BB King Style Licks Gibson Les Paul R9 w/ PAF's

Thanks mate. Awesome. I have had a Fender strat for a while, but I'm a massive bb king fan. Not much option for left handers on a budget, but on a recent trip to the US i packed up an epiphone les paul lefty so I'm kind of hoping to replicate what you did here. Thanks for the inspiration - I was hoping the les paul would sound close to Lucille and its much closer than my strat.

i agree with mark0tc use more of the neck pup

and take a little easier on the vibrato, BB's is a more subtle and not as sharp

the only i would suggest is to turn the "little switcher"to rythm, and try to get a thickier sound like BB's!

That really percussive, articulate sound to the notes, is that down to the PAF's? I hear it in the ABB tones as well but I just can't get it, it's driving me nuts. You know, like you get the click of the pick attack and then the note sort of blooms into focus? THAT sound!

JBL's with their edgewound coil and aluminum dust cap...probably responsible for the percussive first attack...then the PAF's and Marshall compression make the notes bloom!! Good ear my friend!!

Speakin of THE B..I always like to revisit Duane's Anthology album and dust off my BB Medley licks when I need an little kick in my ass.I met BB way back in 1969 (OMG)when I first started hackin @ a small college outdoor concert and talked 1 on 1 with him for about an hour. That meeting changed my life.

You put sprague (sp?)capacitors in to replace the bumble bees huh? Could you expound on that a little?

Hey Steven, the re-issue bumble bees that Gibson uses may look like the real thing on the outside, but they're nothing like the real thing on the inside. Nor do they sound like the real thing. Sprague made the original bumble bees, and in early 60's the look changed, but the caps were exactly the same. These are called black beauties. Same exact cap as the bumble bees. I got some that had never been installed. They make a big difference in tone IMHO.

' Course maybe his feeling for the notes has something to do with that. U never did say if you played straight theu clean or thru some boxes.
