  • My quartet professor said today that we (the quartet I am in) could play this as our next piece. I didn't heard of this piece before, so I came here to listen to it. To me, it doesn't seem to be the reason. I doesn't sound overly complicated from a players point of view, however, it might be a different story when you actually play it, but there are a lot of quartets that are much more complicated and difficult than this is.

  • I find it hard to understand why this isn't played more often. If there is a string player viewing, can you please tell me if this is or isn't well written from the player's point of view, as it may be the only explanation I can think of for it's neglect. It is such beautiful music.

  • @pianomansydney From the musicians, this piece requires a pretty good amount of work to put together, let alone get to performance level (much like the quartets of Debussy and Ravel). And given its dark and brooding nature, most audiences don't fully appreciate its difficulty, which makes it a little unsatisfying to perform (similar to Schumann's cello concerto).

  • Awesome romance!
