I think Beethoven's achievements were greater than Mozart's because he was deaf. He might deserve more credit for his achievements, but Mozart's music is beyond perfection, it's majestic. My personal choice is Mozart all the way :)
Beethoven visted Vienna in the spring of 1787 at 17, but remained there a short time; he was introduced to Mozart, and played to him at his request. Mozart was somewhat cold in his expressions of admiration. Beethoven, noticing this, begged for a theme for improvisation, and, inspired by the presence of the master he revered so highly, played and gradually engrossed Mozart's whole attention; he turned to witnesses and he said "Mark that young man; he will make himself a name in the world!"
I truly believe that Mozart is the greatest musician, composer that has ever walked this planet and that Don Giovani is the greatest piece of classical music ever written and the Magic Flute the most beautiful.
I prefer mozart, because even if mozart was a deaf like beethoven, he would have still made same perfect qualitied musics since mozart is absolute pitch
This is silly. If your going to compare, do not lopside the competition! I think I heard 10 seconds of Mozart to a minute and a half of Beethoven. And like andrew582 said, it is ridiculous to compare the two, as Beethoven had the convenience of having Mozart (and Hayden......and Bach, and everyone else......) to study. Though your choice of Mozart's flute and harp concerto moved me.
Listen to Mozart's Don Giovani Overture, and you'll find something unprecedented: The Silence (a pause) as an element of the music itself. This later became a tool of Beethoven -notably the 5th Symphony- and all others after him. Let's also remember that Mozart's music was much more compromised to the tastes of the nobles, etc. Beethoven was much more free and died single. You could tell there is more 'feeling' in Beethoven's music but that is no reason to disregard Mozart's amazing innovations.
It's silly to cmopare the two, Although one of Beethoven's greatest influences was Mozart and one of Beethoven's most popular pieces the 5th Symphony was based on Mozart's Symphony No.40 in G Minor. But I don't think I would compare the two, They were both geniuses way ahead of their time. Although I personally prefer Mozart.
Mozart! No other composer can take me to such a level of ecstasy. His music is pure beauty... I don't even know how to describe it... his music is so perfect, so pure, so beautiful that it makes me cry <3
Albert Einstein said: ''Mozart is by far the greatest composer. Beethoven "created" his music, but the music of Mozart is of such purity and beauty that seems to just "found" always existed as part of the intimate harmony of the universe, waiting to be unearthed''
This is a ridiculous video! Without Mozart and Haydn there would be no Beethoven. Further, Mozaart's last three symphonies took 18th century music to its ultimate glory. Comparing Mozart's 40th to Beethoven's Fifth is absurd. They are both masterpieces. Thank God we don't have to chose between them. My take: Mozart is glorious, Beethoven is awsome but Schubert is my friend. I revere them all.
Yeah and without the people who created instruments neither Beethoven nor Mozart would compose. The fact that someone created some (maybe) necessary part of the "puzzle" does not mean that he owns everything that comes after that. That is what is absurd. Also it is not absurd to compare 5th to 40th. If you could not compare you would not know they are masterpieces. What is pointless is stating opinions as absolutes.
im sorry the music is great and all but everytime i look at the pictures i get the creeps because of how (to me) one looks like he's freaking glaring at you and the other one has a rape face. AGAIN! sorry if it offended anyone but the music is great :)
Could anyone imagine writing this music DEAF with no ability to hear. It was rumored that he had to put his head to the ground just to feel the vibrations of the sounds the instruments made, to make sure they were correct. Beethoven hands down is the greatest composer of the Baroch and Classical time periods.
Hello does anyone know the name of this piece: go to howarddavidjohnson dot -com and click on the link: Studio Photography. Use Internet Explorer because Mozilla disables the music (java). Thank you!!!
Historically it cannot be denied that Mozart influenced the next generation of composers such as Beethoven. M's latest symphonies opened a new page in music: Romanticism. He wrote many operas, unlike B. who only composed one. M. was genuinely a child genius whereas B.'s father's attempts of promoting a young B didn't go down as well as it did for little M. M'd already finished the compositions on his head, B had to make corrections. M lived 35 years; B lived over 65. Go figure :P.
I dont think there can be a definitive anwser to this. I think the choice is personal. For me Beethovens music just resonates with me more. His music was darker in my opinion. It channeled more primal emotions. His command of mood was unmatched I feel. Mozart was no less a genius, just different. He was also from a different time. Mozart probably has a wider appeal. Mozart was probably like the Beatles of his time. Beethoven was like Slayer.
Beethoven was a genius, Mozart was a miracle! Beethoven was able to create one of the most famous symphonies (his 5th) with two notes 1:52. For such a piece Mozart had needed the same time or even more. The pieces of Mozart are so lighthearded and clear and easily to understand. So I think you could not compare apples with oranges. Both men were amazing. I am proud of it to live in Austria were these guys became famous.
Don't compare them. It was so easy for Mozart to compose - heard it all in his head. Beethoven sometimes took years to finish a symphony. Two incredible musical geniouses the whole of Mankind can be proud of - otherwise not that much we as homo sapiens can be proud of....
