Geeez ... how many people did they get in that Stadium ... 65 TRILLION? (give or take, hahaaaa). This was a performance roughly 30 yrs after they recorded it -- now over 20 years after THAT, it's still a piece of MAGIC !!
As their drummer on "When", I worked one big show at State Theater, Hartford with these guys. On the bill were the Pony Tails, Teddy Randazzo, Dwane Eddy. Years later ran into them performing at one of the bars in downtown LA. So many stories of the one record hit reaching the charts as it did for them. When was a great song for them.
WOW, Chris -- this is a fabulous video!!! I loved this song when it came out in '58!! But it breaks my heart they are RIP. Thanks for posting it! Cheri/CCF
I knew these boys, they are from Port Jervis, NY, and this hit was big when it first came out in 1959 or 60. They had another hit, ITS ONLY THE BEGINNING that charted in the US. Another hit was 5 o'CLOCK THRILL.
My 3 o clock thrill,... is a girl named Jill...That`s my 3 0 clock thrill.... and her name is Jill....Oh yea..dooooowap e wop. Think it was on the B side to "When".... not 100% sure.
I had the incredible good fortune of seeing this phenomenal duo in some long forgotten club in DC back in the sixties. And now I have the incredible good fortune of rediscovering them on you tube in the next century. I wish I knew then just how special this music would be to me.
I remember this when I was 7 years old and riding in my dads 1957 ford fairlane. For some reason, this song has always stayed with me. This has always been my favorite. Thanks for posting this..
I first remember this song (a 45) being played in the record department of the Woolworth's store in Park Ridge, Illinois. The song was a current big hit.
I'm 54 and feel absolutely terrible for todays youth. There's no doubt that songs like this will live forever. Kids today need this type of upbeat fun music instead of all the garbage now occupying the air waves.
@1933goudey Thats why I listen to it! I'm 19 and cannot stand modern music. Don't feel bad for us. I'm buying all this sort of music on vinyl and rocking it out and when I'm married I will be sure to show my children this music and none of the stuff I was bought up with!
@1933goudey You are so right and to prove the point look at the success of 'The Jersey Boys' updating the fabulous music of Valli & the Seasons. We were so lucky to enjoy the music of the late 50's and 60's in our youth.
@1933goudey I absolutely agree with your comment. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and there was no such thing as a Parental Advisory on records back then. A sad commentary on our society.
@1933goudey I wouldn't worry too much, there's youth such as myself who have shunned modern music for being absolute garbage and now watching videos like this on youtube and buying vinyl from the 50's and 60's and 70's! Old music is the best!
@1933goudey Im 21 And Agree With You 100%. Ive Always Considered Myself A "Rare Breed" Since At My Age, And Since Ive Been 17, I Love And Always Listen To Frank Sinatra, Dean, Martin, Bobby Darin, And Louis Prima. When I Was 18 I Discovered Doo Wop. Luckily I Got Some Of My Friends Onto It Too And They Enjoy It When I Play It. Theres Nothing Better Than Cruising Around In My Big Ol' Lincoln Town Car Blairing Sinatra Or Dion Out My Windows! The Music Today Is Shit Compared To The Music Then
the guys are called the dallas boys and the girls in this show were the vernon girls and this was from a show at wembley in 1989 and in the vernon girls was one member who was joe browns wife but she sadly died of cancer a few yrs ago.
Hey Chris, since you're our guy, what was the size of the CROWD at that event? Looks like 80+ ... With performances like this one, ANY seat was a great one.
The late, great Kalin Twins gave us this classic over 50 years ago, and it's still GREAT .... Thanks, man !
Does anyone know if this show is available on DVD? It's fantastic. I even remember some of the Vernons Girls from the 50's. I used to watch Oh Boy every Saturday night.
Feels so good to see the Twins performing THEIR song live ! I was born in 1957 , but I still remember this hit playing on all juke-boxes in my little home town in the Flanders in the sixties ...
As a little boy ( 7 y )I have put continuously several pounds of coins in the music machines to hear this song !
Oh yes, I 'm sure they are. Though we cannot hear them anymore down here. Sadly Hal passed away in 2005 and Herbie followed him in less than a year later. But I'm so sure they're making the angels swing up there :-)
A classic from my childhood -- THE IKE YEARS...
