  • Spoilt by Virginia ( care in the community ) Bottomley

  • so awkward! the song and gina... feel so embarrased she is aussie!

  • Too bad the juries didn't like the song as much as the European public did. If there had been 100% televoting, or close to, this song would have won for sure! :D

  • I bet that must have sounded great in the arena! Great song! :D

  • A great dance routine too, by the two backing dancers!

  • What were they wearing? Didn't they get their washing done on time?

  • When televoting was introduced earlier in 1996. I think that this song won the competition!

  • What the fuck is that guy on about.

  • This would have done so brilliantly in televoting, considering it was in the top 10 in 10 countries across Europe.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG! :D :D

  • HOW SHORT CAN WE MAKE OUR DRESSES?

  • @Jonassoe Not short enough........

  • Why did the conductor bother turning up?? ;-)

  • @Thisisace Because there actually, believe it or not, is an orchestration in this song! Unfortunately, the sound volume of the orchestra was turned too low compared to the backing track, so you can hardly hear it. It starts at 1:53 (strings), during the refrain you can hear it more clearly. The arpecci (eg. at 2:07) are NOT computer-generated, but played by the harp!

  • Lovely extrusions.

  • This is a great 90s dance number. Unfortunatelly, the ESC was too oldfashion back in 96 and so such a dance number had no chance.

  • Mornng gymnastics! :D

  • What is the language in the beginning? Holland?

  • I was still living in England when I saw the UK taking part. Unfortunately my parents due to work related matters had to move to Belgium and so still here. Anyhow this reminds me of my childhood, being the British/English boy that I was :) Bless xxx

  • The winner for me! Love it :))

  • I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS!!! SMELLS SUMMER!!!

  • a top winner

  • bad bad voice and ugly song

  • This woman paved the way for other dance artists in ESC and it made me pay more attention to it after 1996, as the style modernized and eurodance was at its peak in the charts. I was indifferent to the contest prior to 1996 but Gina G really made me open my eyes and ears for it ever since.

  • she looks like Bree Van De Kamp

  • @FunkySpunkster Holy shit, lol, she really does haha :D

  • BEST TRACK EVER in a EuroVision contest. I remember sitting there watching it on tv as a teenager, surrounded by older family members and going like "WHAAAA NOW WERE TALKIN! WOOHOO!!!" (I was totally into eurodance back then)

And the production by Motiv8 is amazing - I love their happy, energetic, cheesy sound;-)

  • I reckon if there had been public voting, this song would have won outright. Great song and singer, I do believe it should have done much better! :D

  • look at that wicked computer 2:20 !!

  • This song is pure cheese but as a teenager I loved it as a party song.

  • Oh ah Hot hot love the dress

  • One of my favourite Eurovision songs of all time. Gina G rocks....

  • Christ, this is bad.

  • @1tealove As in "-ass"? :p

  • @quedasobravo As in the worst thing I have ever heard.

  • man!!! this is a smokin hot video i love it. shake it baby!!!!

  • She way waay off key. Could have been a contender otherwise. Live performance is a bit factor in eurovision that people often forget.

  • Please note the huge unplugged CRT monitors....funny

  • One of the "best" Eurovision songs....and Ginas dress is awsome....

  • the best song ever

  • one of the best in eurovision

  • All I can think of whenever I heart this song is that pervy game... :l

  • it was horrible then and it's horrible now - in my opinion. It's got a got beat, but seriously - this is rubbish.

I never liked the dress either - still don't.

  • nostalgia

  • 1:57 sounds off key..

  • What language is this?

  • @ruantengyi Are you serious? :P It's in English......

  • @bemahfriend No, sorry, i mean what the narrator at the beginning of this clip is saying?

  • @ruantengyi the narratorslanguage is Dutch. (spoken in The Netherlands / Belgium and South Africa)

  • @ruantengyi penis language

  • I Remember When Computers Looked Like That! LOL! They've Changed Alot (:

  • LOL nice computer screens on stage!

