your video is a bit bullshit. i just went to the site with my pre, took less than 2 seconds to load. your video is fake. i used wifi and it only took less than 2 seconds, and using the normal non-3g network it took 4 seconds. once again, your video is fake or your pre has some serious fuck ups in it. its easy with a decent router to limit the bandwidth to a device, so you could have just given the opera phone full bandwidth and the pre hardly any. TEST FAIL

Opera Mini compresses pages, so theoretically it should definitely download faster. I'm not sure if either of these phones maintain much of a client-side cache

I reported that my pre loaded in 25 seconds, that was with EVDO, but with WIFI it loaded the same page in 15 seconds.

And you probably had a Cache from the page. It's not my fault that the Pre and Sprint took 45 seconds to load on 3G. That's not my fault. That's just facts.

And more facts...Opera Mini will ALWAYS win. You just don't know anything, I guess. Of course a browser that has server-side compression will win, and that's Opera. There's no denying that. I'm sorry. Opera Mini beats, Pre, iPhone, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.

Once again, WiFi speed is dependent on your ISP's speeds. My internet is slow (slower than 3G)

Your speed on WiFi means nothing, since it's a totally different connection.

Try it out on 3G and look at the 3G video, since 3G speed should be relatively consistant.

even if opera mini beats palm pre, no way that a normal palm pre takes that long of a time to load. So you might be correct in saying opera mini will always be faster but your comparison results are not reliable.

In realistic terms without your weak wi-fi, how much faster is opera mini than the pre?

The Wing (Opera) is on a standard 2G connection, while the Pre is on Sprint's 3G.

Guess what, the Wing still wins! Even though it's on a connection that's about 3 times slower!

Opera Mini = Server assisted compression = less proccessing necessary on the phone = faster loading times

The Pre is all on it's own. The iPhone, Blackberry, and Pre will all loose to Opera Mini, every time.

well it defiantly seems to be true but a browsers speed isn"t everything i tried a browser that was split second fast recently i think it was skyfire but the rendering was horrible and so was the browsing experience and thats how i find operas mini, the version on my htc must be its big brother? its much better.

By the way, Opera Mobile 9.7 beta was released, and it's even better, if you were using the old version.

But thanks for at least admitting that Opera is faster. Yea, it's true that the Pre browser has more options, but for some things, I just like speed. Other times I find Opera Mini too limited for my needs.

Oh and, you didn't like Skyfire? I thought it was really nice, especially since you can use full flash, like visit the real ESPN.

But even so, many people don't go to websites to look at the pictures (unless your surfing porn).

Give Palm Pre a break people, this is the first attempt from Palm and its the first version of this phone. It will get more improved in the coming software updates so its not the end of the world.

I do love the Pre, it is the best phones in terms of multitasking.

Yet, I highly doubt that they will EVER beat Opera Mini...here's why...Opera Mini uses something called Opera Turbo...Server assisted web browsing...the web pages are compressed for the phone so they can load the page faster over a slow data connection. Unless Palm implements the same system (highly unlikely), the Pre will never have a chance. Opera Mini is always gonna have the advantage.

NOTHING is running in the background, I showed you that in the video. They're both connected to my Exchange server, so that's fair for both.

Opera's just faster because of Opera Turbo...I've said that millions of times....Opera Mini beats the iPhone, Android, Pre, and any other browser.

Btw, I HATE Opera because of how they complain about Microsoft.

I dunno about this comparison, I have phones with opera mini, Palm Treo, Samsung Instinct, and they havn't been faster. Also this video was not used with high settings in opera mini, low quality is opera mini's default. I also opened the same site on my Palm Pre on WiFi it it was fulley rendered in 11 seconds.

I ran the test with and without the cache cleared with the same results. In fact it tended to go a tiny bit faster with the cache cleared stragenly enough. So you're the one with bad tests.

I did a fresh reboot on the Pre twice, I cleared cashes all the time. Quit trying to find excuses for my Pre results. I will also do a comparison to a Samsung Instinct, both on Sprint network, do side by side video.

Yes, the Pre's browser is more advanced. Faster? No. But also remember that there's Opera Mobile, which has all or more of the features the Pre has, but als it has Opera Turbo, so it'll be just as fast as Mini.

And you are mis-educated thinking that installing one extra browser will clutter everything up. Its just like another app! And if it surfs the web faster, then I want it on my phone!

But yea, the Pre browser is pretty nice, I'm typing this from my Pre right now!

Check his other YouTube video on the right. 3G speeds depend on a lot of things. 15 Seconds is possible in a good area, but his other video used EDGE and still loaded the majority of the page in around 15 seconds.

You guys just need to grow up and admit defeat. Opera Mini IS faster than most web browsers. It uses server-assisted browsing to compress pages.

If you want to compare Winmo to Pre, use Internet Explorer... :)

Dude, if the WiFi is "sorry", then it's sorry on both phones, so it still means that Opera Mini is faster.

And you didn't have Opera Mini on your Windows Mobile phones, did you? Opera Mini has Opera Turbo which makes it faster (server side compression).

And on 3G, the Pre loads a little faster (about 46 seconds), but Opera loads in about 36 seconds on EDGE, which isn't even 3G, lol.

Maybe your Wifi sucks... and I mean BAD... but my Pre loaded the entire site in 9 seconds... Without Cache.

Either A) you got a bad Pre or B) you are blinded by Opera love and rigged the video.

I had WinMo before the Pre (running 6.5), and I had mini Opera. I can personally attest to the fact that I have NEVER seen a site load that slow on my Pre (EV or Wifi) and that the Pre is faster than Opera.
