I really dont get why Jaco, Geddy, and Les come up in all these bass vids and archives. There are alot of ways to play the bass. I highly doubt that Les can play with the muscle, attitude and crunch that Mike Dirnt plays with. Likewise I doubt Mike Dirnt can play with the funky groove that Les has going slapping a fretless 6 string. To every bassist his own. Yes I am influcenced as a bassist by Jaco, Les, Flea, Rob, Cliff, Geddy, Feildy, and a gillion others. But my main influence is Mike Dirnt.

Les already plays with the muscle, attitude, and crunch. He just does it better than everyone else. Mike Dirnt isn't anything special. Mike Dirnt wrote a couple good bass lines/ Les Clapool has a dozen albums filled with amazing bass lines. But you really shouldn't compare Les with Mike. If you want to compare than it should be Matt Freeman (Rancid). Listen to Maxwell Murder by Rancid. It murders any of Mike's bass lines.

Well yes that is a good bassline and a killer lead solo. But thats once again two bassists that cant be compared (btw I wasnt comparing les and mike I was stating how they are there own) And sure that song has a good lead bass line, but Mike's style is really good at carrying the song. And he has a very signature sound. Technical virtuosity does not define a good musician.

No offence but playing through a guitar amp ain't the best thing to do.. The unit in it isn't made for creating the low frequences that the bass makes..
