  • Thanks for posting this video! I was wondering how you made your wings... :3

  • Also, how do you do a cutie mark?

  • @Summergirl9091 I'll let you know as soon as I figure it out XP I've decided to put RD's cutie mark on a pair of high-top converse next time I cosplay her. Felt doesn't work, and fabric paint isn't clear enough.

You could always go with a necklace!

  • Is there a pattern for the wings? I can't seem to draw it right also. :(

  • Just a quick question, what is the dimensions for the pieces of felt??

  • @calenloki Thanks. How do feel about the wings and ears out of fun foam?

  • @Summergirl9091 I think it makes the cosplay look cheap, personally. But it's probably easier.

  • omg soo boss

  • Do you think you could make a pattern for the wing pieces? I can never seem to draw them right.

  • Just a note, the back of the wings don't look like the inside. The wings are smooth on the outside. So, it ends up looking like you're wearing the wings backwards :T Other than that, the wings look great.

It's all really cheap to make, too which is a plus for those who don't want to spend a lot on the accessories :]

  • @baffledBITS (I know that, and you know that, but they look so much more fun the other way ^_^)

  • Please does someone knows the name of all the materials in spanish D:?!

i dont know what is that yellow thing (i know this sound stupid x_x)

I know the scissors, the yarn and the pen marker D:

but what are the other thing x.x?

    please help!!

  • @IronPox fieltro

  • Thanks, I've actually been trying to figure out the best way to do the ears for my Applejack cosplay that wouldn't be to heavy. :D

  • How about a Discord cosplay, or have you already made one?? :p

  • @bloodsuckingmonster4 I don't think i could pull off Discord, as I'm unable to convincingly sport a goatee. (Which, outside the cosplay world, is really a good thing after all.)

But if you're just talking about a general tutorial, I'll see what I can do.

  • Thanks so much for doing this! You've got so many great ideas and I'm looking forward to implementing them for my daughter's cosplay. :D

  • Wow, those ears are pretty easy to make, but they look good!

I'll make a pair for me... Oh wait, I'm bald :/

  • @mameraula You can wear a wig and clip them to that. If you want the ears to wear without one you could attach them to a clear elastic headband or use some sort of body glue.

  • Oh, god... She's making pony wings and wearing a pokémon t-shirt... Marry me?

  • I like how this video's length is 13:37.

    Thanks for the tutorial :)

  • The outline is a really neat idea, going for that cartoony show accuracy. Not to mention it just looks good!

  • HNNNNNNNGHHHHH

  • Must....Learn....To.....Sew.....

  • Woudl it be possible for you to show us how to make Horns.?

  • @JBCBlank Yes! I'm working on perfecting my pattern and being able to wear them without the clip showing. Keep an eye on my channel, it'll be up this weekend :3

  • @calenloki Yay!!! thanx.

I was also wondering, how did you get your tail?

  • @JBCBlank I bought hair extensions - you know, the little clip-in colored ones? About 3-5 of each color. I used a leather punch to poke holes in the back of a pair of shorts and threaded them through the back. The clip keeps them inside the shorts, and the holes keep the colors separated.

  • @calenloki So simple I didn't even think about it XD thanx. you're work is wonderful.

    XOXOXOX

    ♔ Future Rarity Cosplayer

  • Cool :3 I've just made a pair of ears for a Big Macintosh cosplay. You're technique is really helpful, thank you!

  • @polerberr That's awesome - send pictures!

  • This video is so awesome, it's 13:37... :]

  • Thank you :'D That is such an easy and functional way to make pony wings!

  • again can i buy a digital copy of a full scale model, so i can trace i better

  • @upbeatanime I don't use a pattern for this, each set is freehanded.

  • Could you sell me a matching wig and tail for scootaloo? i just don't know where to shop. how much do you think that would cost. material + service of tracking it down for me and shipping cost. i understand if you rather not go wig searching for me.

  • @upbeatanime I'd give ebay a try. By the time i bought everything, had it shipped, put it together, and shipped it to you, it'll cost much more than any sane person would be willing to pay XD

  • I love how quick and easy you make these. I know if I were to try this I'd be fiddling around with measurements for ages, but you just go straight into it yet end up with a great result! xD

I'm not all that into MLP but these are so adorable that I'm tempted to make some anyway!

