Check it @ 0:23 the a girl asked, "Are they both Cobalt's?".....My response would have been, "Yup! that's why they look a like!!!" ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
@06BlueBomber If I happened to be launching at the point that the rev limiter kicked in it would be no different than launch control haha In a purely technical sense of the word, launch control IS a rev limiter...for when you launch. At any rate, I was goofing off because....well, because I can. You ever just go out, fuck around, and have some fun? That's what we were doing here. Bonus for me was I ended up winning.
@oneone1onezero0 3 points to be made here - 1: The Si won. 2: There is only one driver of the Si in the video:Me 3: V-Tech is a manufacturer of consumer electronics such as cordless phones. What you were probably looking for was VTEC. Unfortunately for you, even had you gotten that right, the Honda in this video uses iVTEC, which, while being fundamentally the same, is different enough for me to call you out on it just to illustrate how pointless and poorly thought out your comment was.
@oneone1onezero0 rofl. Seriously? That was the best you could come back with? What's next - "Yo momma" jokes? Move along kid before I embarrass you some more, you've got nothing on me.
@driftingeric2k4 hey im actually looking to buy one of these two cars i was wondering if you could tell me some of the pros and cons of both? i love Hondas and i also love Chevys so that makes no difference to me
@gabex22 Really, it comes down to personal preference on what you want with the car. If you want to be able to race people at lights and beat a lot of them, you will want the Cobalt. If you want something that is built a bit better and serves more of a daily driver purpose, you will want the Civic. If you are modding for power, you will want the Cobalt, it makes more power, cheaper. A lot of it comes down to the "feel" of the car as well. I love high RPM engines. You might not.
@gabex22 So ultimately, you simply MUST test drive both vehicles. Also realize you are going to get a lot of hate if you drive the Civic because "derp derp its a Honda and they are for the fagzzzz zomg!" But that is bullshit and you just have to laugh that shit off. Both cars are good. I prefer the Si. For what I do, which is 95% daily driving, I couldnt see myself in a Cobalt. I have a second car which is my "straight line beat the kids at the light" car, so why would I need another?
@gabex22 If you are looking to buy new, you would do well to test drive the new K24 powered Si as well as the new turbo charged Cobalt. You wont find them for 12-15K like you can the used Si and supercharged cobalts, but the performance increase (especially with regards to the TC Cobalt) may be worth the upsell to you. Of course for that amount of money (22-30K), I would probably be looking at used C6 Corvettes myself. That is just one man's opinion, good luck!
@TheRogueSS That's the new price for the K24 Si (22k) and the Cobalt TC (30k) (in my area anyway) that I was giving him. I was saying if he was thinking of buying a new Si or CobaltTC, I would take that money and put it towards a faster USED vehicle like a C6 Vette. I see how my wording was a bit confusing though.
@driftingeric2k4 my god you must be joking. The Si's price sounds right, but whoever is selling a TC in your area for 30K is out of their minds. My buddy is financing an '09 SS/TC with 24,000mi for slightly less than 16K.
@TheRogueSS Haha, yeah its pretty lame, there are LT cobalts with 30k miles on them going for 18 grand on the dealer lots. I live near a military base (Fort Drum, NY). Dealers try to rape the soldiers on sporty cars. If you drive just 70 miles south to Syracuse, you get waaaaay better deals.
U wouldnt smoke the clutch if u didnt ride it im zzp stage 3 270hp to the crank. stock clutch and fly wheel. had the kit for 5 months handles just fine for me
@cutegumbygurl Your mileage may vary I guess. He bought the car used and who knows what the previous owner was like. The fact of the matter is, he put in stage 2 and about month later, clutch was fried. If what you say is true, it's probably due to the previous owner abusing it. Did you get your car dynoed? I think he is looking to go stage 3 very soon.
@driftingeric2k4 yes i had it dynoed. An sorry if i came off as a dick was not trying to be one. If his clutch is slipping now though look into a spec 2 clutch like 600 bucks but can handle up to 450whp. I have friends that have modded cobalts as well. i know my buddy needs a new clutch but he has a zzp turbo kit on his and he is making 425whp on a stock clutch lol
@cutegumbygurl No worries, I didn't take offense, and yes that is exactly what he got and paired it with a Fidanza flywheel :D 425whp on stock clutch seems like a recipe for disaster though haha, I dont know of many stock clutchs that can take that kind of abuse!
id love to see that race again with the civic si supercharged as well,,, yah, buh-by cobalt. as for the turbo charged one, same deal cobalt would be seein honda tail lights, and that IS a fact
@supersmashist oh ok how bout we do it this way, we remove the supercharger from that cobalt and,,,,, uh,,,oh, wait, they already did that, its called the cobalt pile of shit LS, which the SI has no problem wiping the floor with! there is always some fuckin asshole cobalt fanboy that wants to compare a sc or tc car to a normally aspirated car. oh and btw, dollar for dollar you are mistaken. and ill take the reliability of a honda over a chevy any day of the week!
well thats a pretty fair insight i would say haha. my first car was a civic i modded out and im getting rid of my rx7 so im not assuming it will be that fast but maybe with the stage 2 upgrade it will be decent. Thanks. Hows the reliability on it?
@griffinherbst My brother beats the snot out of his and its still running fine. Ecotec motor is very reliable motor from all that I have seen and heard from other friends who have them. My brothers is stage 2 tuned by ZZP currently and he smoked his clutch because of it, but we expected that. He now has a GMPP clutch and Fidanza flywheel in it to handle the extra power. Very quick car for the money.
@griffinherbst Well I actually drive the Si. The Cobalt is my brothers. Taht said, I have driven it on several occasions and it is a hell of a lot of fun. Other than getting like a used Neon SRT4 I am pretty sure the Cobalt SS is the cheapest way to get your speed fix. My only complaint about the Cobalt is I *HATE* the interior. As that is an opinion though, you rally cant factor it in to whether its a good car or not. I think its a great car, you wont be disappointed.
@MboroMarksman4 The turbo Cobalt is the better of the two from a performance perspective. The only thing you really get form the Civic Si is a better interior (which is definitely an opinion based thing). Your insurance will be cheaper on the Si as well. My brother's old insurance company put his supercharged Cobalt (the one in this video) in the same class as a Corvette, which is insanity. The price of the Cobalt is likely to be more expensive as well, but worth it in my opinion.Test them both!
@datboyg90 That dude is me. First time, new car, blah blah. It's called learning. Just curious how much do you make a year drag racing since you must be a professional with such enlightening criticism?
The first thing every new SS supercharged owner should do is work on traction instead of going straight for a smaller pulley. The Honda has little torque which makes it very easy to launch. Novice drivers will either spin or dump the SS. Driver makes a big difference. Some 235 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs and OTTP rotated mounts would really help first gear. I could run high 13's on the stock pulley with just a 3" k&n and flowmaster 40. Nice run for the SI, any plans for it? boost maybe?
@chevydude2 Thanks for the comment, and I totally agree with you about the traction comment. I was going to potentially drop the Si for a Forester XT and put some STi goodies on it but I was able to get a really good refinance rate on it, so yes, boost may actually be in the future :D Probably a supercharger to improve drivability since I dont really drag race it that much.
@driftingeric2k4 I like your plan bro. The supercharger sound is a major head turner. Every time I get on it people have a WTF look. Youtube trolls are always crying about how much better a turbo is when in fact it really depends on the application. Comparing the turbo version to the supercharged version of my car is a prime example because of when the power come in. Just a 2.9 pulley will smoke a turbo SS. Not everyone wants crazy HP. Good luck with your car man.
My friends has a 07 si with K&N intake custom headers and k pro smoked the shit out of a cobalt supercharged with and intake. I also depends on the driver and shifting.
@diablo93ib Kpro helps a ton. If I have one complaint about the Si, it is that the iVTEC comes on a bit too late. I understand why they put it at the 5800-6000 rpms that it is at stock, but since cruising at 70mph puts you at about 3000rpms in 6th gear I think they could have gotten away with starting iVTEC at 4000 or 4500.
@diablo93ib i doubt your friend has kpro for his civic seeing as they dont make kpro for the civic... he might have a "flashpro" but kpro and flashpro are totally different...
cobalt eny day guys! im a honda guy but. My sisters boyfriend has a stock cobalt ss supercharged, and we raced a modded civic si ,at about 180km/h the si couldnt keep up. so srry si
@2000kx1252 No it wouldnt keep up in a race thanks to the supercharger. the Si far surpasses the cobalt as a daily driver though. Sorry, I just cant get over the cheap cheap cheap interior the Cobalt has. Everything about it screams "I used to be a Cavalier in a previous life".
I can' tell who won? Was it the cobalt? probably was even tho I'd rather the Si wins. The cobalt looks like shit next to that beautiful fiji blue pearl Si Coupe, The Si just looks more expensive and refined, while the cobalt looks gimmicky and cheap.
@xoquixxoqafxo I won (the Si driver). Look for the light that lights up right under the where the times are displayed. The side that is lit is the side that crossed the finish line first. Thanks for the compliments also. She is a good car no doubt.
wow really? I also thought those crappy SS cobalt's were quicker than an Si, How'd you win? The driver of the cobalt must not know how to drive stick. Glad you won though, I can't stand it when people tell me, "why do you want an Si, for the money you could have a MS3 or GTI and it smokes the Si" You couldn't pay me to drive a VW with electrical problems, the mazda has torque steer and a heavy clutch and the cobalt is cheaply built. The fastest car isn't always the winner.
@xoquixxoqafxo That is true. Besides, if I wanted a quarter mile car I wouldnt pick any of the ones you mentioned anyway. I would probably go with an LS1 Camaro since they are everywhere and are crazy cheap to build. Certain cars for certain things. This is my DD and even my brother (the driver of the Cobalt) will tell you the Si is the better daily driver.
I would never own a Cobalt, I've driven the SS that is supercharged, no doubt a quick car and I like the Supercharger whine but the interior is just too cheaply built, the shifter felt notchy and imprecise compared to the 6MT in the Si, and the thing depreciates like nobody's business.
@xoquixxoqafxo I agree with you. If I want all out speed I am willing to make some compromises on comfort but given the power differences between the SS/SC and the Si the Si beats the Cobalt in basically every category except straight line speed. For that, I have my Camaro :)
@driftingeric2k4 do u have proof on this? cuz if you look up track times, breaking times, etc the cobalt out performes the si but if you have links that show this other wise id be glad to say u were right. untill then u are wrong :)
