You know, I never quite got Speed Racer. He's treated as such a hero in the show and that all his competitors cheat and use unfair advantages, yet Speed himself does almost all of those things in the show. Including the deaths of other drivers with a show of little or poor sportsmanship.
It's especially weird when you think of real Motorsport victims and how horrific it can be.

@arnauddendy no he probably died a brutal death. i say that because the speed racer episodes were very edited for american audiences. the japanese originals were full of blood and gore; which is like the norm for them, right down to their children's cartoons. it would be far too dangerous for u.s. kids to have viewed the un-cut originals. it would have produced at least several desensitized kids trying to imitate what they saw through violence. lol. maybe not, but you know what i mean.

@thatgirlthatgirl anime cartoon to be in the u.s. off the air, because of it's violence, when the movie came with emile hirsh, there was fair amount of auto and other violence in it, i can't remember if it was PG-13 or R, but you dom make an excellent point, growing up i watched this thinking the races were for the cars to elude each other til they crossed the finish line, i never thought, even with Speed, that its ok to go ahead and KILL the other driver! lol that's not good moral teaching

Great classic! Cartoon Network did air this back in the '90s before all the garbage replacing it and all other good cartoons. Not even Boomerang is airing it. Got to bring it back on the air!
A BIG part of my childhood! And as a fan of the series, I am just glad that the Wachowskis nailed the films right and were able to successfully translate the series into the big screen! GO SPEED GO! :D
I have only learned of the passing of Peter Fernandez just yesterday, and I can only say that even though Peter is no longer with us, Speed Racer will live on - through the show, and through the memories of those of us who watched and enjoyed the show.
Rest In Peace, Peter Fernandez. You have earned it.

Great classic! Cartoon Network did air this back in the '90s before all the garbage replacing it and all other good cartoons. Not even Boomerang is airing it. Got to bring it back on the air!

I have only learned of the passing of Peter Fernandez just yesterday, and I can only say that even though Peter is no longer with us, Speed Racer will live on - through the show, and through the memories of those of us who watched and enjoyed the show.
Rest In Peace, Peter Fernandez. You have earned it.
