I've listened to this song a few times. I can't agree with this being sexist. The word "housewife" starts a debate because women don't marry the house.... OK fine. This song is about the man's gratitude to his wife and how she gave up the good life for a guy like him. This is more about his appreciation and humility. Then again I could be wrong
Does anybody know when this was? I had this album in around seventh or eighth grade...might have been a greatest hits, but he looks much younger on it than here. Thanks for posting this!
THANKS TO GLEN AND THE POSTER , THIS IS FROM THE GIRL WHO USED TO SING FOR A LIVING AND THEN GOT MARRIED,HAD A FAMILY ...ALL GROWN UP, NO REGRETS,....I SING NOW AND LOVE IT, WHAT MEMORIES YOU GIVE ME,
I forgot how much I love glen cambell!!!! he was my first real crush as a little girl, still love you glen your a true artist. you arew just the best real smooth.
lighten up Isabella its love for a women he's singing about, the songs not rubbishing women its celebrating them. Stereotypical of what? lighten up a bit and get back in the kitchen and cook your old mans dinner (now thats being stereotypical).... only joking
They just don't make great song like this any more. Have a large glass of wine ,and let yourself go. It just takes me back to a time I loved, and the girl I still love.. I must be an old softy.
You can barely hear it. If the camera had not been on his guitar, it would have difficult to figure out which instrument was making the noise. Any idea which of his videos on youtube demonstrates his guitar playing?
Glen was all over everybodies records. He was a big time session guitarist. I have a vid of him playing with Willie Nelson jamming on Gentle on My Mind. It might be on you tube. His solo was awesome..
When I was a 13 year old boy in Albuquerque Glen tried to teach me to play guitar. He was so nice the way he explained that I just didnt have it.He was 17 at the time.
What a consummate entertainer Glen Campbell is and his rendition of the Jimmy Webb classis Highwayman is absolutely awesome. I think he gets better with age just like wine. Superb talent, thanks Glen for the joy you have brought to the ordinary folk who get a whole lot of happiness from your music.
Well lsaid Captain Smith. And us stay at home moms were happy to do it for our children and husband- have no regrets for the choice we made. More of us should be proud of that choice, it would be easy to let otheres raise your kids on little money, but it is the best for them!!
What a tribute to housewives! One of my favorite songs ever, because it stands testimony to the fact that there was a whole generation of women out there who were much more than just wives and mothers. They had hopes and dreams of their own, and too often they put them aside to nuture husbands and families. Most of them were happy to make the sacrifice and would change a thing. Still it's necessary to remember that they were more than just our mothers. They were amazing women. Bravo Glen.
Why do you disrespect him saying he tosses back a few before this concert? Can you sing like this? Do you kno how long he has entertained us? Your Mama maybe? Give thanks that you are allowed to have the life of enjoying what you are viewing for some reason! I direct this ro irish 8 but more to "cascam"?(duh) get over whatever trip you're on. Was your mama mean to you , waah, waah? Go cry!
Beautiful Glen, you have brought much good emotion and happiness into many lives with your good music. Somehow you have survived all the evil that has been thrown at you. God Bless.
You know I sing this song often at karaoke, because there is something about it that is soooo gorgeous. What a salute to the women who sacrificed their own happiness for the happiness of their families. And it makes women swoon, lol.
Yeah...I didn't know that so many women that stayed home to raise their kids gave up their own happiness....if I were a women I think spending time raising my kids would make me a lot happier in the long run than having a career.
He doesn't usually do this number in his usual gigs, but despite the large back-up he still picks up guitar and actually uses it - check out the little riff at 1min30sec...
Glen is the best pop musician ever period!!!

This song is not sexist. He looks at his wife now older and realizes how much he loves her and what she gave up for him

Why would you say "he tossed back a few"? What an amazing voice at 70 and in the SAME KEY after 40 years, rarely can singers do this.
Also after the years of drug abuse so wonderful to see him survive keep performing.