@cblt2007 You are coming into a conversation where we were discussing more than performance. I have agreed countless times with other posters on here that the stock Cobalt SS/SC vs the stock Si the SS/SC out performs the Si. Period. However, in all other categories, it is my opinion that the Si easily beats the SS/SC. However, some guys like fat girls, so there isnt any scientific way of proving it to you. Some people like vanilla, some people like chocolate.
@cblt2007 Also, *MY* Si beats a Cobalt SS/SC in everything but straight line speed. Including those areas you listed because mine is modified for AutoX. My motor is stock, but the suspension, braking, etc are not. I have another straight line car, so my Si is made to handle the corners. No way to really prove that either except what my brother (the Cobalt owner in this video) says regarding our two cars. His is blisteringly fast at full stage 2, but I take corners at speeds he cannot.
@driftingeric2k4 what mods excactly do you have on ur si? and and i was just asking if you had any links of where stock for stock the SI beats the cobalt in any track condition. either straight or turning. actually i believe on the nurburging (spell check) the cobalt has the fastest set lap time in its class at a 8:22:85.. only to be beaten by one car the renault megane r26r which comes from the factory with a roll cage, plastic everyhing to save weight 230hp, bucket seats, no radio, so id say..
@driftingeric2k4 thats not really being beaten.. but it has a faster lap time. so its the seconds fastest car with a FWD,front engine car. its faster than the STI, EVO, and i know those beat the civic si as well.. so now thats one track. laguna seca it ran a 1:47:75., VIR. it ran a 3:13:00,el toro it ran a 0:45:62, streets of willow
0.96) mile. 1:01.70. now i cant find the civic SI times on these tracks, and the civic type R didnt race these tracks or atleast cant find track times. so feel
@driftingeric2k4 free to post the times of the civic times on these tracks and then we can see stock for stock who is actually faster. i love both cars. i was very close to buying a civic si. honestly really was. i think they look very nice from the outside. and the inside is very nice. but for performance im sorry but the si doesnt keep up. and thats not so much of an opinion as it is a fact. and untill u can show me facts to that i will not stand corrected. :)
@cblt2007 Mate, I think you have me mistaken for someone who is arguing with you. I am not. The gentleman I was replying to in the other comment we were discussing things like interior and looks, which are entirely opinion based things, and in my opinion, in that discussion, the Si beat the cobalt in everything. I do not have any argument against the cobalt outperforming the 8th gen Si. If you want to debate pick another person. I have already argued FOR the Cobalt many times on this page.
@driftingeric2k4 well i was simply replying to u after you said "Also, *MY* Si beats a Cobalt SS/SC in everything but straight line speed. Including those areas you listed because mine is modified for AutoX. My motor is stock, but the suspension, braking, etc are not." i am not here to argue i like both cars almost bought a civic. and u r right on one thing the looks are something u cant argue becuase its an opinion. atleast u r one of the very few honda drivers that will admit that...
@driftingeric2k4 it is an opinion. but id still like to know ur mods. i am a car enthusiast ( spell check) im ok with losing and being like dude nice fuckin car what do u got done to it...
@cblt2007 In the video you are seeing now, nothing. Its bone stock. Now though I have basically full bolt on suspension, urethane motor mounts, torque damper, reflash, tires and a ladder bar setup under the car. Still same stock motor though, not even so much as a K&N filter in the airbox. Couple Password:JDM dress up goodies inside and out and a vented carbon fiber hood. Was saving for boost but am looking into buying a house now so I bought a cheap Camaro for my 1/4 mile machine.
@driftingeric2k4 nice what part of the states do u live in? i havent taken my cobalt to a auto cross yet. all i ahve for turning is lowering springs. and na i wasnt trying to be a dick about it when i was saying it lol im just a sarcastic person XD.. but people on here ( not u) dont ever look at facts. and they take opinions to heart. facts are facts for a reason and idc how much u believe other wise its not gonna change a fact. lol..my brother ahs the srt-4 so thats what im trying to beat...
@cblt2007 If his SRT4 is stock I would definitely recommend getting the ZZP Stage 2 package. I think my brother paid under 800 for it. Night and day difference. Before his car was "a little" better than mine. Now it straight rapes me. He has raced a NeonSRT4 (stock) before and put a length or two on him easily. Never raced a Caliber SRT4 but I think the result would be identical. We are in northern New York. This video was shot in Syracuse.
@driftingeric2k4 haha na hes not stock but im not sure what all he has on his car i know he has a stage 2 tune and stuff makes more boost than stock but he wont tell me everything. and i pretty much have a zzp stage 2 kit. but i think my pulley is smaller. but that 3" dp and exhaust makes a huge difference when stageing the cobalt. i only make like 14 lbs of boost on the setup im running and im thinking its cuz of the 3" dp and exhaust. but idk im supposed to get it dynoed in feb. so well see...
@driftingeric2k4 if theres something wrong with it or its making about 250+ hp im hopeing for about 270. but idk how realistic that is. but hey man sorry if i came off as a dick. lol if im ever up that way ill hit u up to go to a auto cross event. ive never done it though so idk how good ill be.. cuz dont matter how good the car is if the driver cant drive it :D
@cblt2007 Its a good community to be in, autox. Not sure about your experience with drag strips but they arent too friendly to new racers. Autox is very different for some reason the people are usually VERY helpful to new people so I would recommend you go do it! :D Fun as hell and you learn so much from the pros about how to set your car up and stuff. 250 is realistic on stage 2. My brothers car feels faster than my old Rustang GT was which was ~240 whp stock. Big weight difference though.
@driftingeric2k4 ya 250 is realistic for just a stage 2. but with exhaust dp and a stage 2 clutch which my dad says can reduce drivetrain loss by 1-2% sometimes more. so i mean thats a big difference as well. so idk well see and i was grown into a family of 1/4 mil racers and from my experiences atleast the people are pretty friendly. they have a autox around my house on tuesdays that maybe ill start going to it seems fun. so well see. i think its only like 10 bux to.. maybe 20 i forget.
@driftingeric2k4 right now i ahve a custom stage2 its got a 2.9" pulley 42.5 lb hr injectors, lowering springs, couple dress up in side, stage 2 clutch, 3" zzp downpipe, 3 " magnaflow cat back exhaust, and a trifecta tune. soon to be a custom hpt tune. its ben rainging here the past week and a half when i actually have the money to go to the track so i havent taken it yet. but i know after i did everything to it. i raced a mustang cobra and he wouldnt look at me after the race ^_^....
@driftingeric2k4 i have it limited out to 7250 rpm and we did a 55mph start. so i was in seconds im guessing he was in 3rd. so i got that quick little jump and stayed at about half a car the entire time up to about 130-140 ( in a closed track location in mexico XD) and he was pretty mad especially after i kept up with him the next time when we launched at 40 and i stayed right next to him. he had gauges up the ass to triple gauge pod full. exhaust for sure other than that idk what he had.
@cblt2007 Hope I didnt come across as defensive or coming down on you, because I am not. I honestly really enjoy getting seat time in my brothers ZZP tuned stage 2+ SS/SC. Its significantly faster than mine and you cant deny that Eaton whine. :D I have no disrespect to the cobalt whatsoever, I think it is a great car and I wish Honda would take note and FINALLY get some factory boost going ;p
@cblt2007 You dont need to come and tell me all your facts in an attempt to prove something I already agree with. I know the cobalt outperforms the Civic. You were replying to a comment made in a conversation that had NOTHING to do with performance. OK? I have no beef with the Cobalts at all. Matter of fact, I think it is a GREAT car and dollar for dollar an amazing value. Alas, it is not for me. I choose the Si for a DD. If I wanted a faster car, I would have gone with an STi or Evo.
yea obvs the ss is faster because it is has the addded supercharger, the si wouldn't stand a chance. So it is a bascailly unfair advantage over the si.
if the civic came with a stock super charger like the cobalt, the civic wouldve won. but the civic lost only by a few milliseconds WITH OUT a super charger. so the cobalt isnt that much greater cus it almost got beat by a car with no forced induction. besides, most hondas in the USA are built in the USA. we dont get Japanese cars straight from japan anymore. thats so 1980s.
@dspec78 Bloody hell. The Si won this race NOT the Cobalt. Jesus dont any of you know how a drag race works? Pro tip- Just look for the dummy lights on the timer poles. The side that lights up - WINS!
@driftingeric2k4 if u pay attention to the end, the cobalt crossed the finishline first. the time on the coblat was 15.19 and the civc ran a 15.22 i do know about drag racng, been building hondas for 10 yrs bucko!
@dspec78 I dont have to pay attention to the end I was the one driving the car. He had the faster time but because of his SLOWER reaction I beat him to the line. The timer doesnt start until you cross the first line, you can sit at the line all day long and the timer wont start. Its called a holeshot win. Learn to race at a TRACK. The Si won. They make it easy for idiots...just look for the light to light up at the end of the track...which sides light lit up? Uh huh...Thanks for playing.
@blabolabla Correct. I make no claims that my Si can beat a stock SS/SC. It cant due to the huge difference in torque. But I CAN beat the driver who thinks that because his car is better on paper that he has it made in the shade.
@dspec78 And in case you are blind (because you also didn't read the times right) the light I am talking about is on the pole directly under where the time displays. The lane that wins has their light lit up. So, simple question: Whose side lit up? Thats your winner. HINT: It was the Si. That I was driving. You haven't got a clue.
@thaguru2 They dont need that. My 06 Cobalt LS keeps up with them. And the 2.4 Cobalt stomps it without a supercharger!! Honda makes good cars but they are SLOW!!!!!!!! COBALTS RULE!!!!!!!!!
@WVCobalt1 Say what? An LS does not keep up with the new Si. Race some people who know how to drive dude. Take your Si stomper to a track and post your time, if its better than my 14.9 stock (or even the 15.1 you see here) then I will recant my statement. Til then, you are racing people who dont know how to drive at all.
@WVCobalt1 ... yeah... i'm pretty sure that Si driver didn't know how to drive. and c'mon... 2.4 litre vs 2.0 litre.... go do the math. cobalt is just a cavalier with a facelift, which needed taxpayers' dollars to continue production.
@7400rpm That is true. He got it under control later on in the day and was running proper times. I got mine down to 15.1x consistently and ran one 14.9 which is my best time. Neither of us have been to the track since but he is full stage 2 and I am still stock (daily driver). I imagine he is in the 13s pretty easy now. He was running mid 14.4 this day.
