I'm very happy to hear of your love for our country and wanting to contribute to our society! There are a few Web/Graphic Design companies in Laos that could use your skills. With your credentials I don't think you will have too much trouble in finding a job here. Let me know if you visit Lao again and I can definitely introduce you to some companies. Good Luck and hope to see you in Laos!
Great videos bro! You're living my dream. Like you, I was born in '77 and came to the US in 1980. I've been back 4 times since and last time was Dec '09 to mid Jan '10. Something struck a cord in me and made me truly think about moving back for good also. My dad retires next year and wants to move back for good, so I'm looking at what kind of opportunities there would be for me as far as work, besides teaching English. I've got a degree in Web/Graphic Design, think they'd hire me? My Laos is OK.
hey brother: Siharat, have you got an e-mail address? I am coming to Laos too...would be good to catch up with you- I love all your videos! and would also be interesting to learn more about your life in Laos
@boonemee I went there as a trainer but ended up being the Senior IT manager. Lots have happened over the years and I am still in Laos but now doing my own business as a web programmer. I realize it's been a long time since I've posted a video and update but I do have 2 more videos to share very soon. Thanks for your question.
@siharat .. good, in term of businesses in Laos I believe IT, Telecoms, internet, wireless are fast growing secter, how fast is the internet in Laos?,. how about doing business with foreign investors who wanted to do with businesses with Laos, or working for lao government what type of positon you may have? other things you can own like touring, lodging and small banking businesses... well when to focus about businesses we need to understand that the consumers/customers are limited and poor.
Internet in Laos is a bit costly for the speed compared to the US. For eg. a 128k speed is about $50/mnth here. Right now the popular Internet is connecting a USB G3 tech to the comp. There are diff prices with competitors but I still consider it costly.
I don't have much knowledge about doing foreign and govt business. My business is focused on my US clients but working from Laos. IT in Laos is growing very fast and I think you'd be surprise with the prices clients are willing to pay.
@siharat .U moved to Laos voluntary on your own, your US clients are based what type of business? pay?. Internet 128k speed is poor but wireless USB 3G modem + router - how many PCs/Laptops that we can connect to it? In USA 4G just came out Jun.10 under WIMAX , LTE 4G will be out early next year. My background are: IT, banking & understand well withGOV./political issues. Laos is most corruption nation so is USA. I'll be retired in2017 pension from BofA, 401k, +investment & I will be OK in laos.
@boonemee Yes, this time I moved here on my own. I do web data mining and web development. I haven't tested the 3G much so I don't know the performance with the number of computers. Seven years until retirement. Laos would be a great place to retire with your pension and money. My dad gets full retirement here in July and I have plans for him to visit Laos and see what he thinks.
@siharat . Yes, Laos is great place to retire and it is also my hometown, I am single parent when I am done taking care of my two children then I'm home free, my son will be graduated from college in 2017 he will be an army officer as second lieutenant, my daughter will probably be 2nd year of college at that time and also my house(worth 200k) will be paid off at the same year(2017) will sell the house, take all cash to invest in Laos/thailand. I'ill say good bye to land of free & lonely place
Great video! Thanks for shearing and best of luck staying in Vientiane. It has been 34 years since I left Vientiane, Laos. when the time is right I will return to our homeland Be safe.
WOW!!! I love this vd.. I'll there in December hopefullly nothing comes up in the way.. I am looking forward this this trip.. I haven't been back there since 80's as well.
thanks for this vid, I have been at that site dozens of time but never have the courage to go up to the top. Someone told me there's nothing up there but old coffins and ghost..sigh, you think i'm old enough to get over that stuff by now.
special request, on the next vid, please intro some poosao too k..5555
Yes I am 110% kone Lao. as my nick suggest: mukmaiharng- meaning I like single mom...heehe
Just got back in Feb. I don't spend anytime in VTE as I do not know anyone, so I just head straight to Savanh where my family live. I came here by myself in the late 80s in my teens.
Saving up for early retirement in Laos. I plan to work pt volunterring at the orphanage or public school for free. Hopefully i'll have snough Benjamin so that I don't have to worry about having a job.
The best time for cool weather is in Nov - Dec. There are advantages and disadvantages in visiting during that time as any other time. For example you will not be able to experience the rivers and caves of Vang Vieng as it would probably be too cold. But in general that would be the best weather for you.
I am still trying to pursuede my parents as they feel it is difficult for them due to work and at first there was always something that made the visit too difficult for me. But I believe once you make the first visit you will see all those difficulties are really not that hard to get around. Good Luck.
Lao does have plenty of bathrooms. When you go to an eatery you may use the restrooms without paying. Same as in the US where some public restrooms may cost 25cents. Here in Lao some public restrooms cost 1,000 kip equivalent to about 10 cents. Trust me, as much as you may need to use the restrooms you won't get broke from it ;)
That's great that you want to help our people. Keep up the good work! How did you get the job? Where will you be teaching at? Love to see more sites, if you get a chance. Been to Laos twice but was more in the country. Not a lot of people would have left the civilized life behind, so you must really have the passion to help Laos. :) Keep up the good work and will continue to watch your clips. I plan to visit Laos again soon.
sabaidee-I like all your vedio that you have shown so far. I love to go back home again someday. I went visited Laos back in 2003 and don't know when i will be able to have the opportunity again. keep up the great job.

I like your westerner perspective on Laos! I'm Laos but born and raised here in the US. I've never thought about going to visit Laos but you make it look very interesting and pretty modern!
I understand how you feel as I grew up in the US since I was three and didn't really think I could live in a 3rd world country. But, Laos has places and a nitch for everyone. There are Westerners that love the place enough to spend the rest of their lives here. And you, yourself might fall in love with the place as we have. Definately should visit :)
