this is why the Russians are amazing at ballet xx my teachers Russian and she is the best teacher I have ever had and I have been doing it for twelve year x
@lindsers122721 Sorry my english spaling not very good. Hi not at 4...9 and if you are good in 10 you are start 1 leval ballet academi in russia and you are staing in school for 8 years, if you are not good after 1-3 years in ballet school thay throo you out.
Note how the students are allowed to experience the positions for a period of time. This is a main element for their successful training. Their bodies must be allowed to experience each position LONG enough for it to be ingrained. We in the west tend to rush through everything, which is a HUGE MISTAKE for it prevents the student from getting a chance to feel it. We are thus only good at preventing students to learn to dance classical ballet.
1- they are so young, you can't expect a kid that age to have FUN and PASSION doing tendues en croix LMAO. 2- this is a technique class; it shouldn't be about having fun, but perfecting your technique. That way when the variations/choreography come around- you'll be able to put more emotion into it because you won't be thinking so much about technique- it'll be automatic.
I think these girls are fabulous! I loved watching their tendus!!
The Russians turn out much better ballerinas than the Americans do. The Russians are so delightful to watch because they know how to use their arms and heads while they dance. It sounds harsh to say that many American girls have acceptable technique, but simply don't have the perfect physique for ballet that the hand picked Russians do. The difference becomes very obvious when you compare the Russians' turn out, extension, and general ease of movement...
Anyone can dance ballet at any age. Almost everyone can dance en pointe at any age with the proper training. However, getting to "pro" when you have only started at 14-15 at the earliest will be extremely difficult. Most professional ballerinas have started VERY young. However, you can always dance recreationally, and there are still some local performance opportunities. You'll never know until you try!
why is this rated only 4 stars? it should be 5. but that wouldnt even match up to how good their quality and training is worth. more like a million stars. beautiful work.
huixue -- as I see it is that for those 100's of year, the Russian children were selected by audition and medically screened for their potential. They were trained by the "state." In the USA, for example, ballet training has always been a commercial enterprise -- you take the students that come to the door with money in hand -- which means that we have to "safely" train many students with little turnout and or flexibility. The physically blessed are at the few pre-professional schools.
@Tutufun01 Medically screened? No. Please don't be ridiculous. I lived in Europe, anyone can take a balet class at 3 or 4 and if they get good by 1st grade they enter a better school than the one they started with. Unfortunately, here almost anyone who takes 5-6 yrs of balet thinks they can teach, that's the problem. The fact that kids learn from horrible instructors. Yes, I'm glad that there are a few academy's in the US where it's worth to attend and learn.
@filmfelineadmin Hi ,I am russian and if you are going to school bolshoi or kirov ballet thay will screen you medically , sorry for my english spaling.
Their upper thighs and backs of legs are working as well as their feet. If the hips have the flexibility, and the girls know how to engage their turn out muscles, the heels should be forward as well. I think some of those pp who complain about this training should post their own dancers up here and we can compare their use of turn-out.
Of course, we can't have girls without the natural hip flexibility opening their feet as much as these girls, but all dancers should work to increase the turnout of the ENTIRE LEG including the feet. Turn out comes from the upper leg/inner thigh, but the feet are involved too. If starting at a young age you work to turn out the entire leg, from the hip to the heel, flexibility and strength will both improve.
These girls were chosen in part for their hip flexibility, for the ability to open their hips, and here they are using their inner thighs and backs of their legs. Those muscles will get stronger as they progress. Look at the more advanced level Vagonava girls before you decide if the Russians don't know how to teach turnout!
Hi Dancingwithoutwords - Dont know if you teach yourself, but if you do is there any chance you could upload a video of one of your classes of around the same age doing similar exercise so those of us who dont teach or dance, but are just interested, could see what you mean
Most of them should work in 3th position, their 5 position is not in line with the knees, that it's a future problem in the joints. They Looks perfect but there are details that should be corrected at this age. I hope...
I´m talking about technique not about history. I´m just saying that it´s not good overpass the natural 3th position. If you care about your students. Many people knows how they select them..and how they refuse them..They are very few natural 5th bones positions, but you can work the muscles to rotate them with the time. The rotation is from the head of the femur not from the ankles, the whole leg has to be andeors, not just the base. You can built a home from the right foundation or just fake it.
If all these vaganova girls were getting injured bc of their training, you think the Russian pedagogical tradition would have lasted hundreds of years and produced such beautiful dancers with long careers?
I think that if this is a exman, maybe is june or may? so technically they have been in vaganova academy around 9 months..nine months of dancing and they already have lovely posture, turnout, port de bras, leg extension and strengh!?!!?! the answer is russian method!
Slight variation in the second port de bras. I had learned that the eyes follow the back hand, and then look up just before bringing the hands to first position. Interesting.
simplemente una hermosura

When you took an exam in school or anywhere else did you want to make mistakes or did you want to be perfect at what you did?
All I know is when you love something you want to be good at it :-)