@cleank2o This Si was bone stock at the time with only 3000 miles on it. If I had bolt ons I would expect to run that time as well. I got it down to 14.9 stock the next time I took it to the track only difference being an Ingalls ETD set on stiffest setting and playing with tire pressure the whole day.
@mikeya1009 I have an 88 IROCZ Camaro as well. I wont even go into how many "American" vehicles out there are not even remotely close to being American in anything other than the company logo on the front grill.
@driftingeric2k4 and exactly how long have you worked in the automotive industry....you assume the American cars have foreign parts when the truth is gm has over 80% that are manufactured right here...the parts are American and some new model vehicles are built in Canada and in Mexico which in that case 75% of those cars are shipped to the dealerships in their country....
@mikeya1009 I don't assume anything. A quick bit of research shows that 3 of the top 10 cars made american arent american at all (2 toyota, 1 honda). Thats great for GM - unfortunately for you I didn't mention them and unfortunately for you you just threw that number out there with nothing to suppport it.Besides, last I checked, my salesman (an American) keeps his Honda job (American company) and made commission from my (American) dollars. So guess what? My conscience is clean.
@driftingeric2k4 Also, when trying to convince the public to purchase American vehicles, it would be a better idea not to include a company that needed taxpayer dollars to stay solvent. I have supported the American auto industry. They havent supported me and that is all I need to know. Total dollars I have spent on American vehicles I own is about 124,000 dollars. Total dollars I have spent on the two foreign companies I like (Honda and Subaru) = 57,000 dollars. Your argument falls flat.
@driftingeric2k4 your a schmuck. Hondas are junk and your just mad that jap cars are slow.. And your sad that GM is the top selling company in the world! Maybe you should do some research before you talk shit. OR are you a young kid that thinks he knows it all? Grow up bro and try to respect peoples opinions instead of talking shit.
@WVCobalt1 YOU need to do more research. GM is not the top selling company. Toyota is. Freely available info on the internet man, you should check it out before spouting off at the mouth and showing everyone you are a complete buffoon.
Buy american? Are you serious? You have any idea the difference between assembled in america and made in america? Chances are, your Ford is made with imported parts.
@HellionX And for ford especially, is typically made in Mexico. People believe what they want to believe though. Blind patriotism isn't patriotism at all. Its a global economy now folks, everyone probably should get used to it. My Civic was made in Ohio. My old Ranger was made in Mexico. so....yeah, I dont buy into the whole "buy American" mentality. Our problems didnt start with competititve items from other countries. It started when we offshored jobs to improve megacorps bottom line.
@HellionX and exactly how long have you worked in the automotive industry....you assume the American cars have foreign parts when the truth is gm has over 80% that are manufactured right here...the parts are American and some new model vehicles are built in Canada and in Mexico which in that case 75% of those cars are shipped to the dealerships in their country.... same thing goes to you...no what your talking about before senseless rambling starts
Senseless rambling? I was pointing out the fact that not every piece of metal, plastic, and rubber in a so called "american car" was from the great US and A. I don't just assume american cars have foreign parts, it's a fact. And it's fucking stupid to tell someone to buy american, as if buying an american brand is as patriotic as standing from a seat when a group of military men walk by an airport. You've completely misunderstood my whole post.
@HellionX you dont know what your talking about. My brother drives a 91 Explorer. Its all american. Maybe you should do some research there MR Know It All..
kinda REALLY slow for that Cobalt SS/SC stock. If you check out my videos, I did 14.48s with stock tires, I was averaging 14.5-14.6s max during that day. 15.3 for the SI... I'm sure you could do better as well because I've seen some running 14.9-15.0 at the dragstrip here. How much were your 60 ft?? With 14.48s, this was with a 60ft of 2.26s...
@firepinch I dont recall specifically since I lost the time slip when I cleaned out my desk at home.I wouldnt be surprised if mine were high 2.3's - low 2.4s. I do remember commenting several times to my friends throughout the day if I could just get my 60s down I would hit 15 flat.I think I cut one 2.2x time when I brought the tire pressure down considerably but I lost speed badly on the top end so while the 60 was good, the ET was not. I have better tires now, I should run it again sometime.
@driftingeric2k4 haha i got the 06 ss-sc its still pretty great man, i miss the luxury of the si though honestly lol and check my vids bro, i got my si, and ss up their
@oneone1onezero0 sigh....no, the Cobalt did not win, the Civic side lights up to signify the lane that won. Please review the comments for an explanation on how a drag race works with a light tree I can't be bothered to type it out for the fifth time.
Question. What do we classify the Cobalt as. It's not a muscle car, yet not a import. And bear in mind if you mod a car it's a "tuner". So what the hell is it?!!!!
@alexhc09 I would definitely call it a tuner car. Basically I think of it like this: in order to be muscle, you have to be American made with a V8. Most people include "pony" cars in the muscle car category. Imports are really any non-US made vehicle. Then you have Import tuners and domestic tuners which are the modded cars. Then, of course :D there is rice! lol Cobalt's a great car, and I would definitely call it a domestic tuner.
@V8Dumyz The only thing pretty clear to me is that you have no idea how a drag race works when a light tree is involved. The clock doesnt start til you cross the line. So, if lane A has a better reaction time than lane B, lane A can have a slower time but still hit the finish line first. For people who dont understand this simple concept they make it simple. You watch to see which sidelights up first at the end of the race. If you open YOUR eyes, you will see my side gets the win. "Kiddo".
@driftingeric2k4 ok so to get it right the Cobalt SS supercharged (bro) got 15.19 and the Honda Civic Si (you) got 15.39. So the Cobalt should have won cuz he got the lower time meaning he crossed the line before you. Yet you said you won cuz of blah blah..you lost me basically and I was hopeing you could explain it to me. Good job btw I actually searched for "honda civic si vs chevy Cobalt ss" cuz I wanted to buy one of these cars in DEC 2010, but I dont know which one to get. any tips?
@godsephro Think of it like this. I have a 20second car. It always runs 20 seconds no matter what. You have a 10secon car that runs 10 seconds no matter what. What would happen if, when the light turns green, you sat and waited for 11 seconds? At a drag strip your ET would STILL be 10 seconds but I would have beaten you by 1 full second because you sat at the light for 11 seconds. The timer doesnt start until you cross the beam of light.
@godsephro To put it another way. My Reaction Time (RT) on this run was .535. So add that to my time of 15.39 and you get a time of 15.925 That is the "Real World" time. The Cobalt had a reaction time of .972, add that to his time of 15.19 and his real time is 16.162. So, as you can see, this race was won solely on the difference between the reaction times. This is the reason why nearly all tracks have a light affixed to both time poles at the end of the track to signify who won.
@godsephro As far as which car to buy: If you are going to be modding it the Cobalt SS SC (or even better Turbocharged) is muuuuch more cost effective to modify. My brother spent like 650 for ZZP Performance stage 2 kit with bigger injectors, smaller pulley, etc and he is putting down like 240-250 wheel horsepower now. For me to do that in my Si I would have to drop 3000$ or more to get a supercharger or turbocharger. In my opinion the Si has the better build quality and is nicer in and out
@driftingeric2k4 ok that is awesome man I get it now. Ok I guess I'll go ahead and buy the Si, cuz I just like a little zip in my car that I drive. I plan on having this car for a long time, so I heard honda's last past the 200,000 mile mark. Now would you suggest buying a new Si or used? Any particular year is best or worst? I am triing to buy a 09 or 10 Si barely used sedan.
@godsephro The 06 and 07s had an issue in the transmission where a high rev 2nd to 3rd gear shift would sometimes pop out of gear so I would stay away from those model years. 2010 was when the Si got a minor facelift, real minor things like chrome accents and a different grill and I believe wheels as well. Buying new or used is a catch 22. On one hand, you know the car hasn't been beat, but on the other, the moment you drive off the lot you lose thousands in depreciation. I bought new.
@godsephro The sedan has a lot more parts available for modifying the car as well, so if you are into modding that is something to consider. Reason for this is that the coupe only exists in american and canadian markets. Sedan is the only option in Japan and so it gets all the love from the aftermarket. Another thing: driven lightly I get 32-34 mpg but it requires premium 91 or 93 octane gas due to the high compression and high redline. Its like 30cents more per gallon than regular octane
@driftingeric2k4 Totally awesome man, I'm definity taking some notes here. It says in the info "(FG2 197bhp NA) vs ... (Cobalt SS/SC 205bhp FI). " From that I understand the Si puts out stock 197 Hp I dont know what the FG2 is or bhp NA means, but the Cobalt SS/ supercharger puts out 205 hp then of course fuel injected.
@godsephro Close! FI means Forced Induction, IE the car is equipped with a turbo or supercharger. NA=Naturally Aspirated and means that the engine breathes the outside air without doing anything to it. FG2 is the Chassis Code for the 06-10 Si coupe. If youre looking at Sedans, the code is FA5. BHP means Brake HorsePower, the power the engine puts out WITHOUT taking into account driveline loss. WHP is Wheel horsepower, which DOES factor in driveline loss. WHP for an Si is around 180-185hp
@godsephro It takes a bit to get used to all the acronyms and shorthand for cars, but if you go onto a car forum, you will see these types of phrases thrown around VERY regularly so its good to get comfortable with them. Let me know if you have any questions, I am not the most knowledgeable about cars but I know my way around a Honda as I have owned 6 of them throughout my 15 years of driving and worked on quite a few more.
@driftingeric2k4 alright so here is my plan. Since I'm cheap I plan to get my si within the next two months. CUZ I googled when the new 2011 civic comes out and they all said within the next two months...so that means any si on a lot will drop (hopefully) and I will get a great deal on one. (hopefully) sound good? OH PLUS A REALLY COOL SI THAT I ENTERED TO WIN!! check it out> tinyurl(dot)com/2gx9bvh Just deny that pop up that comes up..Car is sweet except it is a Coupe.
@godsephro not sure what fg2 means i think its the motor type.. like a b16 or what not.. as for the FI it stand for forced induction. (the supercharger) BHP equals base horse power. NA stands for naturally asperated.meaning there is no supercharger or turbo charger on the car. hope that helps. any other questions let me know.. like driftking said im not the most knowledgeable but i can work my way around some cars even being 19 ^_^ cobalt FTW! hahaha FTW= for the win =) have fun with ur cars bra

