Of all the Animes ive Watched so Far, this is the only one where i watch the Opening every time i watch a Episode... last summer i was in France and spain, and it was so beautiful over there. the countryside is much lighter and friendlier than in germany where i live, and it was sunny and warm^^ the opening reminds me of that time^^ such a beautyfull country, i love spain and france, and i love Gunslinger girl^^ Greetings from Germany, and thanks for putting this up^^
I'm not through the second season yet but I don't quite understand why some people don't like it. Sure, the art style is more contemporary and generally less gloomy and they also used different voice actresses. So what? I still feel that these girls have problems both superficial and very normal and it remains a sad tale - only that season 2 has a more positive feel, making the possibility to get a good end seem more real.
the tv shows for air and clannad had good graphics qualilites but there movies graphics were different but not like bad were they ruined the anime though in there case i liked the tv graphics better then the movies but that doesnt mean the mvie ones were bad so lightn up people creators/producers like to change things up a bit n i liked s2 graphics better anyway not saying i didnt like 1 so if it's that big a deal for you that much then dont watch it

The thing is, this was done by a completely different studio with a different staff and cast. You can't say "the value went down" when it's a completely different product. Other than being from the same source materiel, the 2 shows have nothing to do with each other.
It's like comparing a Broadway production and the same play done by a small local theater. Sure you can compare the two, but you can't say "the production value went down" because these are two completely independent things.
I love this season the most. I mean, Pinocchio was in it. And DAMN. He was hot & his character was amazing ♥ I cried so much at the end and developed some what of a grudge against Triela = A="

BUT ANYWAY.
Both seasons are wonderful people. You still have your amazing storyplots & characters no matter how different apart the seasons are. All you have to do is give time to enjoy and ACCEPT each of the excellently crafted seasons.
Once I got used to the animation change, season 2 was actually very nice. I still prefer the darker, more realistic art of season one than the cartoonish-ness of season 2, but it was okay once my eye adjusted. The one thing that really bothered me, though, was the Henrietta suddenly took on the role of a side character and Triela sort of took over. Once again, not really a bad thing, but there was just so much sudden change - and that, I think, is what turned a lot of fans off.
i think that the main reason people don't like season 2 is because the new animation and being less dark hits like a punch in the face, once you get used to it though its just as good as season one

1st season is definitely better. What I didn't like in the 2nd are the opening and ending songs. Yeah they're nice but somehow they just don't fit the genre of the anime like the 1st. Also, the characters had drastically changed their personality (eg. Rico acted like a brat).
But storywise, with Pinocchio [lol], it's just as good. Art is great too, and it certainly did not look cheap. Season1 just had that 13m yen for each episode so they got more into detail in drawing+coloring.

Well in this case I will agree that liking season 2 over season 1 is a serious problem. The first season had mind-blowing animation, better seiyus, and most of all it dident bullshit the viewer by cutting away from bad guys being blown to bits but insted showed their fate in all its gory epicness
I liked season 2 more than 1 as well, but that doesnt say anything negative about season 1. It doesn't matter if you like season 1 or 2 a little better than the other, what matters is that you like the anime in general.
I have seen a lot of opening sequences, but this one I have to say is the most artfully done of them all. The song and the combination of the transparent layered pastel photo effects is wonderful.
I think the fact that it isn't animation makes it so much more impactful with the message of the human condition. It makes my heart strings pull everytime.

The First OP doesnt suit my taste but by the way it portrays cold emotions with the use of children who doesnt care how many they kill is certainly a perfect product and not this batshit one. @AnitoPictures Artland Animation Studio (a part of Marvelous Entertainment) had ample budget for the project so I don't see how "lack of funds" would make them use a non-traditional, more artistic (and yes, it is more artist in a classical sense) OP. If they truly 'lacked funds' they wouldn't of had the money to produced TWO OP's, so your point is null and void. If you watch both OP's closely, they are parallels of each other presented in different media.

1. Then do it, prove use all wrong by making that video you are so proud of in a month.
2. Arts are very subjective, just because u don't think is artistic, doesn't mean is not. Heck if you study visual arts you will learn that people in the Renaissance period treat some of our so call art today like shit, it changes with time.

