I know it's been quite a while since you posted this video but I just had to comment. I really like your style. Down to earth and enjoying what your doing. Kudos to you sir!
Impressive results with the tennis ball as well, but I'm curious about the poly count...ooh-la-la...
I am going to give it a run though and see if I can wrap the resulting texture using UV Unwrap and viewport canvas.
Awight! Pisa pish yeh! Can't believe tht took half an hour to render, mine only took a second. But on a serious note, i've only just started with 3D and this is by far the best tutorial i've seen. And i've seen a lot! And my model turned out perfect! Thanks man!!!
i have 3DS Max 2012 and the material editor is completely different. u cant drag the material from the window and CTRL + I does inset not invert selection. what do i do?
Open the material editor hitting "M". That should open a window called "Slate Material Editor". This window is the new layout for material editor on later 3Ds Max versions. You can click on " Modes>Compact Material Editor" to choose the other (classic) layout, wich is like the one in the video
@05Jaw hey man, i had the same prob you have and i kinda discovered my way around it. in the "view window"(should be the one in the midle) you got like the materials all conected and stuff, you simply click that green dot that corresponds to the material you want to aplly, and drag it to the surface.
@05Jaw to invert, after you're done aplying the first material you press CTRL and left-click somewhere in the viewport(NOT on the object), it will unselect the material editor window, without messing with the selection you have, now you can hit CTRL+I and it will invert the selection.
I'm a noob myself and I don't know if there is a "professional" way to do this but hey, it worked for me so, give it a try and then let me know if it worked ;)
Dude.. thanks for the info. Really good and comprehensive tutorial. Piece of advise, try to record with higher volume. I know you said you were sorry. Part 1 was good enough, part 2 was harder to hear. Other than that really well done.
very good tutorial dude! but just a quick note: the reason why the edges are looking wierd on 6:38 is because you selected the editable poly modifier on your modifier list, if you select again the turbo smooth on top of the edit. poly. should fix it, no need to apply another turbo smooth.
thank you very much 4 your tutorial! reeeally helpful!
So, in order to color something, you do that with what you did with the white and the yellow? Is there any way you can like directly paint onto the object?
Excellent! Well explained! Would you have the kindness to explain how to place let's say a brand or a logo in one part of the ball??? Thank you so much!!!!
Keep in mind that I am not criticizing, but you have forgotten that tennis balls have some fur on them, but no worries, the shape was great! I couldn't made mine with out it! Thanks alot! :D

one question
would this be the same if you applied a bump tennis ball texture on the sphere?