06BlueBomber 5 months ago
@06BlueBomber If I happened to be launching at the point that the rev limiter kicked in it would be no different than launch control haha In a purely technical sense of the word, launch control IS a rev limiter...for when you launch. At any rate, I was goofing off because....well, because I can. You ever just go out, fuck around, and have some fun? That's what we were doing here. Bonus for me was I ended up winning.

oneone1onezero0 8 months ago
@oneone1onezero0 3 points to be made here - 1: The Si won. 2: There is only one driver of the Si in the video:Me 3: V-Tech is a manufacturer of consumer electronics such as cordless phones. What you were probably looking for was VTEC. Unfortunately for you, even had you gotten that right, the Honda in this video uses iVTEC, which, while being fundamentally the same, is different enough for me to call you out on it just to illustrate how pointless and poorly thought out your comment was.

@driftingeric2k4 hey im actually looking to buy one of these two cars i was wondering if you could tell me some of the pros and cons of both? i love Hondas and i also love Chevys so that makes no difference to me
gabex22 6 months ago
@gabex22 Really, it comes down to personal preference on what you want with the car. If you want to be able to race people at lights and beat a lot of them, you will want the Cobalt. If you want something that is built a bit better and serves more of a daily driver purpose, you will want the Civic. If you are modding for power, you will want the Cobalt, it makes more power, cheaper. A lot of it comes down to the "feel" of the car as well. I love high RPM engines. You might not.
driftingeric2k4 6 months ago
@gabex22 So ultimately, you simply MUST test drive both vehicles. Also realize you are going to get a lot of hate if you drive the Civic because "derp derp its a Honda and they are for the fagzzzz zomg!" But that is bullshit and you just have to laugh that shit off. Both cars are good. I prefer the Si. For what I do, which is 95% daily driving, I couldnt see myself in a Cobalt. I have a second car which is my "straight line beat the kids at the light" car, so why would I need another?
driftingeric2k4 6 months ago
@gabex22 If you are looking to buy new, you would do well to test drive the new K24 powered Si as well as the new turbo charged Cobalt. You wont find them for 12-15K like you can the used Si and supercharged cobalts, but the performance increase (especially with regards to the TC Cobalt) may be worth the upsell to you. Of course for that amount of money (22-30K), I would probably be looking at used C6 Corvettes myself. That is just one man's opinion, good luck!
driftingeric2k4 6 months ago
@driftingeric2k4 22-30K for a used Cobalt SS/TC or FG2 Si? Try more like 15-20K ;)
TheRogueSS 3 months ago
@TheRogueSS That's the new price for the K24 Si (22k) and the Cobalt TC (30k) (in my area anyway) that I was giving him. I was saying if he was thinking of buying a new Si or CobaltTC, I would take that money and put it towards a faster USED vehicle like a C6 Vette. I see how my wording was a bit confusing though.
driftingeric2k4 3 months ago
@driftingeric2k4 my god you must be joking. The Si's price sounds right, but whoever is selling a TC in your area for 30K is out of their minds. My buddy is financing an '09 SS/TC with 24,000mi for slightly less than 16K.
TheRogueSS 3 months ago
@TheRogueSS Haha, yeah its pretty lame, there are LT cobalts with 30k miles on them going for 18 grand on the dealer lots. I live near a military base (Fort Drum, NY). Dealers try to rape the soldiers on sporty cars. If you drive just 70 miles south to Syracuse, you get waaaaay better deals.