Oddly I began the 2nd season before the first. I've been enjoying Il Teatrino quite a bit, and will go back to watch the 1st season for sure. Triela's definitely my favorite character. Thanks for uploading this, 5 stars!
Good series ^^. I really like the 1st season better though. The music and drawing/animation style was really cool and had a more serious/sad vibe to it which I liked a lot.

I can't tell if this is like drawn or what....but it looks really amazing. They put a lot of work into this opening here. I like the music too. It's all haunting, which is great for Gunslinger Girl
The opening was what got me. I never watched, the first season because this one was the one that, was On-Demand so I watched the first episode and was hooked. Triella Rico and Henrietta are probably my favorites, followed by Angelica and Claes. I dislike the handlers. I think Jose is okay but...
I think the girls on their own are probably a lot better. I think I prefer this style, because there leaves so much about the girls I find mysterious. Triella especially.

I actually understand what you mean. I wasn't impressed by the style of the animation or the music, but the story and action were solid and entertaining. Perhaps if they would have kept the first season's styling and music I would have liked this season more.
I haven't seen the second season yet (well just 2 episodes), but many people feel the second season is less compelling, it's more about the action scenes then the fact that these little girls were turned into cold hearted killing machines. But I haven't seen enough of the second season to say that's true. But I cansay Madhouse blew away arthouse with the artwork, animtion, color palette, character designs, frigen everything.
@Sillcherftw i actually liked s2 better. The pinocchio story is more interesting imo because it's not cut and dry, both sides are both good and bad in their own way, which inhibits the watcher from immediately taking sides and identifying the good guys and bad guys. It makes the story less conventional and more interesting. because of this, the ending can produce a mixed sensation of almost equal amounts of happiness and sorrow at the same time, which isn't always found at the end of a series.
@Yeomanv10 sorry for replying to a year old comment but seriously. You should read the manga and see for yourself that S2 was loosely based in the manga compared to S1. Hell, that bridge bombing wasnt even in it and the characters are terribly off their true attitude in the manga

@Sillcherftw You are right, but again thats simply your personal opinion. No one is forcing you to like or dislike anything. One thing is for certain though. A LOT of people me included that you do not change style and art of an anime between seasons. Think about it like this. You watch a TV series and you really take a liking to the main character, get used to him/her. Suddenly for whatever reason they are replaced by another person in the middle of the show.
@Sillcherftw That being said. This anime is very similar. A lot of people got used to the art and style of the characters, also the depressing, dark atmosphere worked REALLY great the first season. That's what people fell in love with. When they released second season its like the essence of the series were stripped off from me. Not many people able to get used to something like. So most who lash out at you or the second season are simply upset and disappointed. I am sure you can understand.

Its very bad for any show or anime series to change its original direction in the middle. Especially if the original direction worked really really well. I watched both seasons, I loved the first one. I had to really get used to the second one and in the end I still wasn't able to. I just watched it for the story - couldn't enjoy it.
@Sillcherftw Oh another thing. I have heard a lot of people claim that second season art is much better than the first. There is a huge difference between Art Style and Art Quality. Now I am telling you this as an artist who likes to draw in manga and anime styles. The second season art quality cant even compare to perfection and fluency of the first season. If you compare art quality season one wins hands down. Any manga/anime artist would tell you the same.
@Sillcherftw : Because the production value went way down to amateur level, and the opening song pales in comparison to The Delgados's masterpiece tune. The story is unchanged which is why it's still good.
I think this is a good series, but come on, you've got to admit the second season isn't delivering like the 1st season did. I mean, the style of drawing is different. that's what threw me off. The guns were detailed and the backgrounds were much more detailed as well.
Man, I love this series. And this song is so awesome. Both openings are great, but I like how for the first version they decided to go with a more artsy, symbolic approach. The song always manages to get me pumped up and excited. It's been stuck in my head since I first heard it.
This is turning out to be a great season/version of Gunslinger girls. I was worried about how moe they look but it has bite. Especially episode 8 "Day in the Life of Claes", that made me tear up at the end! Wow. Remarkable. Can't wait to finish it!

Drugs123, people are flaming on the second season because the creators COULD do better. There were a lot of staff-related changes made, including assigning a new director to the second season. People are disappointed because the second season may not be as great as the first.

