Billy the kidd in real life was not friends with Pat, what made Pat a good hunter was he had seen Billy in real life which back then there was only 1 picture of him in existance. When Billy went to New Mexico to see his lover Paulitta Maxwell he randomly walked in on Patt talking to a man and Patt shot him on the spot. If Billy went to Mexico he would have gotten away but refused to cross over.