cutegumbygurl 9 months ago
@cutegumbygurl Your mileage may vary I guess. He bought the car used and who knows what the previous owner was like. The fact of the matter is, he put in stage 2 and about month later, clutch was fried. If what you say is true, it's probably due to the previous owner abusing it. Did you get your car dynoed? I think he is looking to go stage 3 very soon.
driftingeric2k4 9 months ago
@driftingeric2k4 yes i had it dynoed. An sorry if i came off as a dick was not trying to be one. If his clutch is slipping now though look into a spec 2 clutch like 600 bucks but can handle up to 450whp. I have friends that have modded cobalts as well. i know my buddy needs a new clutch but he has a zzp turbo kit on his and he is making 425whp on a stock clutch lol
cutegumbygurl 8 months ago
@cutegumbygurl No worries, I didn't take offense, and yes that is exactly what he got and paired it with a Fidanza flywheel :D 425whp on stock clutch seems like a recipe for disaster though haha, I dont know of many stock clutchs that can take that kind of abuse!

@supersmashist oh ok how bout we do it this way, we remove the supercharger from that cobalt and,,,,, uh,,,oh, wait, they already did that, its called the cobalt pile of shit LS, which the SI has no problem wiping the floor with! there is always some fuckin asshole cobalt fanboy that wants to compare a sc or tc car to a normally aspirated car. oh and btw, dollar for dollar you are mistaken. and ill take the reliability of a honda over a chevy any day of the week!
digmynewsocks 8 months ago
well thats a pretty fair insight i would say haha. my first car was a civic i modded out and im getting rid of my rx7 so im not assuming it will be that fast but maybe with the stage 2 upgrade it will be decent. Thanks. Hows the reliability on it?
griffinherbst 9 months ago
@griffinherbst My brother beats the snot out of his and its still running fine. Ecotec motor is very reliable motor from all that I have seen and heard from other friends who have them. My brothers is stage 2 tuned by ZZP currently and he smoked his clutch because of it, but we expected that. He now has a GMPP clutch and Fidanza flywheel in it to handle the extra power. Very quick car for the money.
driftingeric2k4 9 months ago
how do you like the obalt? considering getting one
griffinherbst 9 months ago
@griffinherbst Well I actually drive the Si. The Cobalt is my brothers. Taht said, I have driven it on several occasions and it is a hell of a lot of fun. Other than getting like a used Neon SRT4 I am pretty sure the Cobalt SS is the cheapest way to get your speed fix. My only complaint about the Cobalt is I *HATE* the interior. As that is an opinion though, you rally cant factor it in to whether its a good car or not. I think its a great car, you wont be disappointed.

MboroMarksman4 11 months ago
@MboroMarksman4 COBALT!!!!!!!!!
671hondacrf250r 11 months ago
@MboroMarksman4 The turbo Cobalt is the better of the two from a performance perspective. The only thing you really get form the Civic Si is a better interior (which is definitely an opinion based thing). Your insurance will be cheaper on the Si as well. My brother's old insurance company put his supercharged Cobalt (the one in this video) in the same class as a Corvette, which is insanity. The price of the Cobalt is likely to be more expensive as well, but worth it in my opinion.Test them both!
driftingeric2k4 11 months ago
@MboroMarksman4 cobalt = faster for cheaper civic = nicer overall car. That sums it up easily.