  • LOVELY!

  • I don't understand, why did this finish on #8?? She looks hot, the song is catchy, the dancers are great (her vocals bother me just a tiny bit), i dont understand! My mother loves this song she used to listen to it all the time "Play it one more time Jeanette!" *sigh*

  • if televote existed at that time, it would have won for sure ;)

  • @helenadouglas Yes :( I can't understant the 8 place :(

  • Really great! What a shame, that it only came 8th.

  • Great dance song, well crafted; and Gina G's vocals were great too. Brings a lot of memories. To summarize: a classic of dance music.

  • ui a quanto tempo

  • This song, and partly due to the Irish entry, is the reason why we have televoting today. The Irish winner (deservedly or not) had zero commercial appeal and only charted in Ireland after the Eurovision. However, despite finishing in 8th place, this song went on to sell millions of copies around Europe. The EBU saw that the opinions between the judges & the viewing public weren't always shared and, as a result, televoting was trialed in 1997 and widely introduced in 1998.

  • @sross85 Your story is incomplete. Televoting has also had to be tempered in the last two years given that it has also proved somewhat spurious and dubious as a marker of popularity. Block neighbour voting, regardless of the entry, had become rampant and one only needs to take a cursory glance back over the voting tables of the Noughties to see this borne out. Gina G, however, televoting or not, would not have won the competition - her Achilles heel; the fact she had to sing

  • @bobolebien the fact that she had to sing "live" that is. Remember that critical acclaim and popular acclaim do not necessarily go hand in hand.

  • @bobolebien THAT is the complete story (by sross85) EBU have clearly stated the reason for televoting & GG success had the bigest part - AND the fact as Ireland won most of the audience walked out during the final refrain

  • @sross85 In fairness the Irish entry is fantastic! I do however believe we could have sturck a nice 2-win in a row though. And Y'know what's shocking? This year, The JURIES, said that the Moldovan entry, 'So Lucky' - the daftest song in teh contest - was better than ours. We were 5th in the televotes. what does THAT tell you about the 'juries'!?

  • I remember I was laughing a lot when this came up...

  • Has Gina G got a cat?

  • @AndrewTiffin

look carefully you can see her pussy

  • This song always had that goosbump affect on me and no doubt should have won the eurovision that year

  • @luxyaltz219 thats just what i was going to say what crap beat gina that year noone remembers but remembers this

  • I like C.C catch

    more beautiful

  • Great song, average voice.. Anyways, this song really got me the very first time I heard it

  • the voice aint the best at 1.57.....whats an aussie chic singing for the poms for??? WTF???

  • not the greatest singing talent ever but this songs sticks like glue!

  • love thw german guy knowing tht motiva dit rocking with myself x

  • @fitzmauritz The host is Dutch, not German.

  • i used to fancy gina g when i was younger.

  • This song went on to hit No 1 in many countries around the world including the US and UK...........The song that actually won Sank WIthout Trace.......

Its obvious who the real winner was ....

    Go Gina :)

  • @fustyans the only country it was #1 is UK

  • If there would have been televoting back in 1996, things might have been different. Btw: Nice legs, but not a beautiful face!

  • Great song! Gina has GREAT legs my god!! Nice to see some one singing LIVE!!! Great performance all around!

  • too much 95 for a 96 song

  • was 19 back then.

    33 atm.

    damn.

    feels like only yesterday.

  • this was just so great! 12 points for the UK from holland lol

  • Kock Teasers the lot of them

  • my god what a boring looking audience, all sat in their sunday best, thank god its more fun nowadays, ive been to a few eurovision contests and everyone is up dancing these days

  • @garrychelsea Take a look at the contests in 1984 and 1990 to find people who might have been dragged out of a business meeting to the contest. And the standing thing has a bad side, when some of those people block the stage (something that apparently happened a lot in Belgrade). There's nothing wrong with sitting still and taking in the music.

