I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Robbie (middle) at her restaurant Sweetie Pies yesterday..She a very down to earth, warm person and she deserves all the success she has had with her restaurant!! The food is great as well as the service!!
@Nanadsyl Ha well Chicago is my hometown and I live in Georgia(ugh) lol! Anyway I've gotta go to St. Louis when Im in that area again!!! I love Ms Robbie her family and the workers at her restaurant. I wish I could work there for one day!!!
@Theariesbabi94 Nope, Little Eva's Turkey Trot on YT, via GaragePunkNYC on facebook. I have this single, from a yard/flea mkt somewhere in my former life
Okay, so while all this good stuff was happening in Los Angeles, or to say, southern California just what was up with San Francisco at this time? They seem more drugged out over there.
If you catch the right Shindig episode, you'll find the host, Jimmy O'Neill, stating how the Ikettes received the most "return-performance artist appearance," requests, even surpassing the popularity of the Beatles' appearance. The Ikettes were on for a couple of weeks as replacement studio backup singers while the Blossoms were "on vacation." And mind you, all requests received were done by letter and postcard back then... no cell phone texting, no internet, no 1-800 phone numbers. Wow!
@BestMusicExpert ... No, Ike is not performing with the Ikettes on this appearance. Ike Turner never appeared on Shindig. It was either Tina solo (backed up by the house backup singers, the Blossoms -- Fannita James, Jeanie King, and Darlene Love), or the Ikettes without Tina. If you can "hear" Ike's or Tina's voices (on "Ah-ah-ah-Peaches"), they were likely dubbed in.
@BestMusicExpert ... In the Ikettes' 16 years as a "group," Ike would employ as many as 9 Ikettes at a time... 3 TV (clean-cut) girls, 3 recording studio girls, and 3 tour girls ("the Review"). They were interchangeable, but yet each one had to be prepared to replace or be replaced. They all had to sing, dance, and perform live, shake, bump, and grind like wild women, yet be poised and lady-like in public. Go figure. Ike was a perfectionist brute and jackass, but a genius, I mean LòóK!
@SouLoveReal Ike was a genius. I was pissed at Tina when he died for being such a bitch about him. She could have just as easily released an I'm sorry to hear of his passing statement, instead she had a bitchy one released. If not for Ike, NOBODY would know who she was!
@Desiree50 ah, I see. Missed that post from me, just the other 2 and got confused. It is true. I also don't believe he was as bad as she claims him to be, the movie was amped up worse too!
@SouLoveReal You are so right! Female performers had it so tough in those days. In this clip there is no doubt in my mind who the stars are it is those women, The Ikettes who ever they were, (at the time) Cheers Lord Thorpe (the first)
WOW!!! this is such an awesome video...i remembered all them songs...dick & dee dee were one of my favorites too...brings back so many memories_AGAIN!...well cant help it, they were good times...thanx nyrainbow5 for posting...LU LUV LUVed it!!!!!
@jojobug45 While the Marvelettes were amazing, they weren't nearly as wild as Tina Turner and Ikettes.Really the first of the Girl Groups to move so wildly. You're right my friend.
The ikettes is my favorite girl group !

They look like the singers that magically appear in several scenes of "The Little Shop of Horros", Ronnette, Chiffon, and Shirelle...

@SouLoveReal They aren't miming? I know Tina wasn't on most of the Ikettes recordings but I know Ike was on most of them (Any with a male voice)

the ikettes were like the first girl group to actually move on stage, and not just hand gestures. Same with Tina Turner.

@jojobug45 The Marvelettes actually did quite a bit of dancing!!

@THEKAYLAJONESSHOW
yeah Marvelettes had some pretty good moves too. I guess i just think of Tina with the ikettes and all that flowing hair dancing their assess off.