@bustsomeheads I'd say a woman who forgot to bring her glasses since the cars look nothing alike whatsoever lol
driftingeric2k4 11 months ago
The first thing every new SS supercharged owner should do is work on traction instead of going straight for a smaller pulley. The Honda has little torque which makes it very easy to launch. Novice drivers will either spin or dump the SS. Driver makes a big difference. Some 235 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs and OTTP rotated mounts would really help first gear. I could run high 13's on the stock pulley with just a 3" k&n and flowmaster 40. Nice run for the SI, any plans for it? boost maybe?
chevydude2 1 year ago
@chevydude2 Thanks for the comment, and I totally agree with you about the traction comment. I was going to potentially drop the Si for a Forester XT and put some STi goodies on it but I was able to get a really good refinance rate on it, so yes, boost may actually be in the future :D Probably a supercharger to improve drivability since I dont really drag race it that much.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 I like your plan bro. The supercharger sound is a major head turner. Every time I get on it people have a WTF look. Youtube trolls are always crying about how much better a turbo is when in fact it really depends on the application. Comparing the turbo version to the supercharged version of my car is a prime example because of when the power come in. Just a 2.9 pulley will smoke a turbo SS. Not everyone wants crazy HP. Good luck with your car man.
chevydude2 1 year ago
My friends has a 07 si with K&N intake custom headers and k pro smoked the shit out of a cobalt supercharged with and intake. I also depends on the driver and shifting.
diablo93ib 1 year ago
@diablo93ib Kpro helps a ton. If I have one complaint about the Si, it is that the iVTEC comes on a bit too late. I understand why they put it at the 5800-6000 rpms that it is at stock, but since cruising at 70mph puts you at about 3000rpms in 6th gear I think they could have gotten away with starting iVTEC at 4000 or 4500.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 my buddy has a tunned si it isnt kpro but his vtec pops at 3500

I can' tell who won? Was it the cobalt? probably was even tho I'd rather the Si wins. The cobalt looks like shit next to that beautiful fiji blue pearl Si Coupe, The Si just looks more expensive and refined, while the cobalt looks gimmicky and cheap.
xoquixxoqafxo 1 year ago
@xoquixxoqafxo I won (the Si driver). Look for the light that lights up right under the where the times are displayed. The side that is lit is the side that crossed the finish line first. Thanks for the compliments also. She is a good car no doubt.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4
The fastest car isn't always the winner.
xoquixxoqafxo 1 year ago
@xoquixxoqafxo That is true. Besides, if I wanted a quarter mile car I wouldnt pick any of the ones you mentioned anyway. I would probably go with an LS1 Camaro since they are everywhere and are crazy cheap to build. Certain cars for certain things. This is my DD and even my brother (the driver of the Cobalt) will tell you the Si is the better daily driver.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@xoquixxoqafxo how could u make this a vaild agruement, Have u owned the SS before?
savory68 1 year ago
@savory68
I would never own a Cobalt, I've driven the SS that is supercharged, no doubt a quick car and I like the Supercharger whine but the interior is just too cheaply built, the shifter felt notchy and imprecise compared to the 6MT in the Si, and the thing depreciates like nobody's business.
xoquixxoqafxo 1 year ago
@xoquixxoqafxo I agree with you. If I want all out speed I am willing to make some compromises on comfort but given the power differences between the SS/SC and the Si the Si beats the Cobalt in basically every category except straight line speed. For that, I have my Camaro :)
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 do u have proof on this? cuz if you look up track times, breaking times, etc the cobalt out performes the si but if you have links that show this other wise id be glad to say u were right. untill then u are wrong :)
cblt2007 1 year ago
@cblt2007 You are coming into a conversation where we were discussing more than performance. I have agreed countless times with other posters on here that the stock Cobalt SS/SC vs the stock Si the SS/SC out performs the Si. Period. However, in all other categories, it is my opinion that the Si easily beats the SS/SC. However, some guys like fat girls, so there isnt any scientific way of proving it to you. Some people like vanilla, some people like chocolate.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@cblt2007 Also, *MY* Si beats a Cobalt SS/SC in everything but straight line speed. Including those areas you listed because mine is modified for AutoX. My motor is stock, but the suspension, braking, etc are not. I have another straight line car, so my Si is made to handle the corners. No way to really prove that either except what my brother (the Cobalt owner in this video) says regarding our two cars. His is blisteringly fast at full stage 2, but I take corners at speeds he cannot.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 what mods excactly do you have on ur si? and and i was just asking if you had any links of where stock for stock the SI beats the cobalt in any track condition. either straight or turning. actually i believe on the nurburging (spell check) the cobalt has the fastest set lap time in its class at a 8:22:85.. only to be beaten by one car the renault megane r26r which comes from the factory with a roll cage, plastic everyhing to save weight 230hp, bucket seats, no radio, so id say..
cblt2007 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 thats not really being beaten.. but it has a faster lap time. so its the seconds fastest car with a FWD,front engine car. its faster than the STI, EVO, and i know those beat the civic si as well.. so now thats one track. laguna seca it ran a 1:47:75., VIR. it ran a 3:13:00,el toro it ran a 0:45:62, streets of willow
0.96) mile. 1:01.70. now i cant find the civic SI times on these tracks, and the civic type R didnt race these tracks or atleast cant find track times. so feel
cblt2007 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 free to post the times of the civic times on these tracks and then we can see stock for stock who is actually faster. i love both cars. i was very close to buying a civic si. honestly really was. i think they look very nice from the outside. and the inside is very nice. but for performance im sorry but the si doesnt keep up. and thats not so much of an opinion as it is a fact. and untill u can show me facts to that i will not stand corrected. :)
cblt2007 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 ooo and those times are done in 08. same year as ur car. :)
cblt2007 1 year ago
@cblt2007 Mate, I think you have me mistaken for someone who is arguing with you. I am not. The gentleman I was replying to in the other comment we were discussing things like interior and looks, which are entirely opinion based things, and in my opinion, in that discussion, the Si beat the cobalt in everything. I do not have any argument against the cobalt outperforming the 8th gen Si. If you want to debate pick another person. I have already argued FOR the Cobalt many times on this page.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 well i was simply replying to u after you said "Also, *MY* Si beats a Cobalt SS/SC in everything but straight line speed. Including those areas you listed because mine is modified for AutoX. My motor is stock, but the suspension, braking, etc are not." i am not here to argue i like both cars almost bought a civic. and u r right on one thing the looks are something u cant argue becuase its an opinion. atleast u r one of the very few honda drivers that will admit that...

@cblt2007 In the video you are seeing now, nothing. Its bone stock. Still same stock motor though, not even so much as a K&N filter in the airbox. Couple Password:JDM dress up goodies inside and out and a vented carbon fiber hood. Was saving for boost but am looking into buying a house now so I bought a cheap Camaro for my 1/4 mile machine.

cblt2007 1 year ago
@cblt2007 If his SRT4 is stock I would definitely recommend getting the ZZP Stage 2 package. I think my brother paid under 800 for it. Night and day difference. Before his car was "a little" better than mine. Now it straight rapes me. He has raced a NeonSRT4 (stock) before and put a length or two on him easily. Never raced a Caliber SRT4 but I think the result would be identical. We are in northern New York. This video was shot in Syracuse.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 haha na hes not stock but im not sure what all he has on his car i know he has a stage 2 tune and stuff makes more boost than stock but he wont tell me everything. and i pretty much have a zzp stage 2 kit. but i think my pulley is smaller. but that 3" dp and exhaust makes a huge difference when stageing the cobalt. i only make like 14 lbs of boost on the setup im running and im thinking its cuz of the 3" dp and exhaust. but idk im supposed to get it dynoed in feb. so well see...