  • hey, random unrelated-ish question, but i like the way you did the wings and ears so i fell i have to ask.

I wanna cosplay pinkie pie and is pretty sure about most things but i am confused about making a tail, What would you suggest for that?

  • @sblack2319 I've seen a lot of people use strips of fleece, but it ends up looking pretty cheap. I'm not saying it can't be done right, but I wouldn't suggest it.

I used a leather punch to make small holes in the back of my shorts and put hair extentions through them. It does take a LOT of extentions to give the tail any type of volume, so you may just want to buy a curly pink wig and give that a shot.

Look at my other video, the "Rainbow Dash Cosplay (Updated Version)" You'll see it :3

  • Thanks so much! I'm going to Comic Con as Rainbow Dash and I need to do some really early preparing. <3

  • Thank you sooo much for posting this! <3

  • thank you for the tutorial. It was just beautiful ^///^ now I know how to make the ears too ~rejoices~

  • @cakers12345 - I have used wool felt and felt with a bit of rayon as well as "plain old felt". I personally like the plain stuff better, because it keeps its shape best. Everything works well except the fleece stuff.

  • @calenloki what type of felt do you use? wool felt, arcylic felt, or just plain old felt?

  • @mannylvscod - They are standard felt pieces, like you would buy by the sheet at a hobby store. Very similar in size to a piece of printer paper.

  • @calenloki what sizes are the pieces of felt? I wanted to do this for KotoriCon and don't know what size to use... can you please help?

  • Great job, Fluttershy rocks ~woo hoo~

  • I've incorporated your Ear design into my Rainbow Dash Hoodie i'm currently making. Works like a charm! Exlenent work

  • @unknownphantomfan - I got the felt and paint marker from Hobby Lobby (but you can also find them at Joann's, Michael's, or Wal-Mart, depending on your area), and the wire came from Lowe's (It's fencing wire - very sturdy)

  • Where do you get the things you used in the video from?

  • @xR41NB0WD4SHx - I'd say a maximum of 3 feet. I don't measure things near as often as I should XD (I really should, too, I'm horrible.)

  • I meant "What is the LENGTH of the wire?" lol sorry

  • How thick of wire is that?

  • @pirategirl120 - I usually use sheets. If I'm cutting large (like in the video) it takes 12, but if I trim the pattern down a bit I can usually get a pair of wings and a set of ears out of 10.

Yardage I'm not really sure about since I've never used it. If it's 45" fabric, though, you'd have 1620 sq. in. per yard, and one sheet of felt is 108 sq. in. Math-wise you should be able to make a set with close to 2/3 of a yard.

  • How many yards of felt would you need to make these?

  • yay. this is soo helpful thank you now i can make Fluttershy wings and ears for my halloween costume. :D

  • ms. shrewsberry? :O

  • You are my hero. I've been looking for wing tutorials all day for a fluttershy cosplay I'm going to do for Halloween (My 5 year old is going as Spike xD) and they all had wings and stuff which I didnt want to mess with. This is AMAZING. Ty for putting this up!

  • @anneceplo Leah XD Yes, like your "backpack" fairy wings.

The fluttershy pair in the video are yours, by the way.

  • You mean like MY fanchy schmancy harness system? LOL ^ ^ (dad's idea, I swear)

    By the way,

    YOU SEXY!!!1!!!!11!!!!!!!eleven!

  • @stephythepenguin - you're actually not the first to ask! They will be in my etsy store (woodspriteanon) on Monday, starting at $20 (or $15 if you don't want the wire with it).

  • i did my ears differntly but im SOOOOOOOOOOOO makeing the wings like this take u SO much i cant thank u enough for this.

  • @rablpn - seconded!

  • @DrivoRobotnik - I'll see what I can do.

    @PinkieSparkle - That's what I was hoping for!

@lifeessence - Fantastic idea. I was trying to keep this simple for beginners and such, but I think I'll try that when I re-make my personal pair.

@OneAndAMerf - Half the Rainbow Dash cosplayers I've seen have been guys.

And you can't get much cooler than Rainbow Dash.

  • Anything for Unicorns?
