They're things like mattes, blue screens, and miniature models, .. techniques which were pretty up-to-date and common and were used in every other sci-fi flick during this period in history. No computer effects though .
I hope this film will never be remake specially with crappy CGI effects and bad ass actors who actully look stupid, don't destroy this movie like clash of the titans and many others,don't destroy my childhood

Sort of like Creepshow. In an age with cutting edge FX techniques like Poltergeist, The Thing and The Exorcist, Creepshow kept it simple, but effective.

I loved this movie so much when I was little. My dad had the LP record of the soundtrack and I could practically recite all of the key scenes by heart before I was 5. Ming is such a pimp in this movie, with his army of bliged-up soldiers and Timothy Dalton is badass as Barin... Best of all to me at least, is Brian Blessed as Voltan. I believe he got it from the Region 2 PAL UK Silver Anniversary Edition (which I also own.) I also own a great PAL-to-NTSC player which is the Oppo 971H.
This was a lovingly redone update/tribute to a serial- a series of shorts, that enticed patrons to return to movie theaters every week to see the continuation of Flash Gordon's adventures. Flash then returned as an early morning/nightly 2-3 a.m. treat to fellow insomniacs and those working second shifts. Yes it does have some "interesting" acting, cheesy special effects and comical dialogue but that's due to its low budget originations as a serial with Buster Crabbe as Flash.

Yeah, never saw it on the big screen but had it on video at home and loved it. You can always buy it online (Amazon, perhaps?).

The movie is old and I remember watching it twice on the bigscreen as a kid but for it's time, it was great. I rent it from time to time just because. Great flick.

Vastly superior quality compared to the earlier uploads. I still recall the TV spots that screened in 1980. Aged 6, I so desperate for my mum to take me to see it!

I loved this movie so much when I was little. My dad had the LP record of the soundtrack and I could practically recite all of the key scenes by heart before I was 5. Ming is such a pimp in this movie, with his army of bliged-up soldiers and Timothy Dalton is badass as Barin... Best of all to me at least, is Brian Blessed as Voltan. Say it with me now: Squadron forty... DIIIIIIIIVE!!!

This is a great trailer - I used to have in on an old VHS tape. glad to see it here.. I'm not buying that new "saviour of the universe" DVD because this trailer isn't on it. Thanks for posting ( and where did you find it?)

I believe he got it from the Region 2 PAL UK Silver Anniversary Edition (which I also own.) I also own a great PAL-to-NTSC player which is the Oppo 971H.

This was a lovingly redone update/tribute to a serial- a series of shorts, that enticed patrons to return to movie theaters every week to see the continuation of Flash Gordon's adventures. Flash then returned as an early morning/nightly 2-3 a.m. treat to fellow insomniacs and those working second shifts. Yes it does have some "interesting" acting, cheesy special effects and comical dialogue but that's due to its low budget originations as a serial with Buster Crabbe as Flash.