Big weight difference though.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 ya 250 is realistic for just a stage 2. but with exhaust dp and a stage 2 clutch which my dad says can reduce drivetrain loss by 1-2% sometimes more. so i mean thats a big difference as well. so idk well see and i was grown into a family of 1/4 mil racers and from my experiences atleast the people are pretty friendly. they have a autox around my house on tuesdays that maybe ill start going to it seems fun. so well see. i think its only like 10 bux to.. maybe 20 i forget.
cblt2007 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 right now i ahve a custom stage2 its got a 2.9" pulley 42.5 lb hr injectors, lowering springs, couple dress up in side, stage 2 clutch, 3" zzp downpipe, 3 " magnaflow cat back exhaust, and a trifecta tune. soon to be a custom hpt tune. its ben rainging here the past week and a half when i actually have the money to go to the track so i havent taken it yet. but i know after i did everything to it. i raced a mustang cobra and he wouldnt look at me after the race ^_^....
cblt2007 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 i have it limited out to 7250 rpm and we did a 55mph start. so i was in seconds im guessing he was in 3rd. so i got that quick little jump and stayed at about half a car the entire time up to about 130-140 ( in a closed track location in mexico XD) and he was pretty mad especially after i kept up with him the next time when we launched at 40 and i stayed right next to him. he had gauges up the ass to triple gauge pod full. exhaust for sure other than that idk what he had.
cblt2007 1 year ago
@cblt2007 Hope I didnt come across as defensive or coming down on you, because I am not. I honestly really enjoy getting seat time in my brothers ZZP tuned stage 2+ SS/SC. Its significantly faster than mine and you cant deny that Eaton whine. :D I have no disrespect to the cobalt whatsoever, I think it is a great car and I wish Honda would take note and FINALLY get some factory boost going ;p
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@cblt2007 You dont need to come and tell me all your facts in an attempt to prove something I already agree with. I know the cobalt outperforms the Civic. You were replying to a comment made in a conversation that had NOTHING to do with performance. OK? I have no beef with the Cobalts at all. Matter of fact, I think it is a GREAT car and dollar for dollar an amazing value. Alas, it is not for me. I choose the Si for a DD. If I wanted a faster car, I would have gone with an STi or Evo.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
yea obvs the ss is faster because it is has the addded supercharger, the si wouldn't stand a chance. So it is a bascailly unfair advantage over the si.
savory68 1 year ago
15+ sec 1/4 mile amazing
olgaa30 1 year ago
if the civic came with a stock super charger like the cobalt, the civic wouldve won. but the civic lost only by a few milliseconds WITH OUT a super charger. so the cobalt isnt that much greater cus it almost got beat by a car with no forced induction. besides, most hondas in the USA are built in the USA. we dont get Japanese cars straight from japan anymore. thats so 1980s.
dspec78 1 year ago
@dspec78 Bloody hell. The Si won this race NOT the Cobalt. Jesus dont any of you know how a drag race works? Pro tip- Just look for the dummy lights on the timer poles. The side that lights up - WINS!
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 if u pay attention to the end, the cobalt crossed the finishline first. the time on the coblat was 15.19 and the civc ran a 15.22 i do know about drag racng, been building hondas for 10 yrs bucko!
dspec78 1 year ago
@dspec78 I dont have to pay attention to the end I was the one driving the car. He had the faster time but because of his SLOWER reaction I beat him to the line. The timer doesnt start until you cross the first line, you can sit at the line all day long and the timer wont start. Its called a holeshot win. Learn to race at a TRACK. The Si won. They make it easy for idiots...just look for the light to light up at the end of the track...which sides light lit up? Uh huh...Thanks for playing.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 In other words you beat the chevy's driver although the chevy beat the honda =)
blabolabla 1 year ago
@blabolabla Correct. I make no claims that my Si can beat a stock SS/SC. It cant due to the huge difference in torque. But I CAN beat the driver who thinks that because his car is better on paper that he has it made in the shade.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@dspec78 And in case you are blind (because you also didn't read the times right) the light I am talking about is on the pole directly under where the time displays. The lane that wins has their light lit up. So, simple question: Whose side lit up? Thats your winner. HINT: It was the Si. That I was driving. You haven't got a clue.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
i love how cobalts have to be supercharged to keep up with an Si.... just sayin....
thaguru2 1 year ago
@thaguru2 They dont need that. My 06 Cobalt LS keeps up with them. And the 2.4 Cobalt stomps it without a supercharger!! Honda makes good cars but they are SLOW!!!!!!!! COBALTS RULE!!!!!!!!!
WVCobalt1 1 year ago
@WVCobalt1 Say what? An LS does not keep up with the new Si. Race some people who know how to drive dude. Take your Si stomper to a track and post your time, if its better than my 14.9 stock (or even the 15.1 you see here) then I will recant my statement. Til then, you are racing people who dont know how to drive at all.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@WVCobalt1 ... yeah... i'm pretty sure that Si driver didn't know how to drive. and c'mon... 2.4 litre vs 2.0 litre.... go do the math. cobalt is just a cavalier with a facelift, which needed taxpayers' dollars to continue production.
thaguru2 1 year ago
Too bad the cobalt spun so much at the start. That was a good run for the civic not so much for the cobalt.
7400rpm 1 year ago
@7400rpm That is true. He got it under control later on in the day and was running proper times. I got mine down to 15.1x consistently and ran one 14.9 which is my best time. Neither of us have been to the track since but he is full stage 2 and I am still stock (daily driver). I imagine he is in the 13s pretty easy now. He was running mid 14.4 this day.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
i ran a 14.3 in my si with bolt ons no tune so yea he can do better and so can that ss
cleank2o 1 year ago
@cleank2o This Si was bone stock at the time with only 3000 miles on it. If I had bolt ons I would expect to run that time as well. I got it down to 14.9 stock the next time I took it to the track only difference being an Ingalls ETD set on stiffest setting and playing with tire pressure the whole day.

you could have a civic with turbo and nitrous but the problem is that it is still a civic....support you country ...buy American...
mikeya1009 1 year ago
@mikeya1009 I have an 88 IROCZ Camaro as well. I wont even go into how many "American" vehicles out there are not even remotely close to being American in anything other than the company logo on the front grill.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 and exactly how long have you worked in the automotive industry....you assume the American cars have foreign parts when the truth is gm has over 80% that are manufactured right here...the parts are American and some new model vehicles are built in Canada and in Mexico which in that case 75% of those cars are shipped to the dealerships in their country....
mikeya1009 1 year ago
@mikeya1009 I don't assume anything. A quick bit of research shows that 3 of the top 10 cars made american arent american at all (2 toyota, 1 honda). Thats great for GM - unfortunately for you I didn't mention them and unfortunately for you you just threw that number out there with nothing to suppport it.Besides, last I checked, my salesman (an American) keeps his Honda job (American company) and made commission from my (American) dollars. So guess what? My conscience is clean.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 Also, when trying to convince the public to purchase American vehicles, it would be a better idea not to include a company that needed taxpayer dollars to stay solvent. I have supported the American auto industry. They havent supported me and that is all I need to know. Total dollars I have spent on American vehicles I own is about 124,000 dollars. Total dollars I have spent on the two foreign companies I like (Honda and Subaru) = 57,000 dollars. Your argument falls flat.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 your a schmuck. Hondas are junk and your just mad that jap cars are slow.. And your sad that GM is the top selling company in the world! Maybe you should do some research before you talk shit. OR are you a young kid that thinks he knows it all? Grow up bro and try to respect peoples opinions instead of talking shit.
WVCobalt1 1 year ago
@WVCobalt1 YOU need to do more research. GM is not the top selling company. Toyota is. Freely available info on the internet man, you should check it out before spouting off at the mouth and showing everyone you are a complete buffoon.