  • @setheurovision94 and none at any of the contests i have been to ever complained bout people in their way, all the stages are at leat 7 foot high, so everyone has to look slighltly up anyway to see

  • LOL at the female dancers.

  • thats ok, it became a smash dance hit and sold more than 1-7 countries combined in record sales

  • I don't get it. What's the story with all you little girls and mincers arguing about where's she's from and who should and shouldn't have won the crappy Eurovision song contest?

Let's get down to brass tacks, shall we? Oh how I'd love Gina to wrap her shapely, muscular legs around my neck while wearing that lovely gold dress.

How does she look now? Bulldog chewing a wasp? Still, the legs must still be great, right....?

  • @spadger131 I spent an hour this afternoon watching a replay of last week's eurovision, and honestly, you would be hard put to pick what year or decade it was from, all a bit like mid 70's timewarp.Half expected ABBA to appear.

  • @tukidream, yes, people that still follow the Eurovision song contest and still think it vaiid remind me of fake neo-nazis of today.

Living in a deluded past that everyone else laughs at.

  • @spadger131 That, right there, is a hideous comparison. Eurovision fans the same as neo-nazis? Yes, we do remember a past we like to cling on to - but a past of music, performances and quality as opposed to racism, oppression and mass murder.

  • @setheurovision94,

Granted, the comparison was a tad crude, but you get my point, right? I mean, present day neo-nazis are about as relevant as the Eurovision song contest and people that follow it. Even in the day when it was popular, the music was crap.

And you say in the past it was "quality?"

Oh yeah, how we all miss Brotherhood of Man.....

  • @spadger131 "Even in the day it was popular, the music was crap". I rest my case.

  • @setheurovision94,

    Popularity a gauge of quality?

In that case, The Nazi Party were bastions of quality given that Hitler was elected democratically, right?

And The Sun newspaper in Britain and The National Enquirer gossip rag in America are both quality periodicals based on their popularity....?

You have too much faith in the masses, particularly as you are one of them.

"Give 'em shit and they'll eat it."

  • @spadger131 Well, the Nazis were voted in on a wave of euphoria.

The Sun newspaper is a bastion of truth and honour here in the U.K. and I've always considered The National Enquirer to be the epitome of jounalistic quality. That and Heat magazine.

And it is my sincerest belief that Justin Bieber will usurp John Lennon and Paul McCartney as one of the finest songwriters of all time.

    Probably.

  • @spadger131 it's a gauge of quality in this case =) you don't need to bring far fetched examples =) =) =)=)

  • @Valtteri2

Generally - and broadly - speaking........

  • @spadger131 Bloody Godwin's law.

  • @smpowis

    Would Thatcher be preferrable....?

Hope there's not a law for that!

  • @spadger131 If would be preferable if people didn't relate Eurovision to some tangent of politics every five seconds.

  • @smpowis First, Nazism comparisons were taboo, now its politics in general.

    I can't win!

And in all fairness, I did use newspapers/gossip rags as an example also. How about some credit here?

  • @spadger131 Who said anything about it being taboo, it's just boring as hell to talk about politics in general.

  • @smpowis But politics weren't mentioned per se; mereley a reference/comparison, and now you're saying politics in general are boring.

And are politics really that boring? Look at Gadaffi's demise. He was a politician, but what a fascinating turn of events that was.

You're a grouch and a dullard who keeps changing the goal posts, smpowis,

And no credit for the Sun/National Enquirer. Is the glass really that half empty.....?

Cut me some slack here, old thing.

  • @spadger131 I have no time for this troll-fest, take all the slack you want.

  • @smpowis You were the one that posted to me (unsolicited, it must be said!), and now you're spitting the dummy and calling ME a troll.

A sense of humour infusion really wouldn't go amiss with you......