Like I told year ago. Quality in episodes have been on lower level than in first season but I think that season 2 approach on the themes or the Gunslingergirl has been a lot better.
First season was mostly action based while 2nd has been more drama based. In another words. I like this second season more. I seen it and I think it is better.
However there are some changes which might not suite well for everyone's taste. I've seen that about 50% of viewers like season 2 and rest just hate it.
Why do you think the first s action-based? It's about cyborg-assassins, so you can expect some action. But it was NOT the main focus. There were plainty of episodes without much action.
the sequel sucks. everything was just too clumsy together. bad music, voice acting, bad character redesign, bad music in contrast to season 1. plus, the human element in the original season has also disappeared. the art direction was horrible. if you are a gsg fan, don't watch it, seriously cause what you're looking for in this sequel has been thrown out of the window. il teatrino's was a party killer for me.
I agree. When I first saw it I was so disappointed. When ruined the second season for me was the lackluster art. I guess they changed artists or had a tight budget. But the character's eyes look different, like a person with a heavy hand drew them. I'm peculiar when it comes to things like this. It is completely understandable that some people liked the second season.

For me the 1st seasons eyes were creepy, the second seasons design is more anime-ish, and less realistic than the first (I kinda dont like that), but overall I actually think the second season is more attractive looking. the other opening is so much better..from episode 7 and so on. SEASON 2 IS STILL GOOD i watched all 13 eps..the first 2 eps seem ridiculously childish but there is this 1 very gory episode with a lot of neck slicing and blood splattering

The opening is about as good as the first. The story is present instead of absent. But the studio cannot draw worth crap, they lose the feel. It doesn't feel like the first season. The girls miss. The girls are vulnerable. The girls have external enemies that are more powerful than their internal ones. It's not the same, it's not a perspective on humans, it's just another piece of combat.

Although it took me a few episodes to warm up to the opening sequence, I like it.
It doesn't have the same feel as the intro for the first season, but given the focus of the second season, I think it's works quite well.

1st: Single shot that was given slow mo effects during fights
2nd. They changes the scene into a landscape during the final shots to avoid the blood splatter
3rd. Still images that are given shake effects to look like they are walking
4th: OP that uses photos than animations
They managed to make the their true animated OP only midway because they finally gained enough support from the viewers.

2. Arts are very subjective, just because u don't think is artistic, doesn't mean is not. Heck if you study visual arts you will learn that people in the Renaissance period treat some of our so call art today like shit, it changes with time.

Oddly I began the 2nd season before the first. I've been enjoying Il Teatrino quite a bit, and will go back to watch the 1st season for sure. Triela's definitely my favorite character. Thanks for uploading this, 5 stars!

Good series ^^. I really like the 1st season better though. The music and drawing/animation style was really cool and had a more serious/sad vibe to it which I liked a lot.
Wish they also had the same voice actors from S1... Well just my opinion xD

The opening was what got me. I never watched, the first season because this one was the one that, was On-Demand so I watched the first episode and was hooked. Triella Rico and Henrietta are probably my favorites, followed by Angelica and Claes. I dislike the handlers. I think Jose is okay but...
I think the girls on their own are probably a lot better. I think I prefer this style, because there leaves so much about the girls I find mysterious. Triella especially.

I actually understand what you mean. I wasn't impressed by the style of the animation or the music, but the story and action were solid and entertaining. Perhaps if they would have kept the first season's styling and music I would have liked this season more.

I haven't seen the second season yet (well just 2 episodes), but many people feel the second season is less compelling, it's more about the action scenes then the fact that these little girls were turned into cold hearted killing machines. But I haven't seen enough of the second season to say that's true. But I cansay Madhouse blew away arthouse with the artwork, animtion, color palette, character designs, frigen everything.

@Sillcherftw i actually liked s2 better. The pinocchio story is more interesting imo because it's not cut and dry, both sides are both good and bad in their own way, which inhibits the watcher from immediately taking sides and identifying the good guys and bad guys. It makes the story less conventional and more interesting. because of this, the ending can produce a mixed sensation of almost equal amounts of happiness and sorrow at the same time, which isn't always found at the end of a series.

