Hey friend! The problem with these limited guys is the fact that they think technology is somethin stanched in time.. that technology doesnt evolve in order to solve all the problems related to... in the beggining Brazil had also problems with efficiency, costs and environment.
I am just aghast at the ignorance of the public. It takes more energy to make ethanol from corn than you get from the ethanol when you're done. Idiots don't even understand how fertilizer is made.
The FER (fossil energy-replacement ratio) for Corn Ethanol is 1.36. That of gasoline is 0.81. It is speculated that an FER of 10.3 can be achieved for Cellulosic Ethanol. The higher the FER the better the return for the amount of energy invested.
So what do you think about the biofuels development program of Verenium? They make several claims that contradict what you say in your comment. The key here is the development of enzymes that increase efficiency. Just stick a dot com after the company name for more information.
