Guild Wars Bear Taming/Charming Guide for in Presearing

Can someone help me tame a bear plz i really want one and people cant do it wiht me

Sometimes it depends on the bear. I've found that certain bears have more aggro towards the caster, or a wider range on Breaking Charm (for whatever reason), so if one continuously breaks charm, kill it and find another. There are like 15 to choose from in Wizard's Folly.

Just wana say, it is still possible. Took around half an hour with a mate and it may seem at first it was fixed etc.

But what happens is if you do it right, he will run out of range for his spell to take any effect, he will still cast it but it has no effect.

This is not impossible. It took me a good hour, but you just have to get the bear running straight away from you without stopping. If it hits something it will turn and break the spell.

what lvl beast mastery do you need ?

Your beast mastery level doesnt matter if you want to charm any pet. The only limit there is, is that a charmable pet can't be more than 4 levels higher than you. Since the black bear in pre-searing is only level 3 if I remember correctly, everyone can charm it.

Big question: Are bears supposed to still have their Brutal Mauling skill once you charm them. Because its decreasing the overall damage that its doing. Also is it possible to death level bears?

it's possible to death level, you'd just need to run 2 accounts at the same time, since i doubt anyone would sit around waiting for you.

it does still have teh skill. it does do less damage, but it is more awesome

@Wi11daThri11 Ignoring the fact that your question was asked six months ago; All black bears have Brutal Mauling. No other pet, I know of, has an innate attack skill besides auto attack.

area. Charm skill run so it gets interrupted then let it kill you lol

Every four attacks the Bear uses Brutal Mauling. That should help some of you with the timing if you're baiting. ;)

There's one problem, it seems you have no ranger profession as primary or second.

Yes that is completely normal, because it was not intended to have a bear in presearing by arenanet. So thats also the reason why they have included the skill ''brutal maulling'' for the bears. ;) good luck further :)

Yes, if you want to Tame Any Pet you need to be a Ranger as First Profession or as Seconde Profession. So you need to be for example a Ranger/Warrior or a Warrior/Ranger, this doesn't mean that you need to be a Warrior, you MUST have the profession Ranger as i described above ;)

Well, you don't NEED to be a Ranger. You just have to have the Charm Animal skill, which you can get from Nente in Pre.

The game is called Guild Wars Prophecies, there are other expansions, like factions, nightfall and eye of the north (the last one is linked to factions, prophecies or nightfall)

its a MMORPG, one time fee (the fee which you pay in the game store) then you can play as long as you like and want.

I just did this myself using 2 accounts. It works perfectly. Anyone having problems just make sure your runner is running directly away from you and starts to run once the bear is up on its hind legs. Make sure you start to charm as soon as you see the brutal mauling skill bar show up. If your runner is to far away when the bear gets all four paws back on the ground it will always opt. to kill your charm. Other then that. Just keep trying.

Finaly i figured it out! I thought u needed a mesmer to make break charm have long recharge, diversion or whatever. Hey i dont mess with mesmers a lot.

Yeah, it seemed like it would work with the principle of it, him bieng out of range and moving so that he couldnt break your charm, but when i tried it he stopped moving and broke my charm past the agro line. I think that good ol gw has updated against this. (they need to focus on real problems...)If you can tell me what I might have done wrong or come to me in game and make it work right that would be great. My main char's name is Soul Feasta

lol ^_^ , yesterday i did it again with pre dragon gamer to test it and for me it still works. maybe is one tip. when the bear uses the skill "brutal mauling" just wait a second or 1-2 longer before your going to run (the runner)

yes, they are widely available in southern shiverpeaks, try just outside copperhammer mines, there's normally a few out there

sadly the black bear that looks like a mursaat ele can't be charmed :( i hate name bugs

in pre-searing i tryed to tame it with a friend and it worked but it dosent follow you or listens to your commands

i know :S its a common problem that the bear doesnt all ways listen to you commands but the bear all ways followed me... maybe try this :

1. tame the bear

2. go portalling (not to a city, just from explorable area to explorable area)

These instructions helped me with the same problem

I tried, but when the runner ran, my char stopped casting, and it said target out of range, so I had him stay in range, and the bear broke the spell. I got a bear post-searing, his name is Ginga, But I can't figure out why it didn't work in pre.

you need to stay just outside the aggro range of the bear, normally it will work... i had a few tries with my friend to to tame bear too... and after all i got it...

it means the very beginning of Guild Wars Prophecies, just before your going trough the gate that will bring you to post searing which is the bigger part of the game (which also is 2 years later after pre searing)