More time put into something doesn't necessarily make it better. Neither does a more realistic drawing. I know loads of people that prefer a cartoon like style of animation over live action. I'm sure you can understand what I'm saying, considering you watch anime, which is far from realistic.

@Sillcherftw You are right, but again thats simply your personal opinion. No one is forcing you to like or dislike anything. One thing is for certain though. A LOT of people me included that you do not change style and art of an anime between seasons. Think about it like this. You watch a TV series and you really take a liking to the main character, get used to him/her. Suddenly for whatever reason they are replaced by another person in the middle of the show.

@Sillcherftw That being said. This anime is very similar. A lot of people got used to the art and style of the characters, also the depressing, dark atmosphere worked REALLY great the first season. That's what people fell in love with. When they released second season its like the essence of the series were stripped off from me. Not many people able to get used to something like. So most who lash out at you or the second season are simply upset and disappointed. I am sure you can understand.

Its very bad for any show or anime series to change its original direction in the middle. Especially if the original direction worked really really well. I watched both seasons, I loved the first one. I had to really get used to the second one and in the end I still wasn't able to. I just watched it for the story - couldn't enjoy it.

@Sillcherftw Oh another thing. I have heard a lot of people claim that second season art is much better than the first. There is a huge difference between Art Style and Art Quality. Now I am telling you this as an artist who likes to draw in manga and anime styles. The second season art quality cant even compare to perfection and fluency of the first season. If you compare art quality season one wins hands down. Any manga/anime artist would tell you the same.

I think this is a good series, but come on, you've got to admit the second season isn't delivering like the 1st season did. I mean, the style of drawing is different. that's what threw me off. The guns were detailed and the backgrounds were much more detailed as well.
The opening is nice though, I like it alot.

Man, I love this series. And this song is so awesome. Both openings are great, but I like how for the first version they decided to go with a more artsy, symbolic approach. The song always manages to get me pumped up and excited. It's been stuck in my head since I first heard it.

This is turning out to be a great season/version of Gunslinger girls. I was worried about how moe they look but it has bite. Especially episode 8 "Day in the Life of Claes", that made me tear up at the end! Wow. Remarkable. Can't wait to finish it!

Drugs123, people are flaming on the second season because the creators COULD do better. There were a lot of staff-related changes made, including assigning a new director to the second season. People are disappointed because the second season may not be as great as the first.

Like I told year ago. Quality in episodes have been on lower level than in first season but I think that season 2 approach on the themes or the Gunslingergirl has been a lot better.
First season was mostly action based while 2nd has been more drama based. In another words. I like this second season more. I seen it and I think it is better.
However there are some changes which might not suite well for everyone's taste. I've seen that about 50% of viewers like season 2 and rest just hate it.

the sequel sucks. everything was just too clumsy together. bad music, voice acting, bad character redesign, bad music in contrast to season 1. plus, the human element in the original season has also disappeared. the art direction was horrible. if you are a gsg fan, don't watch it, seriously cause what you're looking for in this sequel has been thrown out of the window. il teatrino's was a party killer for me.

I agree. When I first saw it I was so disappointed. When ruined the second season for me was the lackluster art. I guess they changed artists or had a tight budget. But the character's eyes look different, like a person with a heavy hand drew them. I'm peculiar when it comes to things like this. It is completely understandable that some people liked the second season.

For me the 1st seasons eyes were creepy, the second seasons design is more anime-ish, and less realistic than the first (I kinda dont like that), but overall I actually think the second season is more attractive looking. I do admit though, the whole big eye thing seems to be new for whoever made this anime, because the size is excessive in certain shots.

the other opening is so much better..from episode 7 and so on. SEASON 2 IS STILL GOOD i watched all 13 eps..the first 2 eps seem ridiculously childish but there is this 1 very gory episode with a lot of neck slicing and blood splattering

Both first and second seasons follow the manga, it was a bit of a clincher when they made Angelica look like she died. The first season was more like a "character development" series, but the second is just storyline.

The opening is about as good as the first. The story is present instead of absent. But the studio cannot draw worth crap, they lose the feel. It doesn't feel like the first season. The girls miss. The girls are vulnerable. The girls have external enemies that are more powerful than their internal ones. It's not the same, it's not a perspective on humans, it's just another piece of combat.
So no. Not better than the first.
