My mum was a nurse untill she had me. She went back to work as a receptionist when I was a bit older. My dad didn't find work untill I was about 12. for 12 years he did nothing. He did actualy do some housework though, and cooked all the meals from scratch. so he wasn't that bad.

It is evident that there is alot of love within the family with kids, and are at least close to one another. It is especially great that the couple is willing to do an equal amount of housework between each other. If they both just worked and balanced that with time with their kids, they would be absolutely fine. Benefits are simply not sufficient enough to raise a large family, and even so, in the long run, the kids will grow up in constant poverty and grow to really resent their parents.
Those people are just lazy, and coming up with all kinds of feel-good excuses that just don't hold water. Most of your kids are school-aged. You need two people home all day to care for one kid and do no housework?

Whilst I was growing up I lived on a council esate, but both my parents had jobs as well as four children. They would of got more if they lived off benefits, but they always said it was important for us to know that you cant live of other peoples money.

Not really. All you have to do is lie to get welfare. A friend of mine lied and said the father wasn't around and she got tons of perks. She worked all the time, except she got paid under the table to people processing her paperwork thought she was broke as a joke.
On the other hand, I've seen older folks who have worked their entire lives and now they fall on hard times and they can't get their benefits.
That's the problem with the UK, people who think that it's ok to choose to stay at home and live on benefits. Like it's a lifestyle choice, and a right to do so: as opposed to the stop gap cushion it's supposed to provide, for those who find themselves unemployed. These people disgust me.
Small children are VERY hard work....I can vouch for that one. I know women that stopped full time work to have children and all of them say that childrearing is much harder than going to work outside the home. Full-time parents deserve respect...not condemnation...they are raising the next generation after all. Schools and daycares instill their own values and beliefs in our children...and if a person chooses to not let that happen, that's their choice.

@inturn23 She doesnt sound American at all, I live in Wisconsin in the United States and the only people here with that sort of accent are people who were born and raised in Ireland and then moved here at some point. You would think the accent would be more prevalent here in Wisconsin, when you consider the fact that we have the biggest Irish festival in the world, even bigger than the ones in Ireland.

Even though I do think it's wrong to live off welfare, I see nothing wrong with mom or dad choosing to become stay at home parents, provided only one parent stays at home and the other one works outside the home...my mom stayed at home until I was old enough to be home alone for a few hours, and I know that when I have kids, I'm also going to be a stay at home mom...but this is a personal thing that should be up to the parents to decide, and nobody else

In todays world you cant really survive on one income and in alot of countries as soon as your kids are old enough to go to school thats it you have to work, otherwise they do collect payments cause in Australia they can still collect payments if there partner works, but in reality everyone needs to get up off there lazy asses and put into society and stop asking for hand outs . ie stay at home mums, its just a excuse and its lazy when your kids are old enough to go to school there is no excuse

Have you ever been a stay at home mom? I ask that because people who choose to be stay at home parents aren't being lazy...in reality, anyone who chooses to be a stay at home parent has to handle the cleaning, getting the kids dressed and ready for school if they are school age, prepare meals for the family, go food shopping, sometimes with children in tow, and a multitude of other tasks...in reality, stay at home parents work as hard, if not harder, than anyone who works outside the home

yes they would get dole payments and family benefits according to how many children they have. it's like that in most european countries. here in belgium, even if both parents work full time you still received something from the state for each child

no they dont. I stay at home with my children while my partner works because if I was to work full time we would have less money and most of my wages would be spent on child care. And people who collect government benefits...good on them....childrearing is a full time job!

excuse me....but I dont collect any government pensions, benefits etc....we earn too much.....and pay taxes. So STFU! Although I don't have a problem with people who wish to stay home with their children while they are little....even if they need government assistance to do so. Parenting is a full time job. I have no problem if the money we pay in tax goes to parents who stay at home with their little ones....that's their choice.

Im Australian...so unless you are an Australian tax payer...you have never paid a cent for me. I see "tax payers money" as the peoples money...money used to support the society in which we live. Build roads, hospitals, help the disabled, support needy parents of the next generation etc. We are very lucky to live in countries WITH social security....don't knock it...you may need it one day!

people who work 40 hour weeks dont qualify for welfare, foodstamps, medicare....they cant afford food and decent clothes...whislt people that get welfare have plenty of food and nice clothes ..live in nice subsidized apartments,,,,,,,,,,,,, meanwhile the prson working 40 hours per week are paying the taxes to support people...alot of times the moms getting the benefits are able to take college courses...its really fucked

Not really. All you have to do is lie to get welfare. A friend of mine lied and said the father wasn't around and she got tons of perks. She worked all the time, except she got paid under the table to people processing her paperwork thought she was broke as a joke.
On the other hand, I've seen older folks who have worked their entire lives and now they fall on hard times and they can't get their benefits.

Small children are VERY hard work....I can vouch for that one. I know women that stopped full time work to have children and all of them say that childrearing is much harder than going to work outside the home. Full-time parents deserve respect...not condemnation...they are raising the next generation after all. Schools and daycares instill their own values and beliefs in our children...and if a person chooses to not let that happen, that's their choice.
