Queen Victoria was nothing like this. She was a a short, fat little woman with a hook nose and bulbous eyes. i saw one of her dresses in a museum once. She must have been like a football.
@mahler71 When she was older she was indeed quite fat, but when she was a young girl she is reported to have been rather small and nice looking. Perhaps she wasn't beautiful, but she definitley wasn't ugly. Prince Albert, who was said to be incredibly handsome, would not have fallen in love with her if that were the case, and they were very much in love. Why do you think she mourned for the rest of her life when he died? Their letters prove he loved her too, so she had to be quite pretty.
@EnjoyTheMusic242 that's true, I agree with you since her pictures and or paintings of her when she was younger was much different to when she was older. There must be a reason behind this? No?
@VampireWay2129 Yes, you're right. Grief does terrible things to people. If she was truly heartbroken by Albert's death then nothing else would have seemed important to her or mattered anymore. Especially not how she dressed or looked. I mean, if you lost the person you loved more than anything would you even care what you wore anymore?
@EnjoyTheMusic242 I agree. If I were in her position i'd care less about how I look and reminisce about the past. I mean why care about how you look, you lost the most important man in your life. I agree too, when you said that they were both in love, it's annoying when I here comments about how Albert just manipulated Victoria and Victoria being such a...uhm. wrong woman...by the way I have this question that's been bugging me since we first talked. Are you English? Somehow I think you are. :)
@VampireWay2129 Exactly! I don't know why people talk so much about how she was miserable and always wore black, as if it were a bad thing. Didn't she have a good reason to be in mourning for the rest of her life?!! I definitley think Albert loved Victoria, just as much as she loved him. Their letters prove this. It's silly to say he was 'putting on a show' to manipulate her. If he was, he would have had to keep it up his entire life. It's nonsense!
@EnjoyTheMusic242 ahhh our internet went on a vacation :))) I can jut tell, I guess. It has something to do with...I just think I find it easy to differentiate English, from American, from other foreigners using the English language for communication...erm something like that...
can you post the scene where Albert and Victoria had a fight until the part where Victoria was kissing Albert and Albert was telling her "You are my whole existence and I will love you my lat breath." FAVE and BEST SCENES!!!
@EnjoyTheMusic242 oh my yes :))) iloveyou!!! hahaha, this is actually an awesome vid. I just showed this to my friend who very much love this vid and HE LITERALLY SQUEALED.
@EricBree1978 I've only just seen this, but here is what I think. Victoria was stubbornely independent, hated the idea of marriage even before she was married herself and was rather independent even after her own wedding. But that doesn't mean she didn't love Albert, as a partner, even if she didn't agree with the way in which they were 'bound' to each other. She was pushed into a marriage by her government who thought a husband would make her a better Queen. She didn't agree but only obliged...
@EricBree197...to get them off her back. But she DID love Albert regardless and wanted to be with him, even if she did want to reject a marriage on the grounds that she didn't want to be seen as weak and dependent on a man. Thankfully for her, the marriage didn't turn out like that. Albert never tried to control her and Victoria's grief in the years after his death prove that she felt his loss greatly. I just think Victoria was a femenist and therefore against marriage as a concept, because...
@EnjoyTheMusic242 I highly doubt Victoria was a feminist. Just in case you didn't know, she was against women's right to vote. In 1870 she wrote 'Let women be what God intended, a helpmate for man, but with totally different duties and vocations'. Is that what you call a feminist?
@EricBree1978 Okay, so maybe 'femenist' was the wrong word to use. However, I meant to stress that Victoria WAS stubborn and independent and was afraid of being dictated to, largely because of her upbringing in which she was ordered around in everything she did. In adulthood, she didn't want to rely on or be inferior to anybody in general, & not wanting to marry Albert was probably an extension of that. She didn't want to give in to these fears of ownership, no matter what her...
@EricBree1978 ...personal ideas on women's rights were. She may indeed, as you said, have had particular views on women's rights and their role in life. I'll admit that I didn't know that, but she WAS stubborn in her views on marriage, and what I meant to say was that her ideas seem to be very femenist-like. It was basically just the word which most suited what I meant.
@EricBree1978 ...she saw it as a way for a woman to be 'controlled' by a man, especially a Queen. The government even admitted that they thought a marriage would 'tame and domesticate' her, because they thought she was too feisty. She obviously took offence to this. Who wouldn't? But she did fall in love with Albert, and despite her views on marriage, she did ask him to marry her. She didn't have to. She was Queen. She could have done whatever she liked, and rejected a marriage like Elizabeth I.
@EricBree1978 But she didn't. She caved. You could say under pressure from her people and government, but given that we know she really loved him, I like to think it was in part motivated by affection. Perhaps Victoria realised that if she HAD to marry, it could very well have been to someone she hugely disliked, and marrying Albert was the best choice, because at least she had love for him. Sorry, rambled a bit there :)

I love the Victorian era... I love the story, there was some kind of simplicity in it that was beautiful. Also love the singer on the gladiator soundtrack. Faved. :)
@thenovoice don't watch it if you hate it. Really when things like this are put up on videos it gets so annoying because no one is forcing you to watch a video about the love between victoria and albert are they?
Also, I think that Pricess Diaries 2 is an homage to Queen Victoria's and Prince Albert's story. What does everyone else think? Kind of like Avatar is an homage to Dances with Wolves, but in outer space instead of the old west.
From IMDB: One of the bonnets that Victoria uses, is the SAME bonnet used by Jane Bennett in Pride & Prejudice (2005) in one of the scenes from that movie. Not from IMDB: Before their wedding, brides wore different colors for their wedding dresses. She picked a white wedding dress; from then on, high society copied her and they started wearing white wedding dresses. It's now part of our culture; hell, even in Star Wars III Padme wears a white wedding dress.
@AcostaE I heard that too, about the white wedding dress thing. It really is fascinating. Before that, I just assumed everybody wore white. Shows what a true icon Victoria was. She's actually shaped our culture today to be what it is and I don't think many people even know it. :)
@AcostaE You know that when she was young, her mother wanted to cut on financial expenses and decided that Victoria should only wear white, for colors were expensive. Maybe that's why she married in a white gown!
not only where the custumes fabulous but the acting was sublime.. emily blunt and rupert friend deserved oscar nods at least a nom each .. both of them gave massive performances.. the supporting cast where all great.. full marks..
the choice of these two actors for the film is amazing.....I am sorry that none of them were considered for the Oscars this year but emily blunt has a best actress nomination for the GOLDEN GLOBES
I just saw this movie today. Absolutely beautiful! So very well done. Albert is adorable, and the actor actually looks a bit like the real man. Their relationship was so well-depicted, not perfect and fairy-tale, but real and human and deep. Just a wonderful film, highly suggested.
This movie looks to be a good take on the very real romance of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Can't wait to watch it! I'm a history buff so I know I'm just gonna love this movie. Kudos on such a great video!!

"Marriage is the most terrible of all acts."
"I feel sure that no girl would go to the altar if she knew all."
"Marriage is like murder."
"There's nothing more terrible than the first wedding night."
- Queen Victoria
If Victoria was so happy in her marriage, then can you explain why she constantly complained about the terrible trials of marriage in her letters?
