

  • she sure knew how to plumb the depths of passion and put it out through her voice. diva suprema.