  • @spadger131 I have a sense of humour, you just aren't funny. Also, 'grouch' and 'dullard'...are you from the 1920's? Yawn.

  • @smpowis Me? About as funny as cancer. No, it's your dry, pedantic, humorless tone that defines you. When will you spare us all a glimpse of your sense of humour?

And what about Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street, you scurrilous knave, Sire? He's "now!!!"

  • @spadger131 i dont think she is into beastiality or necrophilia, cos im sure going with you would be like shagging a dead dog

  • @garrychelsea,

Rumour has it that you were a necrophiliac until some rotten cunt split on you. You a real Chelsea boy? Is that where you're from?

Get back to me and let me know. If so, then you're for it, my boy.

  • i aint your boy, you some kind of sadist master?

the times of the world fearing americans has long past

  • @garrychelsea,

What you on about, my lad? Fearing Americans? Who said anything about that?

And why won't you answer my question about being a Chelsea boy? I used to go to school with Charlie Cook's kids. In the days when ol' Bonetti guarded the onion sack and Ron "Chopper" Harris struck fear into men. Shit you not.

  • How did this turn into a debate about whether Scotland is part of Britian?

The only reason it is part of Britain is because theres so bloody many of them living in England.

As ive always said, if Scotland is so great, what the hell are all doing in MY home country ENGLAND?

Oooooohh lets wait for the abusive comments ill receive in my inbox now...LOL

But the truth is, that is how many english people think......

  • @fustyans and what the hell are all the englis doing in scotland, even the bloody english queens favourite house is in scotland, and think of all the trillions of pounds made from gas and oil found in scottish waters, seems the english dont mind spending that

  • Best backing dancers ever

  • Is She Aussie Gal???

  • @MUSICROCKS2001 yeh she is AUSSIE PRIDE!! :)

  • Lol I never knew this was an Eurovision song.

  • "The Voice" was Crap!

This song was "Awesome" happy, uplifting, energetic, everything a good song should be...

  • @fustyans Every song??????? Idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • @GaeilgeSpraoi I'm half English and half Irish and lived in England all my life and agree totally that Eimear Quinn - The Voice was a million times better than this and for me the greatest ever Eurovision song to date. Celtic is the magic of Ireland, it's a shame you don't enter more songs like that anymore. What the hell were England thinking letting Pete Waterman doing ours this year it's a joke, we will be back in the bottom 3 with a song so god damn cheesy

  • @Smirkenorff england DO NOT ENTER EUROVISION

  • I doesn't matter who won at that contest, time tells that much better...

  • Not saying this because I'm British but this really should have WON!!! One of my all time fave ESC songs!!

  • @SaNBeanz I'm not saying this because I'm Irish either but I think our song was 1000x better! Eimear Quinn really did sing an amazing Celtic song! Anyway that was 1996, I'm more interested in who'll win this year! :D

  • One wonders how many people have this song and also play this song a lot more than they play or even hear Katrina and the Waves lol

  • The crystal clear winner of the 1996 ESC in my opinion. The winners Ireland had a nice song, but the real forum for that song would have been the Folk Music Festival.

  • Ginatastic... I love this song - AC/DC rocks but this well this is a guilty pleasure cos its actually really good... best Eurovision song since ABBA.. We shouda won it - no question. You could play this song in any club anywhere and it still rocks - well pops - Rock on Gina G... supa....

  • weak.vocals.cheap.looking.

  • her vocals are a bit weak... wonder if it would have won had all countries used televoting?

  • we were robbed! :(

this so should of won eurovision!

  • @ukryan1992

    definately

  • Comment removed

  • Great song, should have won.

  • LOL-ing at the big massive computer the dj is using...hahahah looool anyway it a very descent song..so 90's

  • @hyperbot11 haha, yeah and it is not even on =))

  • cant believe people have time to discuss the most beutifull women ever born and not talk abt the most beutifull ever born?????Gina G is a National treasure.Aussie/English.

