I did not assume that they would because that's a hell of a journey for anything/anybody. Fortunately they all survived. I have two great kids and three healthy grandkids. Yet if my daughter or my son and his partner had considered abortion then I would have supported them in that decision. As I supported friends who made that decision for a whole host of reasons.

jcr, You are correct that nowhere does God specifically accept his offering. It is implyed by Judges 11:32. First came the offer and God did nothing but, "delivered them into his (Jephthah) hands". God said nothing, even when he knew what was going to be done if God let him win the war. And it's not similar to the story of John the Baptist. If Jephthah's actions were a violation of God's law then can you tell me why in the book of Hebrews 11:33 it says Jephthah, "Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions." I see no claimed violation, just murder of a child that is pleasing to God.
It also says: "By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace."

Have you read the bible for yourself instead of being told what it means? Probably not. Judges 11:31-40 makes it very clear that he did indeed offer his daughter as a burnt offering. He promised god to sacrifice the first thing that came out of his house. He gave his daughter 2 months to say her goodbyes.
She never married & was a virgin (Verse 11:37-39) because she was sacrificed. Verse 11:39 says very clearly, "...AND HE DID TO HER VAS HE VOWED..."..........

I agree with you on this. I think that 'God' is not a being but an essence and LOVE seems to be the strongest it brakes every barrier that faces us in this life and beyond. The amount of murderous atrocities that happen in the name of GOD speaks for itself. Anyone who claims to believe in God and then murders is destined for misery in all levels of life here and beyond.

jcr, You are correct that nowhere does God specifically accept his offering. It is implyed by Judges 11:32. First came the offer and God did nothing but, "delivered them into his (Jephthah) hands". God said nothing, even when he knew what was going to be done if God let him win the war. And it's not similar to the story of John the Baptist. That was an oath between two people not between a person and God. Again, thanks for your reply.

If Jephthah's actions were a violation of God's law then can you tell me why in the book of Hebrews 11:33 it says Jephthah, "Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions." I see no claimed violation, just murder of a child that is pleasing to God.

The Bible is commending Rahab for her faith, not for her prostitution. In fact, all the people mentioned in Hebrews 11 committed sin -- in fact, some committed very grievous sins -- but to say that since the Word of God commends their faith, it also justifies their sin is a strained leap of logic.
Any thinking person is able to see that.

I still do not understand how it is OK to offer your daughter to God as a burnt offering. The way I read it, an offering that God accepted. Jephthah won a war and then killed his daughter and burned her as an offering to his God. Sickening!

Nowhere.
In fact, God commands against swearing false oaths. Read Matthew 5:33-37!
Jephthah's false oath is similar to the NT account in which Herod promises Salome anything she would request. She asks for John the Baptist's head on a platter and Herod reluctantly gives it to her.
God does not require falsely sworn oaths to be honored, especially if they require sin -- in this case murder -- as a fulfillment.

All through out scriptures God made it very clear he is against human sacrifices. So before you start accusing people of throwing stones it maybe a good idea for you to do some research on a subject before posting. Actually it is a very good idea if you read the bible. The only way to understand ANY book is to read it for yourself.
