only mariella devia and edita gruberova are able do this piece justice, IMHO. their techniques are so perfect it allows them to create interesting characterisations. Bravo!
So, she slightly grazed the high e. What's the big deal, maybe she choses not to sustain it longer like other singers do. Maybe she was having an off night. Who knows? But, I do know that her voice extends higher than the e and I know that she's able to sustain notes higher than e for a considerable about of time. Generally speaking, her voice is glorious.

With a wobble and hooty tones, this is a VERY poor version of Caro Nome. Listen to Pagliughi to understand how it should be sung or even Lyana Grani on YT. This is so typical of sopranos today who haven't the vaguest idea of what constitutes great singing.
What you do not know about the art of singing is a lot. I would avoid writing silly things about artists who have been singing belcanto roles in Italy for over thirty years, if I were you.

OMG dude...you do not what you are talking about. Mariella is one of the best of sopranos in the world..this may not have been her best performance but her other ones are nothing short of spectacular.
have you looked at the music... the "wobble" was a trill...it's written in the music. she is very talented and i'm not sure what you think is "hooty". She does a fabulous job with this amazing and difficult piece.
well she couldn't have sung the high e even if she wanted to, could she? the part with the optional high e comes after where they ended in this performance, in a kind of "epilogue" to the aria - usually left out in unstaged performances of the aria.
She is actually a bit like callas actually!! I like the way that she sings and also her acting!! And she is pretty!!! She is one of the best in this competition!!! E is not important!! Lots of people do not sing it and verdi did not write it anyway!!!
Devia's best Verdi role in my opinion. I love her expression of happiness and how the voice flows, how the notes are clean and the words always distinct. 5/5
This is an intelligent, thoughtful interpretation of Gilda as well as an expressive one. Devia (similar to Callas in this aria) uses a vocal color to paint an enraptured yet knowing Gilda, who might indeed sacrifice herself for her lover if need be. 5/5
Flawless. She rides the melody with care, she sounds as though she understands Gilda as more than giddy schoolgirl. So expressive, so moving. Minus the long trill at the end, this is perfect. 5/5
Devia's dark, rich sound is most welcome since I've never cared for ultra-light voiced Gildas. She is techically excellent as per the norm, and her phrasing is delicate and musical though not incredibly exciting. Singing : 5 Characterization: 3.5
Wow, wow...
Perfect!
She is one of my favourite singers.

She just can be beat. Top of the A-List in the lyric coloratura repertoire -- the control and color in her tone are exquisite.

Pianissimo is good. The rest is a bit too heavy for my taste in this role.

Next to Callas, this is Gilda. Not many sopranos capture this aria like Devia. IMO the best by far. Of course I love her, what a wonderful voice. 5/5