  • Fast Show Channel 9 anyone?

    Chris Waddle.

  • Wonderful, very difficult orchestration ;-) [sarcasm]

  • Just like in 1995 with Love City Groove the Brits were ROBBED again in 96, should have swept Eurovision, and I fuckin hate the Brits! - from an Irishman!

  • Fuck off.

  • Yeah, we should have won. To be honest, I don't care who wins, as long as it aint the fuckin paddies!

  • It's been great fun watching the UK entries crash and burn these last few years. Anyone but the Brits.

    Best wishes from Scotland!

  • acshley this entry reached 8th place

  • @ABuchan1954 Scotland IS in Britain you idiot.

  • Wrong! Scotland is (for the time being) in the United Kingdom. Britain is only England and wales. Look it up. You idiot.

  • I did - dickhead:

"Great Britain refers to England, Scotland and Wales in combination." - Wikipedia

  • Hahahahahahaha!!!!

GREAT Britain does indeed include Scotland. Britain - which is what you said - is only England and Wales.

    MORON!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • @ABuchan1954

You do realise that Britain and Great Britain are interchangable names don't you? That they are actually THE SAME THING.

  • I'll try again. It might sink in if I say it for a third time - NO THEY ARE NOT.

If you're so sure you're right, answer me this, dicksplash: why did the term "Great" Britain only come into being in 1707? (Clue: Something happened that year.)

  • @ABuchan1954

I think your being a little too pedantic mate,ha. It might have been the case 400 years ago but today, Britain is said to refer to the UK, Scotland included. If your British, then your either from one of the 4 constituent countries. Plus, if your mothertongue is English and you live in the UK then ask any Brit what constitutes Britain and Great Britain, they will say they're the same thing. Kitcaless is right, they have become interchangable.

  • You mean in the same way that people call a whale a fish?

Anyway, my passport may say British on it but I don't regard myself as British.

  • @ABuchan1954 Poor you. Not admitting that Scotland is part of Britain is just like trying to say that the sky is green!

  • fuck you

  • @gunnerglory I am english and i hate you, you iliterate pillock.

Yet I didnt say I hate Irish men but why the hell bitch about us on here?

    Retarded fool!

  • Maybe because you've been raping my country up the ass for centuries, you're all so proud of your country and your Queen but you can't stay in your own land, you have to ass fuck everyone elses...and illiterate has 2 L's you WANKER!

  • And youtubes a place to spread shit about something that really doesnt really matter in your fickle head yea?

Shut up, get over it and deal with it you stupid useless cunt.

I never said about being so proud at all, its just you think we do, your clearly stereotyping, these comments are about the video.

If you really think I am that stupid, to think that you made that comment about anything other than the video uploaded then your deluded mate.

You did it to provoke, your a dumbass stupid cunt

  • So according to you I'm not allowed express my opinion on YouTube because according to your rules YouTube comments should be solely and strictly about the video, even though I was saying how although I hate the Brits (in general, for reasons I didn't or didn't want to go into) I think they should have won. Plus I was trying to provoke a nation by this. Get it together man. You are talking out your ass.

  • Dutch

  • great song...and she has the looks and charisma of an classic movie star.

  • Her voiced cracked 3 times singing this.Much better in the studio.

  • bollocks to religion then

  • @HAYWAIN63 I agree.

  • freitas regina-great song!!

  • uh ah just a little bit moore please.....give it to me!!!!

  • 5th

  • no, it finished 8th place

  • That year there was (for first time) a pre-qualifying round. In this "semi-final" she finished in 3rd place but in the final she came 8th (due to her performance)...

  • i watched esc all my live. this is the worst dress i have ever seen.

  • Overrated obviously no top 10, As it happened very often with UK entries.

  • @cosdino83 Have a look at your own SUB standard entries pal!

  • Portugal was so much better. And it should have been top 3!!!!