@driftingeric2k4 To say nothing of the fact that I own a Camaro. Kids these days....such narrow world views.

@mikeya1009
Buy american? Are you serious? You have any idea the difference between assembled in america and made in america? Chances are, your Ford is made with imported parts.
HellionX 1 year ago
@HellionX And for ford especially, is typically made in Mexico. People believe what they want to believe though. Blind patriotism isn't patriotism at all. Its a global economy now folks, everyone probably should get used to it. My Civic was made in Ohio. My old Ranger was made in Mexico. so....yeah, I dont buy into the whole "buy American" mentality. Our problems didnt start with competititve items from other countries. It started when we offshored jobs to improve megacorps bottom line.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@HellionX and exactly how long have you worked in the automotive industry....you assume the American cars have foreign parts when the truth is gm has over 80% that are manufactured right here...the parts are American and some new model vehicles are built in Canada and in Mexico which in that case 75% of those cars are shipped to the dealerships in their country.... same thing goes to you...no what your talking about before senseless rambling starts
mikeya1009 1 year ago
@mikeya1009
HellionX 1 year ago
@mikeya1009
And don't give me shit about imports because I personally own a 2002 Z28 and a 2008 Civic Si. Both are great cars.

mikeya1009 1 year ago
kinda REALLY slow for that Cobalt SS/SC stock. If you check out my videos, I did 14.48s with stock tires, I was averaging 14.5-14.6s max during that day. 15.3 for the SI... I'm sure you could do better as well because I've seen some running 14.9-15.0 at the dragstrip here. How much were your 60 ft?? With 14.48s, this was with a 60ft of 2.26s...
firepinch 1 year ago
@firepinch I dont recall specifically since I lost the time slip when I cleaned out my desk at home.I wouldnt be surprised if mine were high 2.3's - low 2.4s. I do remember commenting several times to my friends throughout the day if I could just get my 60s down I would hit 15 flat.I think I cut one 2.2x time when I brought the tire pressure down considerably but I lost speed badly on the top end so while the 60 was good, the ET was not. I have better tires now, I should run it again sometime.

Question. What do we classify the Cobalt as. It's not a muscle car, yet not a import. And bear in mind if you mod a car it's a "tuner". So what the hell is it?!!!!
alexhc09 1 year ago
@alexhc09 I would definitely call it a tuner car. Basically I think of it like this: in order to be muscle, you have to be American made with a V8. Most people include "pony" cars in the muscle car category. Imports are really any non-US made vehicle. Then you have Import tuners and domestic tuners which are the modded cars. Then, of course :D there is rice! lol Cobalt's a great car, and I would definitely call it a domestic tuner.

@drewboyfresh Except the Honda won this race.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 Ummmm, if you open your eyes, it's pretty clear who won the race. 15.19>15.39. High five kiddo.
V8Dumyz 1 year ago
@V8Dumyz The only thing pretty clear to me is that you have no idea how a drag race works when a light tree is involved. The clock doesnt start til you cross the line. So, if lane A has a better reaction time than lane B, lane A can have a slower time but still hit the finish line first. For people who dont understand this simple concept they make it simple. You watch to see which sidelights up first at the end of the race. If you open YOUR eyes, you will see my side gets the win. "Kiddo".
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 ok so to get it right the Cobalt SS supercharged (bro) got 15.19 and the Honda Civic Si (you) got 15.39. So the Cobalt should have won cuz he got the lower time meaning he crossed the line before you. Yet you said you won cuz of blah blah..you lost me basically and I was hopeing you could explain it to me. Good job btw I actually searched for "honda civic si vs chevy Cobalt ss" cuz I wanted to buy one of these cars in DEC 2010, but I dont know which one to get. any tips?
godsephro 1 year ago
@godsephro Think of it like this. I have a 20second car. It always runs 20 seconds no matter what. You have a 10secon car that runs 10 seconds no matter what. What would happen if, when the light turns green, you sat and waited for 11 seconds? At a drag strip your ET would STILL be 10 seconds but I would have beaten you by 1 full second because you sat at the light for 11 seconds. The timer doesnt start until you cross the beam of light.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@godsephro To put it another way. My Reaction Time (RT) on this run was .535. So add that to my time of 15.39 and you get a time of 15.925 That is the "Real World" time. The Cobalt had a reaction time of .972, add that to his time of 15.19 and his real time is 16.162. So, as you can see, this race was won solely on the difference between the reaction times. This is the reason why nearly all tracks have a light affixed to both time poles at the end of the track to signify who won.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@godsephro As far as which car to buy: If you are going to be modding it the Cobalt SS SC (or even better Turbocharged) is muuuuch more cost effective to modify. My brother spent like 650 for ZZP Performance stage 2 kit with bigger injectors, smaller pulley, etc and he is putting down like 240-250 wheel horsepower now. For me to do that in my Si I would have to drop 3000$ or more to get a supercharger or turbocharger. In my opinion the Si has the better build quality and is nicer in and out
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 ok that is awesome man I get it now. Ok I guess I'll go ahead and buy the Si, cuz I just like a little zip in my car that I drive. I plan on having this car for a long time, so I heard honda's last past the 200,000 mile mark. Now would you suggest buying a new Si or used? Any particular year is best or worst? I am triing to buy a 09 or 10 Si barely used sedan.
godsephro 1 year ago
@godsephro The 06 and 07s had an issue in the transmission where a high rev 2nd to 3rd gear shift would sometimes pop out of gear so I would stay away from those model years. 2010 was when the Si got a minor facelift, real minor things like chrome accents and a different grill and I believe wheels as well. Buying new or used is a catch 22. On one hand, you know the car hasn't been beat, but on the other, the moment you drive off the lot you lose thousands in depreciation. I bought new.
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@godsephro The sedan has a lot more parts available for modifying the car as well, so if you are into modding that is something to consider. Reason for this is that the coupe only exists in american and canadian markets. Sedan is the only option in Japan and so it gets all the love from the aftermarket. Another thing: driven lightly I get 32-34 mpg but it requires premium 91 or 93 octane gas due to the high compression and high redline. Its like 30cents more per gallon than regular octane
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago
@driftingeric2k4 Totally awesome man, I'm definity taking some notes here. It says in the info "(FG2 197bhp NA) vs ... (Cobalt SS/SC 205bhp FI). " From that I understand the Si puts out stock 197 Hp I dont know what the FG2 is or bhp NA means, but the Cobalt SS/ supercharger puts out 205 hp then of course fuel injected.
godsephro 1 year ago
@godsephro Close! FI means Forced Induction, IE the car is equipped with a turbo or supercharger. NA=Naturally Aspirated and means that the engine breathes the outside air without doing anything to it. FG2 is the Chassis Code for the 06-10 Si coupe. If youre looking at Sedans, the code is FA5. BHP means Brake HorsePower, the power the engine puts out WITHOUT taking into account driveline loss. WHP is Wheel horsepower, which DOES factor in driveline loss. WHP for an Si is around 180-185hp
driftingeric2k4 1 year ago

OH PLUS A REALLY COOL SI THAT I ENTERED TO WIN!! check it out> tinyurl(dot)com/2gx9bvh Just deny that pop up that comes up..Car is sweet except it is a Coupe.
godsephro 1 year ago
@godsephro not sure what fg2 means i think its the motor type.. like a b16 or what not.. as for the FI it stand for forced induction. (the supercharger) BHP equals base horse power. NA stands for naturally asperated.meaning there is no supercharger or turbo charger on the car. hope that helps. any other questions let me know.. like driftking said im not the most knowledgeable but i can work my way around some cars even being 19 ^_^ cobalt FTW! hahaha FTW= for the win =) have fun with ur cars bra
