yes there is proof. when the prophet returned to makkah after the journey, the ppl asked him to describe jerusalem since this overnight trip was no less than a miracle. the prophet explained it in detail as well as the description of caravans travelling near the city.

this is recorded history.

once can always argue about miracles. for e.g. an atheist can say...whats the proof of jesus being born from a virgin mother? see my point.

there are several kinds of miracles. For prophets there were ones for the people to see from there own eyes, but our dear Prophet Muhammad(SA) was special in a way that he had not just a visual miracle for the people at that time but a universal miracle for the whole future mankind in a form of Qur'an. So if they dont believe the stories or history, they have Quran as a proof, and if they deny it than they are the ignorants.
