That damn crystal may give great power but it messes up people for good.First it turned Zedd to a monster and thousands of years later gave these ugly costumes to the Rangers.It is no coinsidence that people were afraid of Zeo Ranger 5 Red in the final episodes of the series.

Maybe the crystal burned Zedd's skin and accidently merging Zedd's armor to himself. So that's why Zedd looks like someone who's without skin wearing a steel helm with steel exoskeleton. I think.

Actually it was the shield around the crystal not the crystal itself that did that to him.

I really wonder Zedd had the face Thrax in Operation Overdrive before he met the Power Rangers and married Rita. I guess this video kind of explains a little bit about Lord Zedd but not much really. I just wish the writers had gone into more details about his origins.

Well not necessarily, it's not like an official explanation was given, but a few things indicate it if you look far enough. For one, Lord Zedd had a soft spot for dancing whenever he had 'won' or thought he had, i.e The Wedding and The Ninja Quest, which implies that this was a soft spot for him pre-Zedd, and the first thing he does upon being purified is ask Rita to dance.

Also think about their origins: If you look at Dark Spector as the Satan/head-figure bad guy in the Power Ranger universe, you would not have Lord Zedd Rita etc as having just 'existed'. Far more likely that to spread his influence and empire that he went about capturing innocents and turning them evil with magic: This way he could manipulate them and have less risk of a traitor than if he just randomly plucked bad guys out of the sky. Still ironic that he was killed in just that way lol
