@Summergirl9091 I'll let you know as soon as I figure it out XP I've decided to put RD's cutie mark on a pair of high-top converse next time I cosplay her. Felt doesn't work, and fabric paint isn't clear enough.
Just a note, the back of the wings don't look like the inside. The wings are smooth on the outside. So, it ends up looking like you're wearing the wings backwards :T Other than that, the wings look great.
It's all really cheap to make, too which is a plus for those who don't want to spend a lot on the accessories :]
@bloodsuckingmonster4 I don't think i could pull off Discord, as I'm unable to convincingly sport a goatee. (Which, outside the cosplay world, is really a good thing after all.)
But if you're just talking about a general tutorial, I'll see what I can do.
@mameraula You can wear a wig and clip them to that. If you want the ears to wear without one you could attach them to a clear elastic headband or use some sort of body glue.
@JBCBlank Yes! I'm working on perfecting my pattern and being able to wear them without the clip showing. Keep an eye on my channel, it'll be up this weekend :3
@JBCBlank I bought hair extensions - you know, the little clip-in colored ones? About 3-5 of each color. I used a leather punch to poke holes in the back of a pair of shorts and threaded them through the back. The clip keeps them inside the shorts, and the holes keep the colors separated.
Could you sell me a matching wig and tail for scootaloo? i just don't know where to shop. how much do you think that would cost. material + service of tracking it down for me and shipping cost. i understand if you rather not go wig searching for me.
@upbeatanime I'd give ebay a try. By the time i bought everything, had it shipped, put it together, and shipped it to you, it'll cost much more than any sane person would be willing to pay XD
I love how quick and easy you make these. I know if I were to try this I'd be fiddling around with measurements for ages, but you just go straight into it yet end up with a great result! xD
I'm not all that into MLP but these are so adorable that I'm tempted to make some anyway!
@sblack2319 I've seen a lot of people use strips of fleece, but it ends up looking pretty cheap. I'm not saying it can't be done right, but I wouldn't suggest it.
I used a leather punch to make small holes in the back of my shorts and put hair extentions through them. It does take a LOT of extentions to give the tail any type of volume, so you may just want to buy a curly pink wig and give that a shot.
Look at my other video, the "Rainbow Dash Cosplay (Updated Version)" You'll see it :3
@cakers12345 - I have used wool felt and felt with a bit of rayon as well as "plain old felt". I personally like the plain stuff better, because it keeps its shape best. Everything works well except the fleece stuff.
@unknownphantomfan - I got the felt and paint marker from Hobby Lobby (but you can also find them at Joann's, Michael's, or Wal-Mart, depending on your area), and the wire came from Lowe's (It's fencing wire - very sturdy)
@pirategirl120 - I usually use sheets. If I'm cutting large (like in the video) it takes 12, but if I trim the pattern down a bit I can usually get a pair of wings and a set of ears out of 10.
Yardage I'm not really sure about since I've never used it. If it's 45" fabric, though, you'd have 1620 sq. in. per yard, and one sheet of felt is 108 sq. in. Math-wise you should be able to make a set with close to 2/3 of a yard.
You are my hero. I've been looking for wing tutorials all day for a fluttershy cosplay I'm going to do for Halloween (My 5 year old is going as Spike xD) and they all had wings and stuff which I didnt want to mess with. This is AMAZING. Ty for putting this up!
@stephythepenguin - you're actually not the first to ask! They will be in my etsy store (woodspriteanon) on Monday, starting at $20 (or $15 if you don't want the wire with it).
Thanks for posting this video! I was wondering how you made your wings... :3
