  • The fourth configuration seems to be the best option. A single crankshaft means no need for additional gears to synchronize the two piston sets.

  • I was in Kaponga last year and there is a guy Roy King, he was doing up an Arel Johnson, 1905 or there abouts dont quote me, it had a four cycling over head piston engine with one spark plug in the middle, the pistons run via pushrods to teh crankshaft below, it was an impressive unit, so small almost square, I beleive the above mentioned Commer was a similar design. of course I like 2 stroeks and I know they are polictically incorrect but when you see a 250 twin muscle out a 750 it is good.

  • This one seems to be a really promising concept, I don't see why it couldn't work. No side thrust means also no friction between the piston ant the cylinder (torus) wall, that is less wasted energy. Maybe the projected power/weight ratio is a little optimistic but it really should be made into a working prototype. What's the problem Mr. Devaere, no investors interested? Too bad I don't have the money:)))

  • I like the video, looks like the engine has crankshafts similar to camshafts or same principle. What applications can this engine be used for?

  • make it a diesel and small enoguh to fit in a chevy s10 and i would buy it! =3

  • They knew ho to bore curved cylinders in 1864 :

  • @frankydevaere They probably finished them with a "bottle brush"-type hone. Cast-iron pipe was pretty easy to come by then and the elbows were quite often perfectly curvilinear.

  • Later we found the Commer TS3 in commercial vehicles and tractors, the Napier Deltic for marine and locomotive applications and some military vehicles and tanks.

At the present only Dair Air is building diesel opposed engines ( Dair 100 ) for air crafts.

  • During WW2, Junkers build a bomber with a linear 2 stroke opposed piston diesel engine . With this engine they achieved a magnificent power to weight ratio ( 2stroke ) . Combined with the efficient diesel cycle they managed high fuel economy ( uni-flow scavenging and ideal combustion condition because the combustion chamber is formed by the hot piston heads ).

  • @frankydevaere

No: the Jumo 223 was heawy 595kg for 867hp, and the Jumo 225= 2370kg for 2500hp (twice the weight from a 2500hp Wright cyclone r3350-24W or 85)

In comparision, the 4 stroke diesel Clerget 14F (radial) =940HP/710kg (1940)

    14NC (1940, but tested (in secret) in 1943) 1080Hp/710kg

  • Dit is zotte motor. hoe groot is hij ongeveer? want het ziet er een moeilijke maar compacte motor uit. grtz
