No one has any grounds to criticize Jesus until they have at least read the New Testament through Revelation. Otherwise you really don't know what you're talking about. King James version is recommended because subsequent translations into modern day slang hack job English loses much of the meaning. Jesus is love. Relgion is war. Well it depends, i accept everything Jesus says and i get alot of morality from him- love thy enemy e.t.c, and of course i accept things that God says in the Old Testament, like Thou shalt not kill, keep the sabbath holy e.t.c- I'm not saying i deny everything that God says in the Old Testament, but there are certain verses which i do not believe God had anything to do with. And i can't say where all of my morality comes from for definate.

Twice in 2 posts you claim that your ability to see the actions of God as overly harsh comes from Jesus. But Christian doctrine says that Jesus IS God! You're certainly not the first Christian to be unable to reconcile the Evil God of the Old Testament with the more peaceful nature of Jesus. Marcion wrote of the two Gods of Christianity in the 1st century and this was still a point of hot debate among 2nd and 3rd century Christians. By doctrine, God's morality IS that of Jesus.
I think that some of it is justified, and God is also merciful as well on many occasions. However- the reason why i don't accept verses like 'Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood.' (Jeremiah 48:10 NAB) is because God has said Thou shalt not kill- i don't believe that God contradicts himself- therefore by process of elimination, these type of verses are man made and are not from God- this is not cherry picking in my opinion.

I can accept the idea that there is a hidden power behind the scene and what science does is to put some explanations for the deeds of this power. I have experience this myself. The way i see it, you can either look at everything in life as a miracle or everything just as a cause and effect of "scientific realities". To me, life itself is a miracle. For those debating about the bible, Check out my videos. Tell me if the bible is truly "moral" as it tells you to kill your neighbors, sell your daughter as a slave for no reason for life (and as a sex slave), that polygamy is okay, that SLAVERY is okay, the bible even tells you how to beat your slave! The new is a continuation of the old adding all the things to suit the new period that it was written, (in fact things that should have been in the old but werent and had to be added later which is a tad suspicious).

I don't understand... what maks you think that i feel the Lord is too harsh? My answer to your question though is that i believe Jesus is the word of God- however at certain times there is clearly a difference between the Old Testement God and what Jesus preaches, therefore i'd simply have to say that i don't believe the bible is all the direct word of God- i believe some of the words are God's, however i can't believe in a God who does/says anything cruel or hateful.

Well it depends, i accept everything Jesus says and i get alot of morality from him- love thy enemy e.t.c, and of course i accept things that God says in the Old Testament, like Thou shalt not kill, keep the sabbath holy e.t.c- I'm not saying i deny everything that God says in the Old Testament, but there are certain verses which i do not believe God had anything to do with. And i can't say where all of my morality comes from for definate.

What most people don't seem to understand (because they're not told), is that no one knows for sure what Jesus did or didn't teach. Everything claimed of him was in the original documents of the New Testament and every single one of those documents is long lost. What remains are copies of copies of copies which are know to contain "more changes than there are words in the New Testament". We can't know what the originals said. But all of that aside... (cont.)

You want to see God as always benevolent. So you apply your own sense of morality to his actions in the Bible and exclude anything not measuring up to YOUR standards of morality. Is your morality superior to that of God? If so, it can't come from God.

Firstly, this argument of there being more errors than words may be true- estimates include two hundred thousand errors. However, if one word is spelt differently in 2000 manuscripts this is counted as 2000 variants, and for the most part a lot of these changes you speak of are minor things like this. And yes i think that the teachings of Jesus are more morally superior than the golden rule, because in essence he says treat others with love and respect... continued...

I'm not sure from where you received the idea that a single misspelling would be counted as 2,000 errors or even that a misspelling would be counted. Look to the work of John Mill in 1707 who, working with about 100 manuscripts decided to count only those changes which alter the meaning of the text and counted over 30,000 changes. It seems you don't know the nature of these changes so I'll provide you with a few examples.

Do you think "Mark" speaks of a resurrection or ascension of Jesus? He does not. The oldest copies of "Mark" say nothing of either. These accounts were added later by scribes and it was most likely one of these altered texts from which "Matthew" copied and from which "Luke" and "John" copied. The first and second chapter of "Matthew" was also added later by scribes as was the final chapter of "John" and even the parable of Jesus and the adulteress. All added to the originals.

In your comparison of the supposed teachings of Jesus to the golden rule, you're misinterpreting the golden rule. It doesn't say do unto others so that they may do unto you in a like manner. It simply says do unto others AS you WOULD have them do unto you. In other words, treat them as you would want to be treated. Notice it doesn't require that you hate your brother, your sister, worship the rule or offer love on commandment. It's FAR superior to Jesus.

I misspoke when I referred to "Mark" as "he". I should have said "it", because I'm referring to the "gospel of Mark" which was not written by Mark. Nor was "Matthew" written by Matthew, "Luke" by Luke or "John" by John. The authorships were assigned incorrectly by the early church. Some of the writings were anonymous and others pseudepigraphic. There are no first-hand accounts and the original documents are long gone. A small fragment of "John" from 125CE is the oldest known.

So ALL of the resurrection/ascension accounts seem to have come from that addition of scribes rather than any original writing. And the original was a story.

I'm trying to help others understand and grasp. The Bible came to be by purely human processes. We know these processes and NONE of them support the idea of a message from a supreme being. ALL of them support the idea of men writing down their own ideas. That's easy to understand for anyone not purposely trying to misunderstand. There really is only one rational explanation. The author of "Mark" has been traced to an anonymous Roman convert to Christianity. He was clearly not writing a first-hand account and demonstrates that not only did he never know Jesus, he never had any close Jewish friends as he completely misrepresents Jewish practices and beliefs. "Matthew" was traced to Syria and was erroneously assigned authorship around 150CE. Luke is clearly a cumulative work, not a first-hand account. They're all "tales" of Christian oral-tradition.

Twice in 2 posts you claim that your ability to see the actions of God as overly harsh comes from Jesus. But Christian doctrine says that Jesus IS God! You're certainly not the first Christian to be unable to reconcile the Evil God of the Old Testament with the more peaceful nature of Jesus. Marcion wrote of the two Gods of Christianity in the 1st century and this was still a point of hot debate among 2nd and 3rd century Christians. By doctrine, God's morality IS that of Jesus.

I think that some of it is justified, and God is also merciful as well on many occasions. However- the reason why i don't accept verses like 'Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood.' (Jeremiah 48:10 NAB) is because God has said Thou shalt not kill- i don't believe that God contradicts himself- therefore by process of elimination, these type of verses are man made and are not from God- this is not cherry picking in my opinion.

I can accept the idea that there is a hidden power behind the scene and what science does is to put some explanations for the deeds of this power. I have experience this myself. Maybe my culture (Middleeastern) is more spiritual, I agree, yet life is hard without a spiritual side. (If you can't sdee the stars, that doesn't meanthat ther are not there. The stars give us a clue for their existence and DOES GOD AS WELL)

The way i see it, you can either look at everything in life as a miracle or everything just as a cause and effect of "scientific realities". To me, life itself is a miracle. Of course without scientific evidence some people won't believe. But what does scientific evidence prove? SCientists are basing their opinions on the tiny fraction of knowledge that they currently have, remember when that was done before and they thought the earth was flat. When we were babies everything was a miracle.