@tomfroekjaer Apparently the Danes like to make dense comments. Although they were great musical geniuses, their status today is certainly inflated in comparison to other great composers of the past. We owe so much to our musical progression than just Mozart and Beethoven, and this comes from a person who adores and is in awe of their compositions.
@tomfroekjaer That's because Beethoven was an extreme perfectionist; he was known for throwing out an entire piece if he thought it wasn't just right. Mozart made everything and all to make money. Beethoven is more artistic, emotional. Mozart is more intellectual. That's where I think the difference reigns.
All factors apart, both have composed works of unparalleled beauty.
@tteu123 Now that we have started comparing.True, Beethoven was a perfectionist ... and of a different period. His music gradually became more to him than just the music. It became a means of expressing romantic ideals. The Romantics believed in allowing their imagination and passion to soar spontaneously and interpret it through their works. This was different from the Classical belief of logical order and clarity (Hayden, Mozart). The turning point was the 3rd Symphony.
@tteu123 There is a good article on Wikipedia about the 3rd (Eroica).
I do not agree with you that Mozart made music in order to make money. He was one of first "free" composer, defying his father to return to his employment at the Court of the Archbishop of Salzburg. He went to Vienna in order to compose the music HE wanted.
One should not be fooled by the apparent simplicity of Mozarts music. E.g. a pianist without grasping his music will sound like a 5 year old ...
@tteu123 ... by accident creating a nice little tune. It is very difficult to play Mozart as you have to grasp it fully and play subtle emotions/musical ideas that could not be captured by the notes. Only interpreted by a master the true ethereal beauty is revealed.
Beethoven is very direct with unconcealed human passion.
I'll end off with a quote from the young Beethoven having attended the rehearsal of Mozarts 24. Piano Concerto: "Ah, we shall never be able to do anything like this."
@tomfroekjaer true, Mozart called writing the music down "copying" The music was ALL in his head. And lets not forget Beethoven wrote some of the most intense, complex music when he was deaf
Anyway, it seems you were looking too much for popularity in the choise of Mozart’s songs (why the Confutatis, which is widely apocryphal, instead of the Introitus?). I am sure you got sequences from “Amadeus” (voices are heard, too!).
Then I feel Beethoven little advantaged in this particular comparison, even though the 9th symphony is actually repeated at 7:08!
I do not agree with this way of doing.
Please go past “Amadeus” and discover the true Mozart.
I like Beethoven better because I always feel that he has more powerful feelings put into his music. I see so much strength, power, feeling, and mystery in his music. But don't get me wrong about Mozart, I mean he was a prodigy, and his Confutatis gives me the chills every time I hear it.
I have always preferred Beethoven, but I love them both & both were absolutely incredible & beautiful. There are days when I feel more like Mozart than Beethoven- Each had their own style. When I hear Beethoven, I hear a perfectionist harmony that makes me feel intense power, sadness, & beauty. When I hear Mozart, I hear vibrant happiness, but also a prodigical intelligence and with certain songs, extremely sad beauty. Beethoven went deaf, Mozart was poor & much less famous. Neither had it easy.
You cannot compare genius....... all is one connected, one not better than the other within the universival consciounsness. It is good to recognize humanity through the wonderful music they created and all those who appreciate their music and understand it's value. Let us not forget... Johann Sebastian Bach who was their idol...to me he was the master.
there is no comparison, mozart is like a god of music, even beethoven himself was in awe of the master, they are from different times, nothing compares to mozart, and mozart regarded J.S Bach very highly
Beethoven was spwned in Mozarts shadow. They both made fantastic music, that will live on forever. Personally I like Mozart just a little better, but I like some Beethoven peices over some Mozart peices, so it just depends. In all honesty, we sholdnt compare these two musical geniuses, we should just listen to their music and let their legacies live on.
I think they are not comparable, BUT if I have to say........... Mozart 100%.

I do not agree with this way of doing.
Please go past “Amadeus” and discover the true Mozart.

Beethoven is the strongest and most powerful musician that ever was. He defines every emotion and and every feeling known to man.

I like Beethoven better because I always feel that he has more powerful feelings put into his music. I see so much strength, power, feeling, and mystery in his music. But don't get me wrong about Mozart, I mean he was a prodigy, and his Confutatis gives me the chills every time I hear it.

Mozart was always my favorite, but Beethoven's Symphony No 5 doesn't seem real!

Music of high quality is a matter of taste. and mood.
Just like food and wine..
Some food I prefer over others and with that I like a ceirtain wine.
Tomorrow I might change my preferences...
They are both legends and you can't really say one is better than the other.

I love them both for different reasons and I can't choose between them, as they are both my favourite composers.

there is no comparison, mozart is like a god of music, even beethoven himself was in awe of the master, they are from different times, nothing compares to mozart, and mozart regarded J.S Bach very highly
