  • Quirky name for an album but truly great music none the less. brings back a few happy memories!...

  • I miss Soupy.......

  • i guess being married to PAUL SIMON was more important than her career! what a shame....

  • @mojohelmet raising a family CAN be more important - to some. Ever heard of Patti Smith?

  • I used to shoot up junk in a bathroom to this album........

  • @markw999 aw wow right? which bathroom, and now what *do* you shoot up there right? huhuh....just kidding... but this is why rock'n'roll is bad-because it makes people do all kinds of wacky stuff like dane, drink and do other naughty things right?

  • is it not "you got a lot of living to do with that life"?

  • @xabnu

    no it isn't.

  • Great song!

  • anyone know the chords to this?

  • I totally agree with you, musicjunkie713. They never topped the 1st release & they are totally awesome!

  • love the rhythm and rhyming of the lyrics on this one .....just great !

  • you got a lot livin to do without..... life

    so true

  • Her best song. She's one of my favorite singers.

  • you got the lyrics wrong

never cared that her brain was dead

  • @thevampirecierra

Well spotted, I've corrected it now. :)

  • i love it now just as i did in 89..those were the days

  • luv this song...& edie brickell!!!!!

  • what a voice! my favorite cut from this album. thanks for posting.

  • I remember seeing them in Vancouver in 1988, my first ever concert. Before they began this tune, Edie told the audience, 'Alright...this is a song about someone who's dead.' Good show. A musician in the solo mode of Bob Dylan opened up for them and he did great. I don't recall his name.

'You got a lot of living to do.'

  • @AllisterCooper2008 Correction: This was my first ever concert there in Canada.

  • Easily my favorite EB tune. Lyrical genius. Wish I got famous just so I could cover this song.

  • Justin Bieber should remake this song

  • @RayNasty28 that wood make the song just ok. itz fantabulous now. byt if beav-beeber sang it then it wood be ok. jb is talented, but this would not work for him.

  • this is about a super pretty women

that has a big family thats kind of broken up

she does drugs and goes out with alot guys

and the guys dont care abou how high she is because shes so georgeus.

  • What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman... God keep and bless you Edie Sedgwick!!! and Edie Brickell!

  • this song is dateless, timeless

  • she is hot!

  • awsome writing, If you can't picture every word she sings, there is something wrong

  • The illustration is sooo cute. The song is great too - the lyrics encompass everything that was '60s NYC. This is very unique. ;)

  • Definitely, one of my faves.

"Day-Glo paints on an electric chair

Electric dye in her lover's hair

A pretty sight in the middle of the night

Made up for everyone to see

Swinging on a branch of a broken family tree"

Thought it was the most striking thing.

  • @LunaSeaSane also: "the Village idiots in her bed..." - Edie was the Queen of the East - and probably also West - Villages in 60's nyc .....

~ but yea Brickell said she saw the book on a friend's coffee table, started browsing it cuz of the title similarity to her own name, and of course became immediately engrossed in Sedgwick's dizzying tale.

  • That is most interesting. Thanks.

  • i forgot about this one... i randomly re-discovered it! thx for the post!

  • to me ... "having it all" has always included my own health... and "balance"... nature... i love nature... bug huge ass canadian trees i grew up around... love them fukurs !!!! hehe.... i cannot stand goy beorge..... and i looooove eminem btw... and i love reiki and meditation... i love all sorts of stuff that is "good" & "kind" and intelligent to me... functional & useful...

  • little miss S. = Edie Sedgwick *,*

  • @desertshore thanks for the send jim,

  • Love the words:"The village idiots in her bed

Never cared that her eyes were red

Never cared that her eyes were dead

In the hours that her face was alive

It was the thing just to be by her side"

  • Never cared that her eyes were red, never cared that her brain was dead, in the hours that her face was alive

  • @Lechter80 indeed profound and very sad words in this song

  • Sure sounds like it:

"Shooting up junk in the bathroom"

    (Edie did).

"Day-Glo paints on an electric chair"

(Warhol, who was considered the grestest colorist since Matisse.

The electric chair serial portraits were part of Warhol's "Death and Disaster" series).

  • I despise "what i am" lol But this is a good song, I miss this kind of sound and the female stereotypes concurrent with it.

  • love youtube. you can get any song you can think of. this song was just in my head and i typed it in youtube and just like that i'm rocking out to edie!

  • billiant......

  • is this written for edie sedgwick?

  • @vanicolezero Yes...It was written in her honor. *If "honor" is the right word?

  • their 2nd album is pretty good as well

  • 20th rating. LOVE this album.

  • haha... someone play this for lohan

  • did you also know they released that album in 1984 but it tanked? then re-released in 86. I was fortunate enough to see them live...

  • Sorry blurred thoughts, released in 1986 re-released in 88

  • They never topped that first album.

  • @poitier111 not many bands are lucky enough to bring out debut albums that become Classics, but totally agree with you. The first three albums were good but the first was packed with gems

  • @poitier111 True. Thankfully, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Iron topped their debuts. Led Zeppelin II, Paranoid, and Killers forever. Murder.

  • love all her song and they are clean she rock

  • Her Beautiful voice makes this song a Classic.

  • I would love to hear this song remixed with more emphasis on the bass. Ala John Taylor or Geddy Lee.

  • When I played this last week - for the first time in 15 years - I was blown away. I sounds even better than it did back in the day. Stunning.

  • it's "shooting UP junk" not "shooting"

it's a drug reference, not a shit reference.

  • wow, how perceptive of you

  • Hahaha! Now who did you have to explain that to?

  • This song is about Edie Sedgwick.

  • shooting out junk in the bathroom? Oh com on-you HAVE to love that!

  • haha...not what she says.

  • Yeah, sounds like some explosive shit going on.

  • I used to know this girl back in high school who fit this song perfectly. She did every drug known to man and screwed everybody....well everybody but me....sigh.

  • Dude, just be glad you avoided the STDs.

  • she is the best

  • i love this song so much..

  • little miss s in a minidress...got to love edie...i do...love, gato

  • more edie brickell, please ... i LOVE this album!
